Objective: As a way to examine how medical & dental students adhere to different dimensions of well-being within the framework of physical, emotional and spiritual well-being, Methods: A ...cross-sectional questionnaire study of Riphah International University's 300 medical & dental students from each gender was done from January to December 2010. Predictive Analysis Software (PASW) version 18 assessed the replies ranging from "no," "sometimes," "usually," and "yes/always" (numbered 0-4). Results: The study population consisted of 287 out of the 300 questionnaires, or 95.7% of the total. A total of 103 men (35.89 percent) and 184 women (64.11 percent) participated in the poll. P values of 0.0159 and 0.0240 show that illness and athletic participation have an effect on physical well-being based on gender. Mood swings and family friends had p values of 0.0059 and 0.00, respectively, in relation to emotional well-being. P values of 0.0024 and 0.0116 show that prayer and spiritual fasting have an effect on spiritual well-being. It is clear that spiritual wellbeing is distinct from emotional and bodily wellness, as shown by Tukey's simultaneous comparison t-values (d.f. = 858). Conclusion: As part of their basic curriculum, medical students should be taught stress and time management methods in order to better handle the stress and demands of practicing medicine. Colleges and institutions need to increase and enhance their research on gender bias in health and wellness.

Stress is pervasive in modern life and is an underlying risk factor for poor health outcomes in the healthcare environment for both providers and patients. Prolonged stress is proven to lead to the ...development of chronic disease, burnout and negatively impacts physical, mental and spiritual health. A cancer diagnosis is an emotionally intense and life changing experience creating additional stressors. The use of routine self-care activities can provide positive coping mechanisms, improve resilience and manage symptoms related to stress. Our Cancer Center initiated a holistic wellness program in October 2021 while recognizing "Positive Attitude Month" with the goal of providing staff and patients with tools to decrease stress and build positive coping skills. Stress reduction activities were provided including aromatherapy, nutrition, acupressure, coloring/puzzles, art projects, humor, ambient environment (nature videos/peaceful music), breathing exercises and yoga. Development of the program was nursing based by staff holding certification through the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) as well as additional certifications in holistic modalities. The purposes were as follows: * To provide stress reduction programs benefitting staff and patients * To educate staff on holistic self-care techniques * To improve individual self-care for stress reduction The interventions were as follows: * Development of programming for holistic self-care * Education with multiple self-care techniques via in-services and supplemental written materials A questionnaire to evaluate the programming was completed by staff in August 2022 to measure the effectiveness of the activities and the impact on selfcare. Measures were rated on a scale of 0-10 (none to high importance) and averages were calculated. * 9.6/10 reported an improved awareness/interest in holistic wellness and self-care * Pre and post education scores demonstrated the average improvement of self-care was 3 points. For those with a pre-score of 0-5, the improvement average was 5.1 versus an average of 1.2 for those with a pre rating of 6-10. This indicates that those with lower initial self-care felt a greater response to the wellness program. * 9.7/10 report an improvement in overall effectiveness in stress reduction * 77% shared a stress reducing technique(s) with family/friends Integrating wellness through self-care education and interventions provides an overall reduction in stress which is additionally shared with others (family/patients) in the learner's sphere of contact. Stress reduction education empowers oncology healthcare workers to invest in their own well-being which improves quality of life and the ability to care for and teach others.
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to conceptually examine the phenomenon of wellness tourism under a holistic and systemic lens, focusing on the offer system and the main components necessary for ...the staging of wellness experiences. This approach to holistic wellbeing within the tourism sector has led to a broadening of the type of services and experiences that make up the value propositions that can positively contribute to people’s wellbeing.
Design/methodology/approach
This study identifies and defines the components of wellness tourism (including sectors not traditionally associated with it) through a review and analysis of the extant literature on “wellness tourism” and “wellbeing tourism” of the past two decades; the components were classified through an open coding process.
Findings
Wellness tourism, as a broad multidimensional concept, is composed by ten different components of the offer system: hot springs, spas, medical tourism, care of the body and mind, enogastronomy, sports, nature and environment, culture, spirituality and events. Each of these categories may represent a single touristic offer targeted to specific market segments, but they may also be one of several components within an integrated mix of tourism products proposed.
Originality/value
A holistic view of wellness tourism has implications for strategic marketing processes. Destination Management Organizations and company managers should segment their demand according to more innovative criteria than what has traditionally been adopted for wellness in terms of health care and medical procedures. Value propositions for tourists should be wellness-driven to satisfy the growing demand for wellness/well-being and should involve the participation of all the various actors and producers within the wellness tourism offer system at wellness destinations.
Physician wellness is important to health care systems and quality patient care. There has been limited research clarifying the physician wellness construct. We aimed to develop a ...stakeholder-informed model of pediatrician wellness.
We performed a group concept mapping (GCM) study to create a model of pediatrician wellness. We followed the four main steps of GCM and recruited pediatricians at multiple sites and on social media. During brainstorming, pediatricians individually responded to a prompt to generate ideas describing the concept of pediatrician wellness. Second, pediatricians sorted the list of brainstormed ideas into conceptually similar groups and rated them on importance. Sorted data were analyzed to create maps showing each idea as a point, with lines around groups of points to create clusters of wellness. Mean importance scores for each cluster were calculated and compared using pattern match.
Pediatricians in this study identified eight clusters of wellness: 1) Experiencing belonging and support at work, 2) Alignment in my purpose, my work, and my legacy, 3) Feelings of confidence and fulfillment at work, 4) Skills and mindset for emotional well-being, 5) Harmony in personal, professional, and community life, 6) Time and resources to support holistic sense of self, 7) Work boundaries and flexibility, and 8) Organizational culture of inclusion and trust. There were no significant differences in mean cluster rating score; the highest rated cluster was Harmony in personal, professional and community life (3.62).
Pediatricians identified eight domains of wellness, spanning professional and personal life, work, and individual factors.
Modern wellness is a concept that has been discussed in the literature since the 1960's. To better understand wellness complexities in a school setting, a concept analysis was conducted using a ...modified version of Walker and Avant's method incorporating the nursing paradigm in the implications. A literature review was conducted and except for background information, the publication dates were limited to 2017–2022. Key search terms included “wellness,” “school wellness,” “wellness concept.” Additional literature reviews were conducted based on data related to the definitions, attributes, antecedents, and consequences of wellness that were collected from the reviewed studies. Defining attributes of wellness included healthy habits, conscientiousness, and optimum state of health. The antecedents, consequences, and empirical referents of wellness were identified with examples from the literature and case exemplars. Wellness is a dynamic process that has unique implications for school health and school nurses. This concept analysis lays the foundation for future research incorporating nursing domains.
The purpose of this case study was to demonstrate the use of patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) to evaluate the effectiveness of therapy success and outcomes in a patient with primary ...immunodeficiency.
A 74-year-old Caucasian woman receives IVIg for the treatment of selective deficiency of immunoglobulin G IgG subclasses, ICD-10 D80.3. Past medical history includes chronic obstructive lung disease and hypothyroidism. After 4 months of receiving IVIg therapy in the home, the patient was transitioned to another IVIg product, ASCENIV, for the continued treatment of her condition. A multidisciplinary team conducted a retrospective review of her medical records from the start of care to current status. This included customized clinical assessments specific to primary immunodeficiency, wellness, and fatigue that were performed by the specialty infusion pharmacy and reported through the proprietary clinical outcomes program SoleMetrics®. The review also included progress notes, nursing assessments, and physician office visit notes.Table 1Soleo Health Wellness Scale.Score12345Energy LevelLots of energy and can do the things I want to doCan do most things, may need to rest at timesNormal level of energyFeel tired most of the time, spend a lot of time sitting and not engaging in activitiesStaying in bed most of the day due to fatigue, tired all dayMoodGood mood most of the timeFeel even temperedFeel blah some of the time, someimes feel crankyDepressed all of the time, irritable and annoyed with othersSleep PatternsGreat restful sleepGood sleepNo real problemsHave problems falling asleep or staying asleepInsomniaStress LevelVery relaxed, feel at peaceRelaxedNormal stress level and feeling calmSomewhat stressedVery stressedOverall Health and WellnessFeel greatFeel goodFeel OkayFeel badFeel bad all the time
The patient assessment and completion of select PROMs were performed prior to each dispense of the medication or at the time of a home infusion nursing visit. Wellness was assessed using the Soleo Health Wellness scale and an immunology disease-specific assessment.
Wellness was based on five questions related to overall wellness, mood, energy, sleep patterns, and stress. Scores were reported on a 1–5 scale, with one being the best. Other factors used were a subjective statement by the patient, “How are you feeling today,” emergency department and hospitalization records, reported infections, and medication changes. While on the previous IVIg regimen, the patient reported an average wellness score of 16.6 compared to an average of 13 while on ASCENIV. Additionally, while on ASCENIV the patient reported no infections, no emergency or hospital visits, and improvement in the ability to exercise and participate in family and social activities. ASCENIV is an Ig product manufactured to have high concentration of neutralizing antibodies to nine common respiratory viral infections, including respiratory syncytial virus. These characteristics may contribute to improved outcomes.Table 2Patient Wellness Scores. How would you describe your feeling of health and wellness? How would you describe your energy level and ability to participate in activities? How would you describe your mood? How would you describe your sleep patterns? How would you describe your stress level?Total score02/10/2022342341603/09/2022342351704/05/2022342451804/30/2022342441706/02/20223422415Change to ASCENIV06/30/2022322331307/08/2022322331308/06/2022322331309/24/2022322331310/01/2022322331311/01/20223223313
