In its Sixth Edition, this book has been updated and revised to incorporate new information on technology, economic, and political issues that have impacted the use of fluids to drill and complete ...oil and gas wells. With updated content on completion fluids and reservoir drilling fluids; health, safety and environment; drilling fluid systems and products; new fluid systems and additives from both chemical and engineering perspectives; wellbore stability, adding the new R&D on water-based muds; and equipment and procedures for evaluating drilling fluid performance in light of the advent of digital technology and better manufacturing techniques, this book has been thoroughly updated to meet the drilling and completion engineer's needs.

The blowout of the Macondo well on April 20, 2010, led to enormous consequences for the individuals involved in the drilling operations, and for their families. Eleven workers on the Deepwater ...Horizon drilling rig lost their lives and 16 others were seriously injured. There were also enormous consequences for the companies involved in the drilling operations, to the Gulf of Mexico environment, and to the economy of the region and beyond. The flow continued for nearly 3 months before the well could be completely killed, during which time, nearly 5 million barrels of oil spilled into the gulf.Macondo Well-Deepwater Horizon Blowout examines the causes of the blowout and provides a series of recommendations, for both the oil and gas industry and government regulators, intended to reduce the likelihood and impact of any future losses of well control during offshore drilling. According to this report, companies involved in offshore drilling should take a "system safety" approach to anticipating and managing possible dangers at every level of operation -- from ensuring the integrity of wells to designing blowout preventers that function under all foreseeable conditions-- in order to reduce the risk of another accident as catastrophic as the Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill. In addition, an enhanced regulatory approach should combine strong industry safety goals with mandatory oversight at critical points during drilling operations.Macondo Well-Deepwater Horizon Blowout discusses ultimate responsibility and accountability for well integrity and safety of offshore equipment, formal system safety education and training of personnel engaged in offshore drilling, and guidelines that should be established so that well designs incorporate protection against the various credible risks associated with the drilling and abandonment process. This book will be of interest to professionals in the oil and gas industry, government decision makers, environmental advocacy groups, and others who seek an understanding of the processes involved in order to ensure safety in undertakings of this nature.
Demand for drilled micro-holes on difficult to machine materials have increased over the past years and non-traditional drilling processes are commonly used to fabricate such micro-holes on difficult ...to machine materials. This research investigates different non-traditional drilling processes, such as electro discharge, laser beam, abrasive water jet, electrochemical and electrochemical discharge drilling methods. Drilling mechanism, material removal rate/machining speed and surface finish have been analysed for every process. These analyses clearly show that vaporisation, melting, chemical dissolution and mechanical erosion are dominant material removal mechanism during non-traditional drilling. The understanding on electro discharge, laser beam and abrasive water jet drilling are more developed than that of electrochemical, electrochemical discharge and hybrid drilling processes.
Introduction. Artesian well drilling, water testing, obtaining all the necessary permits, as well as designing, equipping, and final organization of work, including hiring the necessary staff, is ...often time-consuming and complex, and so it was for the leaders of the Free Royal City of Novi Sad in establishing the future Novi Sad "Jodna banja" (Iodine Spa). Spa House Rules. The paper gives an overview of the Rimanoczy Spa House Rules, which served as a model for creating similar house rules and shaping the work in the future spa. The success of the Novi Sad City Artesian Spa in the late 19th and early 20th century was attributed to visionaries, architects, city leaders, doctors, as well as numerous employees, who invested their knowledge and abilities to the people's needs in order to improve the wellbeing and health of the Spa guests. Put od kopanja arteskog bunara, analize vode, pribavljanja potrebnih dozvola, projektovanja, opremanja pa do finalne organizacije rada i angazovanja potrebnog osoblja, cesto je dugotrajan i slozen, iskusili su i celni ljudi slobodnog kraljevskog grada Novog Sada pri organizaciji rada buduce novosadske Jodne banje. Kucni red Banje. Designing and building structures that will withstand the unique challenges that exist in subsea operations is no easy task. As deepwater wells are drilled to greater depths, engineers are confronted ...with a new set of problems such as water depth, weather conditions, ocean currents, equipment reliability, and well accessibility, to name just a few. A definitive reference for engineers designing, analyzing and instilling offshore structures, this book provides an expert guide to the key processes, technologies and equipment that comprise contemporary offshore structures. Written in a clear and easy to understand language, the book is based on the authors 30 years of experience in the design, analysis and instillation of offshore structures. This book answers the above mentioned crucial questions as well as covers the entire spectrum of subjects in the discipline, from route selection and planning to design, construction, installation, materials and corrosion, inspection, welding, repair, risk assessment, and applicable design solutions. It yields a roadmap not only for the subsea engineer but also the project managers, estimators and regulatory personnel hoping to gain an appreciation of the overall issues and directed approaches to subsea engineering design solutions.
