Although Digital Storytelling (DS) has been popular in education since the 1990s, there is a lack of systematic review to inform how it has been applied and what has been achieved in the field. Most ...publications are either conceptual discussions or reports of implementations. This paper presents a systematic review of 57 studies on educational DS (EDS). Our analysis identified a continuous interest within the USA, where EDS originated, and increasing adoption in Asian and European countries, with usage across primary, secondary, and higher education levels. It was used as stand-alone pedagogy or in combination with other pedagogies, usually in the humanities and social science contexts. The review categorizes five orientations (appropriative, agentive, reflective, reconstructive, and reflexive) and eight types of outcomes (affective, cognitive, conceptual, academic, technological, linguistic, ontological, and social). Based on this synthesis, we discuss three issues: a linguistic conundrum, a rosy picture of positive outcomes, and a further expansion of the optimal reconstructive orientation. Possible reasons for these issues are explored, and directions for future studies are suggested.

Many students, particularly those who are studying English as a foreign language (EFL), face a considerable difficulty in achieving a high level of speaking proficiency. The objective of this study ...is to evaluate the impact of digital storytelling on improving English speaking proficiency.This study utilised a pre-test-posttest group design. The study's demographic and sample comprise 80 students from Class XI IPA in the academic year 2023/2024. The researcher utilised the snowball sampling approach to determine the necessary sample size. Before administering the before and post tests, the researcher evaluated the validity and reliability of the instrument using SPSS. This was accomplished by analysing the scores on the corrected item total correlation, which quantifies the relationship between item scores and the overall item score. The pupils were assigned the labels Group A (experimental) and Group B (control). Afterwards, pupils participate in a Pretest to determine any differences among them. The researcher offered digital storytelling to both groups, but only the experimental group utilised it, while the control group did not. The experimental group will be subjected to a treatment that involves the utilisation of digital storytelling. The T test was utilised as the technique for data analysis. The results showed that the calculated T value was 7.313, and the significance value was below 0.05. Thus, it can be inferred that the use of digital storytelling allows students to improve their English speaking skills. This research is important because it can improve the process of acquiring the English language, namely by emphasising the importance of teachers in teaching digital storytelling during English language learning.
This study presents reflections from an online Digital Storytelling Workshop conducted with mathematics teachers. In the study, which was designed as a qualitative case study, the participants ...comprised four people studying for a master’s degree at a state university in Turkey and who also worked as mathematics teachers in secondary schools. Data were collected through online lesson recordings, a semi-structured interview form, participants’ reflective diaries, and digital stories prepared during the process. Content analysis was used in the analysis of the data. According to the results of the research, it was determined that the participants had the most difficulty in creating a dramatic question and adding multimedia. It was seen that they paid more attention to the dramatic question, sound, and music elements while evaluating sample digital stories. They mentioned time-saving in terms of the advantages of holding the workshop online, and the fact that interaction was limited regarding the disadvantages. They stated that the workshop mostly benefited them in terms of technology. They reported that due to the disruptions experienced in online education, they used the prepared digital stories limitedly in their own classrooms, and stated they could not receive sufficient feedback. They also stated that in the event that they could use digital stories in mathematics classes, they would benefit students in various ways. The digital stories prepared at the end of the workshop were examined, and it was seen that there was an improvement in all participants
This study provides a comprehensive overview of the research in digital storytelling and identifies the key themes and trends in this area. Digital storytelling is an emerging field that has gained ...significant attention in recent years. In this study, we conducted a bibliometric analysis of the digital storytelling literature to examine this field's growth and development. The data collected from the Web of Science database was analyzed quantitatively, revealing a significant growth in digital storytelling as a field in recent years. The analysis revealed that the number of publications in this area has noticeably increased. The field's most productive authors, journals, and institutions were identified, and the key themes, trends, and challenges in digital storytelling research were identified. The analysis revealed that the most frequent keywords in the literature were "technology," "literacy," "education," language," "students," "learning-motivation," "pedagogy," "English," and "stories." The key themes that emerged from the literature were the use of digital storytelling in education, the role of technology in digital storytelling, and the use of digital storytelling for social change. The co-occurrence of keywords revealed strong connections between the themes of education, learning, and technology in digital storytelling research. The analysis also revealed that the field of digital storytelling had grown rapidly in recent years, with a significant increase in the number of publications. The number of publications in digital storytelling has increased exponentially in the last decade, and this trend is expected to continue. The analysis also revealed that the majority of publications in digital storytelling are in the subfields of education and English. The analysis revealed that the field of digital storytelling is still in its early stages, and there is a need for more research in this area.
Mathematics is one of the subjects that many students avoid in class. The notion that mathematics is difficult and uninteresting is often embedded in students' minds so that it affects motivation in ...learning. Motivation can affect achievement in learning. The digital era has made students begin to lead learning through technology. It is hoped that the existence of technology can make changes in motivation in students. This study aims to determine whether digital story telling has effectiveness in increasing student motivation, especially in learning mathematics. The research subjects were five fifth grade students of a public elementary school at SD X. The subjects were around 9-10 years old. The study used the one group pre-post test experimental technique. The results of this study obtained the results of the Wilcoxon normality test and obtained a value of 0.038 <0.05. There is a significant change in students' learning motivation after being given the treatment is digital story telling. This research can be used as study material for teachers in increasing student motivation in class, especially mathematics.

Narrative as one of English text genres functions to entertain readers. Some students do not achieve the purpose of narrative when they make it. It may happen because they do not understand the main ...purpose of narrative and lack of information on what should be and not should be put in the text. To overcome the problem, narrative was taught in different way by utilizing the digital form, and it is known as digital storytelling. Digital storytelling is expected to help students write narrative better so they can achieve the main purpose of the text. The main concern of this research is to find out the effect of digital storytelling in teaching narrative. It applied case study method with qualitative approach in the analysis. The data was gathered from 45 students who worked as the subject of the research. The result showed that 40 students (88,89%) felt digital storytelling help them to understand narrative better. This result implies that digital storytelling is proven to be beneficial in teaching narrative

"Storytelling", existed long before the printed materials, has been replaced by digital storytelling with the development of technology. Digital storytelling has affected information gathering skills, problem solving and attitudes towards collaboration of education stakeholders. There is a necessity of studying digital storytelling process with pre-service teachers. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of digital storytelling process on digital literacy skills of pre-service teachers and examine the creation process in details. The study was carried out with 36 computer education pre-service teachers. Digital literacy assessment scale, digital storytelling assessment scale and opinion form of the digital story creation process are the data collection tools of this study. Findings show that digital literacy levels of pre-service teachers differ significantly after the digital story creation process. Digital story assessment scale shows that digital stories got high-level scores. Pre-service teachers’ opinions show some difficulties in digital story creation process and highlight the positive contribution of the process of digital storytelling in educational settings.
