The characteristics of a building style and its character are shaped by some of its architectural elements. One of these architectural styles is an Art Deco-style building that has its own character. ...This style first appeared in 1925 and developed until 1940. This European architectural style was adopted in various American buildings due to their condition in the time of the industrial revolution. The modern architectural movement that developed at that time also influenced the art deco style and gave it a modern touch. The Art Deco style in graphic design restores again decorativism but not necessarily in the form of ornaments. Decorative impressions can be achieved through the play of elements geometric, typographic blocks, textures and shades of color. Art Deco style has characteristics that are very distinctive and easily distinguished from other architectural styles. Art deco still exists in the spirit of medan city development as place of research evidenced by the many old buildings that are repurposed as well as new buildings that take the characteristics of Art Deco. One of them is the use of tower elements or one part of the building that rises slightly upwards and gives a magnificent impression.

The article deals with the architectural environment of Alexandria that existed during the period of European presence in Egypt. The historical prerequisites that led to the cultural dialog between ...the West and the East in the architectural space of the city are outlined. The main elements of the planning structure and the built environments of the main streets and squares are analyzed. The prevailing styles are identified on the example of some significant works (mansions, tenement houses, public buildings, mosques). Support is provided for the claim that Alexandria was included in the general cultural context of the Mediterranean and maintained close ties with the Arabic artistic traditions. Alexandria’s architecture of the first half of the 20th century is positioned as a significant layer of the country's cultural heritage.

In a previous paper (Justification for ’Scrapping the Sky’, Ybl Journal of Built Environment, Vol. 7/1,) I set an overall framework for reviewing the elusive topic from its history to the ...state-of-theart, with a particular focus on urban design perspectives. While conducting the research, the subject offered many interesting (sometimes even surprising) findings. One of them is the so-called Hungarian connection: two epic protagonists who played a significant role in shaping the early skyline of Manhattan (Emery Roth and his sons) and Shanghai (Laszlo Hudec), respectively. Although their heritage is still striking on the ground, they seem to be not well known, particularly Roth, even among professional architects. Hence the rationale and the title of this paper.
The house and the garden of Maurice Ravel at Montfort-l’Amaury (Yvelines) bear witness to the personality of the composer who lived there. More generally, they represent a place of memory associated with French music and French arts at the beginning of the twentieth century. For specialists, they constitute a real exhibition about the artist. The house and its garden are filled with souvenirs, dreams and music that make them all the more interesting, a remarkable universe which subjugates all the visitors. The design of the garden, with its water features, its herbaceous borders and its Japanese-style atmosphere, refers to numerous works by the composer. It is a good example of a garden which was an inspiration for a composer’s works, but also of a garden inspired by music. This article offers new information about the garden’s design, rarely considered up to now, and can attribute this design to Lucien Paré, a landscape architect and horticulturalist trained at the Versailles landscape school. His teaching has recently been the object if renewed study. The house has been awarded the label ‘Maison des Illustres’ and, with the garden, was given statutory protection in 2022.
