Biodiversitas 19: 421-430. The establishment of Village Forest status gives local people assurance to manage the forest independently, but also limits its utilization. Communities are given freedom in the utilization of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) and environmental services, but they are prohibited to utilize timber forest products that can disturb and destroy the life of flora and fauna in it. The Uma Longh community utilize NTFPs to meet the needs for food, medicines, and craft material. The objective of this study was to know the prospect of the utilization of NTFPs from Setulang Village Forest. Data were gathered by interview, FGD, documentation, observation and field sampling in transects. The analysis method used in this research was CLAPS (Arquiza 2008; Bakkegaard et al. 2016). This research concluded that the NTFPs in Uma Longh community had good prospect so that the commodities included in the NTFPs category could be managed by the local community independently and sustainably, including Calamus sp. and Gigantochloa sp. In order for NTFPs to be available sustainably, the existence of village forest should be maintained, and this requires (i) the existence of government regulatory support that ensures its sustainability, (ii) the community support to comply with agreements and rules made, (iii) the availability of responsible management institutions, and (iv) the availability of adequate funding sources.
Closed-loop systems have been designed to assist anesthetists in controlling anesthetic drugs and also maintaining the stability of various physiological variables in the normal range. In the present ...study, we describe and clinically evaluated a novel closed-loop automated blood pressure control system (CLAPS) in patients undergoing cardiac surgery under cardiopulmonary bypass. Forty ASA II–IV adult patients undergoing elective cardiac surgery were randomly allocated to receive adrenaline, noradrenaline, phenylephrine and nitroglycerine (NTG) adjusted either through CLAPS (CLAPS group) or manually (Manual group). The desired target mean arterial blood pressure (MAP) for each patient in both groups was set by the attending anesthesiologist. The hemodynamic performance was assessed based on the percentage duration of time the MAP remained within 20% of the set target. Automated controller performances were compared using performance error criteria of Varvel (MDPE, MDAPE, Wobble) and Global Score. MAP was maintained a significantly longer proportion of time within 20% of the target in the CLAPS group (79.4% vs. 65.5% p < 0.001, 't' test) as compared to the manual group. Median absolute performance error, wobble, and Global score was significantly lower in the CLAPS group. Hemodynamic stability was achieved with a significantly lower dose of Phenyepherine in the CLAPS group (1870 μg vs. 5400 μg, p < 0.05, 't' test). The dose of NTG was significantly higher in the CLAPS group (3070 μg vs. 1600 μg, p-value < 0.05, 't' test). The cardiac index and left ventricular end-diastolic area were comparable between the groups. Automated infusion of vasoactive drugs using CLAPS is feasible and also better than manual control for controlling hemodynamics during cardiac surgery.

Samples from three medieval rock avalanches from the French (Le Claps, Mont Granier) and Austrian Alps (Dobratsch) and a man-made structure, i.e. the Stephansdom in Vienna, have been analysed for ...in-situ produced 36Cl by accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS). All four sampling sites of independently known exposure duration turned out to be not appropriate as calibration sites for the determination of the 36Cl-production rate from Ca. Indeed, the determination of short exposure ages for dating rock avalanches and man-made structures by 36Cl is hindered dramatically by inheritance, especially for samples characterized by high natCl-concentrations. Generally, there are hints that the theoretical calculation of 36Cl-production from epithermal and thermal neutron-capture on 35Cl is highly underestimated in all existing models, thus, asking for particular precaution if working on high-Cl samples for any project. Hence, this work evidences that potential high inheritance, even for samples reasonably shielded before exhumation, has to be considered especially when dealing with recently exposed surfaces such as glacially polished rocks, alluvial terraces, fault scarps etc.

A software feedback control system for the constant‐current‐mode operation of the light‐addressable potentiometric sensor (LAPS) was developed. The constant‐current‐mode LAPS (CLAPS) is suitable for ...online monitoring and recording of changes in the pH value or the ion concentration. An enzyme LAPS was fabricated by adsorptive immobilization of penicillinase on the pH‐sensitive layer of Ta2O5. This sensor was operated in the constant‐current‐mode and the detection limit for penicillin G was found to be at least as low as 100 µM.

Single-cell technologies have become critical tools to understand and characterize the complex dynamics that govern biological systems, from embryonic development to cancer heterogeneity. In this ...context, identification and capture of live individual cells in heterogenous ensembles typically rely on genetic manipulations that encode fluorescent probes. However, a precise understanding of how several molecular components interact to yield the phenotype of interest is a prerequisite to distinguishing and isolating such target cells based on fluorescence alone. Indeed, cellular phenotypes associated with migration, shape, location, or intracellular protein distribution play critical and well-understood roles in cancer biology, but the technologies to tag and isolate cells based on information obtained from imaging are not readily available.Cell labeling via photobleaching (CLaP) and single-cell magneto-optical capture (scMOCa) represent convenient and cost-effective systems for labeling, capturing, and expanding single cells from a heterogenous population, without altering cellular physiology and therefore enabling not only transcriptomic profiling but also biological characterization of target cells. Both techniques allow capturing cells after observation and permit researchers to choose target cells based on information obtained from images. The implementation of these technologies only needs the lasers of a confocal microscope and low-cost, commercially available chemical reagents. Here, we describe a detailed protocol to set up and perform CLaP and scMOCa and highlight critical points for optimal performance.
A flapping-wing micro air vehicle (FW-MAV) operating with aerodynamically optimal wing configuration and kinematics may save energy and thus prolong flight time. In this work, we use a ...computational-fluid-dynamic method to investigate the effects of wing kinematics, corrugation structures, and clap-and-fling on the aerodynamic efficiency of our hovering two-winged FW-MAV (KUBeetle). From the measured reference wing kinematics, we generated several different wing kinematics, considering the effect of spanwise twist and chordwise camber that produce high lift-to-drag ratio (L/D). Among the investigated cases, the modified wing kinematics version 3, which includes both camber and twist with an average angle of attack of about 37°, was selected, because of its ∼24% improvement of L/D, while maintaining similar lift to the measured reference wing kinematics. The results also showed that the camber plays a role in the improvement of both lift and L/D, which improvements are approximately (16.7 and 10.6)%, respectively. We then used wing kinematics version 3 to investigate the effects of various leading-edge corrugation structures. Based on the results of lift and L/D, we proposed a wing with distributed wing corrugations along the wingspan, which slightly augments the L/D by 2%. In addition, to see how the clap-and-fling behavior contributes to the aerodynamic efficiency, its effects on lift and drag generation were examined. We found that the clap-and-fling enhanced lift by 5%, but increased drag by 9%, resulting in a 4% reduction of the L/D for both the measured and the modified wing kinematics. Thus, the lift-augmented clap-and-fling is inefficient for FW-MAVs. Finally, the study confirmed that the wing with distributed wing corrugations using wing kinematics version 3 without clap-and-fling presented at the stroke reversals is preferable for the high aerodynamic efficiency of the KUBeetle robot, with 31% improvement in L/D.
Long-term product improvement requires detailed analysis that includes information from the entire product life cycle. Life cycle assessment according to the standards ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 ...provides information on the environmental impact of products throughout their life cycle. The aim of the study is to analyze the environmental impact of a multicomponent plastic product in two variants and the associated customized tools using life cycle assessment. The subject of this analysis is the previous and the improved design of a multicomponent plastic cap for 19 l water bottles and the associated custom-manufactured tools. The main improvements of the custom-made tools are in the larger number of cores, and the new cap design was improved with fewer components and mass. The results show that the production and packaging of the improved multicomponent plastic cap has more than two times lower environmental impacts in the categories of global warming potential, freshwater eutrophication, terrestrial acidification ozone formation, human health and non reneweable, fossil. The environmental impact of custom injection moulding tools is strongly influenced by the capacity of the injection moulding machine and the number of cores or number of products that can be produced in a batch. In addition, the results of the improved 19 l multicomponent plastic cap showed a lower environmental impact compared to previous studie of the 5 l plastic cap.
