The essay intends to look at the notion of error with particular reference to literary translation from English into Italian. It specifically focuses on texts uncomfortably poised between spoken and ...written language, coming from postcolonial literature written in contact languages (Nigerian Pidgin English and rotten English), and American literature written in dialects and vernaculars. It will try to shed light on how the norm/usage dichotomy can be creatively explored and redefined by both the writer and the translator.
This book is a descriptive account of English as it is used in India. Indian English is a second language to most of its speakers. In its 400-year history it has acquired its own character, yet still ...looks to native varieties of English for norms. The complex nature of Indian English, which is not really a monolithic entity, is discussed in this book. The book also makes a distinction between what are considered to be standard and non-standard varieties, and provides an overview of the salient features. Indian English includes:
*A discussion of the sociolinguistic and cultural factors
*The history of the establishment of English in India, bringing it up to modern times
*A description of the linguistic aspects: phonetics and phonology, lexical, discourse and morphosyntactic features
*Samples of written English from a range of contexts
*Samples of speech
*An annotated bibliography divided according to topic.

The Languages of Urban Africa consists of a series of case studies that address four main themes. The first is the history of African urban languages. The second set focus on theoretical issues in ...the study of African urban languages, exploring the outcomes of intense multilingualism and also the ways in which urban dwellers form their speech communities. The volume then moves on to explore the relationship between language and identity in the urban setting. The final two case studies in the volume address the evolution of urban languages in Africa. This rich set of chapters examine languages and speech communities in ten geographically diverse African urban centres, covering almost all regions of the continent. Half involve Francophone cities, the other half, Anglophone. This exciting volume shows us what the study of urban African languages can tell us about language and about African societies in general.  It is essential reading for upper level undergraduates, postgraduates and researchers in sociolinguistics, especially those interested in the language of Africa.
Based on dialect data of the Linguistic atlas of Dolomitic Ladinian and neighbouring dialects, 2nd part this survey tries to offer a description as complete as possible of the verbal morphology of ...the north-eastern Lombard dialects, including aspects of phonetics and morphosyntax and, in this way, to find explanations for a number of phenomena which have not been considered yet. The qualitative description of the verbal morphology of this dialect area with its rich variation is combined with quantitative results of dialectometry, which specify and complete the traditional division of the dialect area research and provide a new prospect of the dialects analysed within their geographic embedding.
