As the perception on abortion changes into a social problem, it is high time to also change the notion of criminalizing abortion. This necessitates the creation of societal structures that will ...respond to it. This study aimed to review the abortion counseling system that responds to the pregnancy and childbirth crisis. We conducted a review of the literatures and documentations made available through search engines, including cases overseas. In addition, we analyzed the currently operating pregnancy and childbirth-related service systems and reviewed the issues being discussed in Korea regarding artificial abortion. Based on these analyses, we suggest steps that can be taken for the revision of the law as Constitutional Discordance determining on abortion clause of criminal law. In addition, we propose a plan to establish an appropriate abortion counseling system that will respond to the domestic pregnancy and childbirth crisis.
Aim: To elucidate community residents’ needs for, the significance of, and the role of public health nurse in, genetics counseling services from the perspective of clinical geneticists.Methods: Three ...clinical geneticists who have been involved in genetic counseling services were interviewed. Study participants were recruited through snowball sampling, and consent for participating in this study was obtained from all participants. Interview data were analyzed using a qualitative, descriptive method.Results: The analysis indicated the following eight needs of community residents for genetic counseling services: needs changed to arise with developments in genetic and genomic medicine, changes in opportunities for genetic counseling accompanying developments in the systems of genetic and genomic medicine, anxiousness that are unlikely to change regardless of developments in the discipline, decrease in the number of genetic counseling, the familiar environment for community residents, needs for asking simple questions and discussing compelling gene-related issues, for private discussion of gene-related concerns, and discussing anonymously. The following aspects were also identified as explaining the significance of the services themselves: They provide opportunities for genetic counseling offering a wider range of content areas than that offered by medical organizations, for obtaining second opinion consultations, for determining whether a service user should visit a medical organization, for effectively linking consultation services to treatment at a medical organization, they play significant role as forming part of local health services, and they also provide opportunities for clinical geneticists to gain experience. Moreover, seven categories were extracted for the role of, and issues with, public health nurses who are responsible for identifying the potential needs of community residents and referring them to genetics counseling services.Discussion: Community residents’ needs for genetic and genomic medicine vary. Certain needs change in accordance with developments in the medical discipline, whereas others remain relatively unchanged. Genetics counseling services are deeply embedded in the local community. Their importance in the community is that they address community residents’ need to ask simple questions and discuss concerns in a familiar environment, and that they determine whether a service user should visit a medical organization. Findings suggested that local nurses (including public health nurses) play an important role in identifying potential needs of community residents.
Introducción: la epidemia producida por el VIH constituye un problema de salud para toda la humanidad. En Cuba, se destaca LíneAyuda en la lucha por la prevención, un servicio de consejería ...telefónica del Centro Nacional de Prevención de ITS/VIH/SIDA. Objetivo: llegar a los grupos poblacionales afectados por la epidemia de VIH/SIDA, entre los que se encuentran los hombres que tienen sexo con otros hombres en edades entre 16 y 35 años. Métodos: se realizó un estudio de caracterización de los clientes del servicio durante el período 1998-2000. Resultados: Se recibieron en el servicio 25 896 llamadas, con una media mensual de 925. Los clientes fundamentales fueron personas heterosexuales, de los 2 sexos, que manifestaban preocupación por la epidemia y conductas de riesgo como no usar condón, tener una ITS y relaciones sexuales con persona con ITS, con edades entre 16 y 35 años y nivel escolar medio superior y universitario. Llaman por lo general una sola vez y sobre todo desde Ciudad de La Habana. Los hombres trataron más los temas sobre riesgo de prácticas sexuales, lesiones genitales, disfunción sexual, VIH/SIDA y condón; mientras que las mujeres abordaron más lo relacionado con la pareja, la familia, la maternidad y paternidad y otras ITS. Conclusiones: el trabajo muestra que el servicio llega a los grupos que se propone y es necesario redefinir estrategias para atraer más a los hombres que tienen sexo con otros hombres y realizar acciones diferenciadas por sexo.
This article considers the analysis the continuous increase of the counseling service demand by e-mail developed at the Center for Research in Psychology and Informatics. Starting from a brief ...retrospective of the services, using the users' profile data and the messages' main issues in the years 2003 and 2004, this text presents new considerations about a very prospective research area in Psychology, including current elements to the hypotheses that were previously formulated. The recent transformations and the technological updates require constant analysis about the counseling service, which are necessary to promote quality and ethics in the professional activity mediated by computer.
Este artigo se propõe a analisar o aumento crescente da demanda do serviço de orientação psicológica via e-mail, desenvolvido pelo Núcleo de Pesquisa de Psicologia e Informática da Clínica Psicológica Ana Maria Poppovic, da Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo. Partindo de uma breve retrospectiva dos serviços do núcleo, do perfil dos usuários, dos tipos de pedidos e dos temas centrais das mensagens nos anos 2003 e 2004, este texto apresenta novas reflexões sobre uma área de pesquisa muito proeminente dentro da Psicologia, incluindo elementos atuais às hipóteses anteriormente formuladas. As recentes transformações e atualizações tecnológicas pedem constantes análises, que são necessárias à promoção de qualidade e ética no exercício da profissão mediado pelo computador.
