Using basic accessibility standards, the presence or absence of essential usability features, and site accessibility statements, this study evaluates the accessibility of the home pages of the ...federal judiciary — those of the U.S. district, Appellate and specialty courts, the Administrative Office of U.S. Courts (AO), the Federal Judicial Center (FJC), and the main homepage of PACER, the federal judiciary’s e-filing and e-records access system. Software evaluations reveal detected instances of a narrow set of accessibility issues, including scripts with no accompanying functional text, images/server-side image maps with no text equivalents/descriptors, and inaccessible forms. Manual evaluations of Web sites show a high proportion (about 67 percent) of the home pages provided skip navigation links, whereas smaller proportions provided direct or indirect links to accessibility information — about 15 percent and 12 percent, respectively, as well as controls for manipulating font size (about 12 percent). Notably, a sizeable proportion (about 45 percent) of home pages provided direct or indirect links to a “BrowseAloud” explanation and download page, apparently in lieu of information on accessibility. Finally, content analysis of existing Web site accessibility pages and policy statements show a high degree of variation, with some being exceptionally detailed and informative, and some less so.
There are few works on the reproductive behavior of species of cribellale spiders. Even more scarce are studies of the reproductive behavior of representatives of the Desidae, such as the genus ...Metaltella Mello-Leitao, 1931. In this paper, we describe for the first time the reproductive behavior of Metahelia iheringi (Keyserling, 1891), a species that is characterized by complex genitalia in both sexes. We determined frequencies and durations of the behaviors in the different phases. Thirty virgin males were exposed to virgin females and the behaviors performed by each sex, as well as their frequencies, were recorded. Three phases were identified: pre-copulatory, copulatory, and post-copulatory. The most frequent behaviors were chelicera-palp rubbing, abdomen vibration and web-stretching by the male, and body-shaking and leg-tapping on the web by the female. When the male grabbed the female, she typically fell into a state of quiescence (the female remained motionless with legs in a semi-flexed position) and she remained so even after the male ended the copulation. Mating was characterized by low aggression by the female and a low incidence of cannibalism. In the post-copulatory phase, the male performed frequent behaviors such as abdomen vibration, sperm induction, and post-copulatory cohabitation. We discuss the possible implications of these behaviors in a pre- and post-copulatory sexual selection context. We also provide information that serves as a basis for future studies to understand the mechanisms involved in these behaviors.
The central premise of this research is the belief that using the Web non-visually is cognitively burdensome and tedious due to its complex, sight-centered design. There exists a literature gap on ...visually impaired (VI) users’ perceptions and experiences regarding Web site complexity. This paper reports the findings from a survey of 50 visually impaired individuals regarding perceived complexity and usability of a popular shopping Web site and its less complex version. Results show that significant gains in usability could be achieved by reducing complexity in Web design. A theoretical model of perceived complexity and associated propositions are presented to guide future research on improving the VI user experience of Web sites and Web applications.
Nowadays, videos are an integral modality for information sharing on the World Wide Web. However, systems able to automatically understand the content and sentiment of a video are still in their ...infancy. Linguistic information transported in spoken parts of a video is known to convey valuable properties in regards to context and emotions. In this article, we explore a lexical knowledge-based extraction approach to obtain such understanding from the video transcriptions of a large-scale multimodal dataset (MuSe-CAR). To this end, we use SenticNet to extract natural language concepts and fine-tune several feature types on a subset of MuSe-CAR. With these features, we explore the content of a video as well as learning to predict emotional valence, arousal, and speaker topic classes. Our best model improves the linguistic baseline from the MuSe-Topic 2020 subchallenge by almost 3% (absolute) for the prediction of valence on the predefined challenge metric and outperforms a variety of baseline systems that require much higher computational power than the one proposed herein.
Objective: Today, the websites of the departments in universities serve as a showcase for potential students. Studies examining the web pages of universities, faculties and departments have increased ...especially in recent years. In our study, the contents of the websites of anatomy departments (AAD) in medical faculties in Turkey were examined. We aimed to create a guide for AAD and other departments in medical faculties who want to prepare a website or reorganize their existing websites. Methods: The websites of 90 anatomy departments were included. Results: While three of the four sites had a website belonging to the AAD one was only a website of either the basic medical sciences or the academic staff of the medical faculty. About half of the websites had a general introduction and 11 websites (12%) had information on body donation, the readabilities of which were of medium difficulty. Four out of 10 sites had links to the pages related to the list of faculty members and their academic information. Approximately one in three websites had various tabs. 67.7% of websites had links to the pages with academic information of faculty members. There was no photo of the lecturer in one out of three websites. Conclusion: Faculty members' e-mail addresses were available on most websites. Texts on body donation should be designed with an easier readability. As a result, we hope that our study will give an idea for AAD that do not have a website yet or want to improve their website. Keywords: Anatomy, department, website, content analysis Amac: Gunumuzde universitelerde yer alan anabilim dallarinin web siteleri potansiyel ogrenciler icin bir vitrin gorevi gormektedir. Universitelerin, fakultelerin ve anabilim dallarinin web sayfalarinin cesitli yonlerden incelendigi calismalar ozellikle son yillarda artmistir. Calismamizda da Turkiye'deki tip fakultelerinde yer alan anatomi anabilim dallarinin (AAD) web siteleri icerik yonunden incelenmis ve web site hazirlamak isteyen veya mevcut web sitelerini yeniden duzenlemek isteyen AAD ve tip fakultelerindeki diger anabilim dallari icin bir rehber ve kaynak olusturulmasi amaclanmistir. Yontem: Calismamiza 90 AAD'nin web sitesi dahil edilmistir. Ogretim uyelerinin akademik bilgilerini iceren sayfalara baglantilarin web sitelerin %67,7'sinde vardi. Yaklasik olarak her uc web sitesinden birinde ogretim uyesinin fotografi yoktu. Ogretim uyelerinin e-posta adresi cogu web sitesinde bulunabilmekteydi.
