The article examines selected poems that deal with the inter-species relations ina multi-species world, from the collections of poems Tisoč osemdeset stopinj (Thousand Eighty Degrees) by Alenka ...Jovanovski and roko razje (Eats Away the Hand)byVesna Liponik. Through the analysis and interpretation, we investigate howtheir poetics work when it collides with the demonization of the other and theovert or covert social and environmental speciesism. In doing so, we discuss thesymbolic and active power of poetry, the poets’ critique of the binary divide between man and other beings, and their emphasis on the inherent value of animaland, in awider context, their political-economic critique of global capitalism andlinguistic, symbolic, material human violence against other species and nature.
This book addresses the challenging and exciting issues of the implementation of the European Union’s grand strategies, with a particular interest in the implementation of the current Agenda 2030 and ...its Sustainable Development Goals. It provides insight into the impact of this strategic process on some of the current global issues relevant to the European Union, such as the European and global energy market, food supplies, industrial components etc. Some of the challenges have such a strong short-term impact, that already accepted strategic priorities and decisions are being questioned and re-examined. This is a particularly exciting subject, both as a research topic and as a policy issue.
This essay explores Jacques Lacan’s theory of desire as functioning according to the logic of tragedy and compares it with Alenka Zupančič’s concept of love as comedy, demonstrating however that the ...latter remains too caught up in the Lacanian worldview to truly capture the active side of love. The essay argues that Zupančič’s interpretation of Lacan can be reinterpreted again through the lenses of “messianic psychoanalysis” – psychoanalysis “slightly adjusted” – standing not on the side of the tragic acceptance of fate, but of the promise of “more life.” Drawing from the reflections of Agata Bielik-Robson, Eric Santner and Jonathan Lear, this essay intends to demonstrate that Zupančič’s comedy of love can be reconciled with the more relational notion of love as a psychoanalytical counterpart of messianic Exodus. An example of such a liberating combination of eros and wit can be found in Freud’s interpretation of Wilhelm Jensen’s Gradiva.

Alenka Zupančič’ work on Immanuel Kant (Ethics of the Real, 2000) marks her entrance onto the international philosophical scene and places her among the three giants of contemporary Slovenien ...philosophy. In this article, Zupančič’ investigation of Kantian ethics is presented with a particular focus on the so called ‘logic of the act’, which Zupančič claims has been forgotten or repressed in recent Kant scholarship. By reading Kant with Lacan and showing how any act worthy of the name has a characteristic similar to Lacan’s concept of the drive, Zupančič brings forward a new, much more radical and a bit scary Kant – one that also represents a way of overcoming the moral nihilism of contemporary society.
The article presents the theory of comedy which has been developed by Alenka Zupančič’ in her book The Odd One In from 2008. The first part of the article shows how Zupančič’ approach to comedy is ...positioned within the field of classical philosophical theories on comedy and laughter; the second part seeks to clarify the two main sources of inspiration behind Zupančič’ theory: Hegel and Lacan. While the Hegelian theory provides an account of how comedy manages to present a conflict or short circuit in a universal order, the Lacanian theory provides a theory of ‘the impossible object’, also known as the petit objet a, which is seen to emerge in the place of conflict described by Hegel. The article thus argues that the fruitful combination of Hegel and Lacan is exactly what gives Zupančič’ theory of comedyits unique strength and significance.

Razločno ...so vidna vesla, krma, kljun in oven (rostrum). Geme z upodobitvami ladje so redke.
Christine Strandmose Toft: “When the Military Writes War Stories. A Reading of David Abrams’ Fobbit”This article examines David Abram’s novel Fobbit (2012), a satirical comedy about Chance Gooding ...who works as a public affairs officer in the Army. First part of the article concerns the representation of the military’s attempt to represent war and asks why it is of paramount importance to the military to control the public’s view of the Iraq War. The second part considers the novel as meta-representation and discusses the kind of laughter it produces and its critical potential.
The history of the Slovenian School is more diverse, and longer, than one might expect. To trace the origins of what is today often referred to as the Slovenian School, one has to go back to 1971, ...when Rastko Močnik and Slavoj Žižek started taking up contemporary French structuralism to find new approaches to understanding the events in Europe and elsewhere, from Che Guevara to the Prague Spring. This article tracks down the major historical points in the development of the school, as well as some of its major philosophical assumptions, and argues that it has never really established itself as one. And that this continues to be one of its major virtues.
