Medieval Toledo is famous as a center of Arabic learning and as a home to sizable Jewish, Muslim, and Christian communities. Yet its cathedral—one of the largest, richest, and best preserved in ...all of Europe—is little known outside Spain. In Toledo Cathedral , Tom Nickson provides the first in-depth analysis of the cathedral’s art and architecture. Focusing on the early thirteenth to the late fourteenth century, he examines over two hundred years of change and consolidation, tracing the growth of the cathedral in the city as well as the evolution of sacred places within the cathedral itself. Nickson goes on to consider this substantial monument in terms of its location in Toledo, Spain’s most cosmopolitan city in the medieval period. He also addresses the importance and symbolic significance of Toledo’s cathedral to the city and the art and architecture of the medieval Iberian Peninsula, showing how it fits in with broader narratives of change in the arts, culture, and ideology of the late medieval period in Spain and in Mediterranean Europe as a whole.

En este trabajo se propone una aproximación a la Visita General (1570-1575) ordenada por el virrey Francisco de Toledo como instancia de administración de justicia y reconfiguración territorial. Para ...ello, se procede al estudio de caso de la visita realizada al repartimiento de indios de Sipesipe (Cochabamba, Charcas) por parte de Diego Núñez Bazán. Primeramente, se examinan los litigios iniciados por los indígenas, en el marco de la visita general, para conseguir la restitución de tierras ocupadas por españoles. Luego, se avanza en un análisis de la actuación del Visitador general, en tanto agente de justicia, para dirimir estos pleitos. Finalmente, se consideran los efectos que las resoluciones de Núñez Bazán y la política toledana tuvieron sobre el territorio cochabambino.
El presente artículo pretende poner en valor los registros medievales, conservados en la sección Obra y Fábrica del Archivo Capitular de Toledo anteriores a 1503, y por tanto a la Pragmática de ...Alcalá, que definió el nuevo modo de elaboración del protocolo notarial. Los registros o libros de notas toledanos fueron catalogados en 1977, y suman un total de veintidós, la mayoría libros y algún cuaderno, comprendidos entre los años 1415 y 1503. Son estudiados en su contexto de producción, la Catedral de Toledo, proceden tanto de escribanos públicos, como de notarios eclesiásticos al servicio del cabildo y el arzobispo.
La situación de las aljamas mudéjares de Castilla entre la entronización de Enrique II y el final del reinado de Enrique III todavía necesita de estudios en profundidad. La aparición de un largo ...pleito en la catedral de Toledo, que comenzó en torno a 1390 y terminó en 1407 nos permite abordar un estudio preliminar de esta aljama para dicho periodo. En primer lugar se establecerá el marco para el despegue de la comunidad mudéjar en un Toledo diezmado por la peste y la guerra civil, y que ha perdido la mayor parte de su comunidad judía. Además de realizar un análisis prosopográfico de los miembros de la aljama mudéjar, de sus parientes conversos y de las autoridades cristianas involucradas en su día a día, a lo largo del pleito se desgranan las características básicas para el reconocimiento de la aljama por el rey y por sus conciudadanos. Se advierte a través de los testimonios que la conversión al cristianismo va ganando terreno entre los mudéjares, cuyas familias son cada vez más mixtas, y que los reyes sustentan esta política de conversión entre las élites mudejares. Finalmente, se percibe cómo el contacto continuo con el arzobispo y el cabildo desempeña un papel fundamental en el desarrollo y limitaciones de la vida diaria de la aljama.
