Four phenotypically similar bacterial strains isolated from fungal, plant, and human sources were identified as Azospirillum species. The new species is similar to its northern Tanzanian congener S. kitumbeine , but may be distinguished from that species by its facial ...markings, smaller tympanum, minor differences in head and snout shape, nostril closer to tip of the snout than to the eye, dorsal colour pattern, longitudinal skin folds, immaculate abdomen and slightly reduced webbing on the foot. It is suggested that there is a 'northern volcanic' group of species within Strongylopus . The phylogenetic grade of the 'volcanic' Strongylopus species is uncertain. If they are relatively plesiomorphic then the phylogeography of the genus is more complex than has hitherto been assumed. Should there turn out to be two widely separated plesiomorphic groups within the genus, then its evolutionary-biogeographical relationships would be of considerable interest and merit further investigation. The conservation status of the new species is uncertain but it might be threatened by the effects of ongoing climate change on Mt Kilimanjaro.

Abstract
In diesem Beitrag werden die klimaregulierenden und biodiversitätsfördernden Wirkpotenziale und Synergien eines innovativen Grünfassadensystems für Mensch, Flora und Fauna vorgestellt. Mit ...dem eigens entwickelten System werden vertikale Lebensräume insbesondere für gebietsheimische Pflanzen, Vögel und Insekten erschlossen sowie klimatische Ausgleichsfunktionen für Gebäude und Menschen geschaffen. Eine interdisziplinär ausgerichtete Untersuchungsmethodik führt die Bereiche (Stadt‐)Bauphysik und Ökologie zusammen. Die daraus resultierenden Untersuchungsergebnisse aus den Sommermonaten 2022 belegen den Beitrag der begrünten Oberfläche zur Verringerung von Hitzeeinträgen in die dahinterliegende Fassade sowie in die gebäudenahe Umgebung im Vergleich zu einer Referenzbetonwand. Gleichzeitig wurde die Artenvielfalt (bspw. unterschiedliche Insekten) auf der Vertikalen, durch die Schaffung von heterogenen Lebensräumen und Pflanzenbeständen signifikant erhöht. Dadurch stellt das entwickelte Grünsystem einen innovativen Baustein zur Bewältigung von komplexen Anforderungen durch Klimawandel, Urbanisierung und Artenschwund in der gebauten Umwelt dar und zeigt Lösungen für inklusive urbane Oberflächen für Mensch, Flora und Fauna auf.
Abstract
Development and testing of an urban green façade system for humans, flora and fauna
This paper presents the climate‐regulating and biodiversity‐supporting potential and synergies of an innovative green façade system for humans, flora and fauna. The developed system opens up vertical habitats, especially for native plants, birds and insects, and creates climatic compensation functions for buildings and people. An interdisciplinary research methodology brings together the fields of (urban) building physics and ecology. The test results from the summer months of 2022 prove the contribution of the green surface to reducing heat input into the façade as well as into the surrounding area in comparison to a reference concrete wall. At the same time, the biodiversity (e.g. different insects) was significantly increased on the vertical by creating heterogeneous habitats and plant populations. Thus, the developed green system represents an innovative element for coping with complex requirements due to climate change, urbanization and species loss in the built environment and shows solutions for inclusive urban surfaces for humans, flora and fauna.
