IDEALUS (Innovation and Development through Entrepreneurial Activities for Learning University Students) was a project organized through the program Entrepreneurial University and was sponsored by ...Romanian-American Foundation. IDEALUS was designed to implement an Entrepreneurial Program and a Psychological program for students from non-economic faculties. The main objective of the project was the development of soft skills, meaning a set of interpersonal attributes needed for success in the professional field. A sample of 50 students enrolled in the project was assessed with a survey, put together by the authors, on the following directions: communication skills, creativity, self-confidence, social skills, assertiveness, leadership, negotiation and critical thinking. The survey was based on psychological consecrated tests, like BASC-2 (Behavior Assessment System for Children), ABCD-M (Big Five Questionnaire) and Cognitrom Assessment System and it was applied before and after the implementation of the activities in the project. The hypotheses we tested presumed the existence of significant differences between the two assessments regarding the above listed soft skills. Results show a statistically significant improvement only in creativity and leadership, while the other variables, although increased in value, showed no significant differences between the two assessments. Results are discussed in the end in the context of the benefits of the implementation of entrepreneurial activities for student’s personal and professional development.
Matematyka przeprowadzała pierwszy rok badań ekonomicznych. W Uniwersytecie Ekonomika w Krakowie (University of Economics in Kraków), akademicki studenci nie tylko w pierwszym roku, ale także w całym ...kursie, są istotnym czynnikiem ich również ich dalszego sukcesu lub problemów. Obydwie odpowiednie przygotowania w szkole średniej, również świadomość tego tematu, mają zasadnicze znaczenie w wydajności badań. W tym artykule przedstawię wyniki badań badaniowych wśród uczniów w procesie Applied Informatics w UEK świadomości (UEK wydajnej). Przedyskutuję również wyniki ich umiejętności “(” “)” (“) drugorzędne szkoły”) podczas badań lat 2011/2012, 2012/2013, and 2013/2014 z zewnętrznej egzebrania. Na tym poziomie rozpoczęcia dalszych badań zajęciach w pierwszym roku badań. Informacje zdobyte mogą udowodnić użyteczne nauczyciele akademicki w odpowiednim klasach. Artykuł zawiera również ogólne występy i "kształcenie uczniów badań ekonomicznych.
Mathematics is one of the main subjects conducted in the first year of economic studies. At the Faculty of Applied Informatics at the University of Economics in Kraków, mathematics accompanies students not only in the first year, but also throughout the entire course of studies, being an essential factor of either their further success or problems in studying. Therefore, both the proper preparation in this field acquired in secondary school, as well as the awareness of the importance of this subject, are essential factors influencing the efficiency of the undertaken studies. In this article, I will present the results of the survey research conducted among the first-year students at the Faculty of Applied Informatics at the UEK on the awareness of the necessity for mathematical knowledge in the process of efficient studying. I will also discuss the results of determining their actual mathematical skills acquired in secondary school on the basis of the research conducted in the academic years 2011/2012, 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 with the use of exemplary exercises from the matura final exam at the basic and extended level. On this basis, the conclusions serving as the starting point for further research on mathematical classes in the first year of studies have been drawn. The obtained information can prove useful for academic teachers in the proper conducting of classes on mathematical subjects. The article also contains general reflections and conclusions on the mathematical education of students of economic studies.
The present paper shows results of a qualitative survey of corporate social responsibility in the tertiary sector. An example of faculties of economics of public universities in the Czech Republic ...has been used for assessment of engagement of HEIs in corporate social responsibility activities in the key area covered by ISO 26 000 standard. HEIs in the Czech Republic are engaged in many CSR activities but these activities are often untargeted and representing by-products of other activities. The main drawbacks of all assessed faculties were discovered in the key area KO-5 – environment. The results for the first key area KO-1- organisation governance show that integration of the CSR concept in HEI strategy substantially defines the level of their overall engagement in corporate socially responsible activities.

For the assessment of High Education Institutions' engagement in CSR activities seven key areas covered by ISO 26,000 standard were used. Analyzed High Education Institutions in the Czech Republic are engaged in many CSR activities but these activities are often untargeted and representing by-products of other activities. The main drawbacks of all assessed faculties in the key area five -- "Environment" were discovered. The results for the first key area -- "Organisational governance" show that integration of the CSR concept in High Education Institutions strategy substantially defines the level of their overall engagement in corporate socially responsible activities.
There have been a few studies focusing on the online information-seeking behavior of business faculty, the most recent one having been done by Hoppenfeld and Smith and another by Proquest. This ...current case study adds to the literature by focusing on two activities: finding scholarly articles and finding scholarly books. The purpose was to learn how business and economics faculty at this institution discover and retrieve material for their scholarly research and to evaluate whether they use the University Libraries' subscription databases. Furthermore, participants who taught graduate- and undergraduate-level courses were asked whether their students needed to do research to complete their assignments.
This paper considers if the dearth of black economists on the faculties of economics departments that grant economics doctorates reduce the production of knowledge about the economics and political ...economy of race. Approximately, 53 years after the Civil Rights Act, the typical Ph.D. granting economics with department in the USA has no black faculty. Parameter estimates of a simple knowledge production function for research output in an economics journal dedicated primarily to the economics and political economy of race reveals that knowledge about the economics and political economy of race is increasing in the number of black economists on the faculty of economics departments in the USA that grant doctorates in economics. Our findings suggest that the historical hiring practices of Ph.D. granting economics departments in the USA have constrained the production of economics knowledge that can inform public policies that would reduce racial inequality and improve the living standards of black Americans.
In expressing his appreciation for the work of David Ruccio's blog, Occasional Links & Commentary, Richard Wolff discusses the common experiences of faculty members working from heterodox economics ...theories in the U.S. university system following the turn to neoclassical economics. After the marginalization and eventual removal of the notable heterodox economics department at the University of Notre Dame, Ruccio turned to blogging as a way of translating academically formulated concepts into and for general discussion with a wider readership that includes activists, social critics, academics, journalists, and a new generation of leftist politicians. This work of "popularization," rather than nonscientific, has constituted an important contribution to long-overdue social change.
Approximately 50 years ago, the Kerner Commission Report cited pervasive racial discrimination in training, education, and employment as a contributor to Black–White inequality and stratification in ...the United States. This article considers if the Kerner Commission Report incentivized and possibly caused an increase in the production and hiring of Black PhD economists in academia. With longitudinal data on counts of economic doctorates earned by Black Americans employed in economics departments between 1957 and 2018, we estimate the parameters of count data specifications that accounts for the 1968 Kerner Commission Report dichotomously. Parameter estimates from mixed and fixed effect Poisson, negative binomial, and Poisson quantile specifications suggest that while the Kerner Commission Report generally had a positive effect on the number of Black American economics doctorates employed as faculty, it had no effect on the hiring of Black economists at the typical research institution and PhD-granting economics department. Our results suggest that similar to the Kerner Commission Report characterization of the United States being two separate racially stratified societies, approximately 50 years later research institutions and PhD-granting economics departments in the United States are similarly racially stratified.
The principal investigator of a National Science Foundation project, "Economics at Community Colleges," surveyed community college economics faculty and organized workshops, webinars, and regional ...meetings to address community college faculty isolation from new ideas in economics and economics instruction. Survey results, combined with National Study of Postsecondary Faculty data, help fill a lacuna in information about community college faculty. A key finding is the reliance in community college economic instruction on part-time faculty, including many who do not hold a graduate degree in economics. The project's webinars reached the most community college faculty, while the workshops were most effective in improving economics instruction. Areas for future research are identified.
