Co-curricular activities refer to the events and learning skills that take place alongside the academic curriculum which offers opportunities for the students to develop specific skills and exhibit ...their non -academic abilities which are essential for interacting individually or collectively in their work and social life. These activities are considered as gained skills that accomplished out-of-class to complement and extend the formal learning skills of a course or academic program. This work has been conducted along with information technology track, computer science department, Community College, Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University, Dammam, Saudi Arabia. In this paper, a new methodology was suggested to improve the students’ performance based on modern generic skills by integrating co-curricular activities with curriculum to enhance the achievement of the necessary work requirements. The results showed that co-curricular activities had great effects on students' performance based on these skills.
The student engagement concept has been revolutionised so that students play an active role alongside staff members in determining their student learning experiences. Although the development of ...student-staff partnerships enhances student engagement and experience, empirical research on partnerships in Malaysia is scant. This paper contributes to the growing scholarly literature on such partnerships - in particular, exploring postgraduate international students and staff members' partnership dimensions in extra-curricular activities at a research university in Malaysia. This qualitative study interviewed 33 postgraduate international students, 10 academic staff and 12 professional staff members. Based on the findings, the student-staff partnership model is well integrated into the extra-curricular activities: international students are invited to co-design and implement adjustment programmes for newly arrived international students. This paper also explores the multi-layered benefits of partnerships for postgraduate international students and for staff members. The implications of such partnerships for the university, international students and staff members are discussed.

There are many studies on tourism students' attitudes towards the tourism industry. The main purpose of this particular study is how extracurricular student club membership status of tourism students affect their career intentions and post-graduation employability anxiety. It analyzes student club membership status as a moderating variable in building relationships between the career intentions and post-graduation employability anxiety. Data were collected from 512 respondents via survey. The research model is tested with structural equation model (SEM) and to test the moderating role of student club membership status in the relationship in question, PROCESS macro for SPSS is favoured. The study presents both theoretical insights and practical implications.

In this study, we used a mixed-methods research design to investigate the extra curricular participation of kindergarten-aged Hong Kong children, based on reports provided by 1260 parents, and ...parents’ perceptions of their children’s extra curricular participation, through nine individual interviews. The results of the survey indicated that kindergarten-aged Hong Kong children are regularly and extensively involved in extra curricular activities, and that children with more educated parents and children from families with higher incomes participate in more extra curricular activities. The interview responses revealed that, in general, the parents believe that extra curricular participation provides their children with opportunities for positive development that are beyond the scope of the training provided by kindergartens. We discuss the implications of these findings for parent education and Hong Kong’s policy of subsidizing kindergarten education.
The purpose of this study is to examine the association between extra-curricular activities and risky sexual and illicit drug use behaviours among youth (12-22 years old) in South Africa. The study ...uses nationally representative data. Descriptive statistics and logistic regression models are used. Results show that a high percentage of youth engage in at least one type of risky sexual behaviour (33.84%) and have used at least one type of illicit substance (7.79%). Sports (about 60%) and youth groups (about 15%) are the most popular forms extra-curricular activities. Further, the odds of risky sexual behaviour are higher for youth who participate in sports (OR = 1.29, p-value < .05) and youth groups (OR = 1.58, p-value < .05). While youth who engage in other, undefined extra-curricular activities (OR = 2.11, p-value < .05) and sports (OR = 1.03, p-value < .05) have higher odds of illicit drug use. There is need to monitor and evaluate local extra-curricular activities to prevent risky behaviours among youth.
Las experiencias óptimas (EO) se caracterizan por la implicación por motivación intrínseca en actividades en las que se experimenta un gran disfrute; estas experiencias también se han asociado al ...desarrollo personal y al compromiso con las actividades. Asimismo, las actividades extraescolares se han asociado al desarrollo positivo durante la adolescencia. El objetivo fue estudiar las características de la participación en actividades extraescolares que se asocian con la ocurrencia de EO en población adolescente de la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires, Argentina. Se administró el Inventario Breve de Experiencias Óptimas de Calero y Injoque-Ricle (2013) a 300 adolescentes que participaban de actividades extraescolares. Se observó que el tiempo dedicado a la actividad y la antigüedad de la práctica afectaba el nivel de EO, a diferencia del hecho de tener un profesor, de realizar la actividad con amigos o del tipo de actividad que no pareció afectar el nivel de EO. A la luz de los resultados resultan más importantes factores relacionados con la dedicación personal a la actividad, por encima de los factores vinculados a aspectos sociales o la naturaleza de las actividades.
This study was conducted to assess the level of participation of dental undergraduate students in extracurricular activities (ECAs) and the factors affecting this participation.
The study included ...dental students enrolled in undergraduate programs at the Faculty of Dentistry, Alexandria University, Egypt, and the College of Dentistry, University of Dammam, Saudi Arabia. A questionnaire was developed to collect background information about students, their participation in ECAs, and time allocated for these activities. Students were asked about their perceptions of the relationship between ECAs and academic studies, and their reasons for participating in and satisfaction with ECAs.
The study included 199 students from Alexandria and 146 students from Dammam, with response rates of 99.5% and 73%, respectively. The percentages of those reporting ECA participation were 27.1% and 43.8%, respectively, mostly in community service, sports, and social activities. About 60% of students did not think that ECAs affected their studies, although the perceived difficulty of balancing ECAs and academics was associated with lower odds of participation (odds ratio=0.51). Most students participated in ECAs to socialize and make friends, and the majority was dissatisfied with school-organized ECAs (52% and 59%, respectively). Gender and/or perceived relation between ECAs and academic studies affected actual participation in ECAs in one school but not the other.
ECA participation among these students was low. Gender and perception of ECAs in relation to academic studies affected ECA participation differently in the two schools. Better planning and management of ECAs that incorporate students’ preferences and reasons for participation is needed. Gender issues and the relationship between ECAs and academic performance should be addressed in relation to school and social characteristics.
This article reports a study that investigated student engagement and inhibitors of their engagement with developing employability skills via extra-curricular activities in Vietnamese universities. ...Content analysis of 18 interviews with students and statistical analysis of 423 students' responses to a paper-based survey showed that despite a variety of extra-curricular activities being frequently organised, students engaged in these activities just above a moderate level. The analysis revealed that students with different motivations as well as students from different university types, disciplines, and university years engaged differently with developing employability skills via this channel. Five inhibitors of their engagement were identified, including students' working part-time, a lack of information about extra-curricular activities, students' beliefs about participating bringing no benefits, competition with curriculum-based activities, and unprofessional organisation of these activities. The article discusses ways to improve student engagement with developing employability skills via extra-curricular activities.
