Language not only objectively expresses the thought of a proposition but also indicates the speaker’s emotion, attitude, and viewpoints toward a proposition, which is called subjectivity in the ...study. Subjectivity is one of the main topics in philosophy. However, the phenomenon of subjectivity is mainly discussed at the word, construction, or syntactic level from the perspective of linguistics. To better the characteristics of speakers as subjects in social practice activities and cognitive activities, an analytical framework of subjectivity in discourse from the perspective of philosophy was constructed to investigate subjectivity at the discourse level. Three aspects, that is, experience, mental and communicative models, were explored. The results show that (1) the constructed analytical framework clearly shows the social characteristics of subjectivity in discourse; (2) the experience model is divided into the speaker’s social and cultural experience; (3) the mental model is construed as the speaker’s mental cognition, reflected by the speaker’s mental stance and emotion; (4) the communicative model is represented by the speaker’s communicative intention and communicative practice, including appeal, command and announcement. The study provides an analytical framework to dig up the subjective nature of language and the relationship among speakers, society and discourse. This study also enriches the research on subjectivity and discourse analysis.
The article describes an actively-developing phenomenon of the modern literary process as parish prose. On the material of stories by priest Yaroslav Shipov the author analyses the content and ...literary characteristics that are specific to this socio-communicative model phenomenon, i.e. the “pastor-pastor” model. The study reveals that the writer's works bring to the forefront a collegial level of interaction among the pastors in the context of the daily life of the church community. It proves the idea that the functions of this model are associated with an objective depiction of characteristics of life in a modern rural parish and the Orthodox clergy.
In 2007, significant reforms were made to the law of sexual assault in New South Wales, Australia. These reforms introduced communicative ideals into the physical and mental element of the offence of ...sexual assault. Ten years later, the first appellate decisions directly on these aspects of the reforms were handed down. These decisions are part of a suite of four cases emerging from the prosecution of a young man, Luke Lazarus, for the sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman in Sydney. This article analyses the judgments in these cases. It aims to provide insights into judicial thinking on key communicative aspects of sexual assault law in New South Wales, particularly the twin concepts of autonomy and responsibility that are embedded in the communicative model of consent. It argues that while there are encouraging signs of progress in judicial interpretation of women's sexual autonomy, there is reason to be concerned that law reform in this area may have had little impact when it comes to placing an expectation upon men to take responsibility for sexual communication.
The article presents short comparative theoretical research into lexical changes in modern English carried out by British linguists. The concept of its monolithic entity and language purism conflict ...the views on language as a dynamically developing structure. Information technologies, globalization, cultural evolution, military and political events of global concern bring about lexical-semantic changes in the English language word stock and vocabulary update which is substantiated by an array of sentences derived from the Guardian.
In this paper, the informative treatment for the conflict originated by the publication of Mahoma’s cartoons is analyzed using two newspaper texts as sample: an opinion article from El País (Spain) ...and an informative piece from Panorama (Venezuela). Based on the linguistic- communicative model from Molero (1985-2003), Cabeza (1989-2006) and Franco (2000-2004), the analysis starts from the discourse level up to the conceptualization to contrast both journalistic genres and their author’s discursive strategies in the construction of the communicative situation. Subsequently, the processes developed to represent the conflict linguistically are revised, from the referential to the discursive level, in order to introduce production models that can contribute to mediation through a conscious and rational use of language. It was concluded that the journalistic language analyzed contributed to the polarization of readers instead of facilitating their consensus, which is why we encourage further research aimed to delineate textual production models that are suitable for managing conflicts.
