Abstract
Zur Prüfung der Eigenschaften von Frischbeton liegen gegenwärtig nur sehr einfache empirische Prüfverfahren vor. Im DACH‐Raum wird überwiegend das Ausbreitmaß als Prüfverfahren eingesetzt. ...Aus dem Durchmesser des ausgebreiteten Frischbetons wird dabei auf die Konsistenz des Betons geschlossen. (Korrektur‐)Maßnahmen bei festgestellten Qualitätsabweichungen basieren nahezu ausschließlich auf einer subjektiven Augenscheinprüfung und demnach auf dem Erfahrungswissen der handelnden Personen. Zur Überwindung und Erweiterung dieser stark subjektiv geprägten Frischbetonprüfung wurde eine bildbasierte Methodik zur Ermittlung von (Frisch‐)Betoneigenschaften entwickelt und validiert. Neben dem Durchmesser können so u. a. aus der Oberflächengestalt umfangreiche – bislang für den Prüfenden unzugängliche – Informationen z. B. zur Betonzusammensetzung oder zur Homogenität des Frischbetons abgeleitet werden. Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden zunächst die Grundlagen für die bildbasierte Frischbetonprüfung erläutert und anschließend eine Methode zur bildbasierten Ermittlung der Konsistenz und des Leimgehalts von frischem Beton vorgestellt. In Folgebeiträgen wird darauf aufbauend die bildbasierte Ermittlung granulometrischer Eigenschaften (Teil 2) und der Homogenität des Frischbetons vorgestellt (Teil 3).
Abstract
Image‐based quality conctrol – part 1: consistency and paste content
Today, only very simple empirical test methods are available for quality conctrol of fresh concrete on the construction site or in the production plant. Corrective actions in the case of quality deviations are based on a subjective visual inspection and thus on the experience of the inspector. The standard test method in Europe is the flow table test. The consistency of the concrete is derived from the diameter of the spread out fresh concrete. In order to overcome the deficiencies of this subjective fresh concrete testing, an image‐based method for determining (fresh) concrete properties was developed and validated. In addition to the diameter, extensive information can be derived from the surface properties of fresh conrete. In this paper, the image‐based determination of the consistency and the paste content is explained. The image‐based determination of granulometric properties (part 2) and the homogeneity of fresh concrete (part 3) will be presented in planned follow‐up articles.

Abstract
Homogenität – d.h. die Gleichmäßigkeit der Zusammensetzung und Eigenschaften des Betons im frischen und festen Zustand – ist eine zentrale Anforderung an den Baustoff Beton. Variationen der ...Homogenität äußern sich in der Regel in lokalen Veränderungen z.B. des E‐Moduls, der Festigkeit oder Dauerhaftigkeit. Insbesondere bei hochfließfähigen (≥F5) und selbstverdichtenden Betonen (SVB), aber z.B. auch bei LP‐Betonen ist die Homogenität eine zeitabhängige Größe und ändert sich durch Entmischungsprozesse wie z.B. Sedimentation der groben Gesteinskörnung und Wasserabsonderung oder infolge einer ungeeigneten Verarbeitung. Eine Bewertung der Homogenität des frischen Betons ist mit den gegenwärtigen Prüfverfahren auf der Baustelle nur augenscheinlich möglich, da insbesondere die räumliche Verteilung der Betonausgangsstoffe (und damit die Homogenität) bislang nicht quantifiziert werden kann. Aufbauend auf den bereits in den ersten beiden Teilen dieses Beitrags vorgestellten bewertbaren Eigenschaften wird in diesem Beitrag das Eigenschaftsspektrum der bildbasierten Frischbetonprüfung um die Homogenität des Frischbetons erweitert. Dazu werden visuell erfassbare Eigenschaften des ausgebreiteten Frischbetons im Rahmen der Ausbreitmaßprüfung – Leimabsonderungen im Randbereich sowie geometrische Verteilung der Gesteinskörnung an der Oberfläche – herangezogen.

Image‐based quality conctrol – part 3: homogeneity of fresh concrete
Homogeneity – i.e. the uniformity of the composition and properties of concrete in its fresh and hardened state – is a central requirement for concrete as a building material. Variations in homogeneity usually expressed in local changes, e.g. in the modulus of elasticity, strength or durability. Especially in the case of highly flowable (≥ F5) and self‐compacting concretes (SCC) but also, for example, in the case of air entrained concretes, homogeneity is a time‐dependent variable and changes due to segregation processes such as sedimentation and bleeding or as a result of unsuitable processing. An evaluation of the homogeneity of the fresh concrete is only possible visualy with the current testing methods on construction site. Building on the assessable properties already presented in the first two parts of this article, the range of properties of image‐based quality control is extended to include the homogeneity of the fresh concrete. For this purpose, visually detectable properties of the fresh concrete are used within the scope of the flow table test – paste separation in the edge area and geometric distribution of the aggregate on the surface.

A straightforward mix design method was developed for proportioning mortars containing superabsorbent polymers (SAPs). When modified by introduction of a typical amount of SAP (i.e., 0.2% by weight of cement), the 0.42 w/c ordinary Portland cement (OPC) mortars required addition of extra water and/or high-range water reducing admixture (HRWRA) to achieve a minimum target percent flow in mortar flow table tests. At high w/c (≥0.49), SAP accelerated compressive and flexural strength development. In all mortars tested, the addition of SAP either preserved or increased compressive and flexural strength values relative to SAP-free mortar with the same w/c.

Bereits heute ist absehbar, dass notwendige Veränderungen in der Betontechnologie zur Erreichung der Klimaschutzziele einen signifikanten Wandel in den typischerweise eingesetzten ...Betonzusammensetzungen zur Folge haben werden. Die eingesetzten Ausgangsstoffe werden immer vielfältiger und komplexer. Durch den Einsatz rezyklierter Ausgangsstoffe werden auch Schwankungen in den Ausgangsstoffeigenschaften signifikant zunehmen. Eine zielsichere und zeiteffiziente Ermittlung der granulometrischen Eigenschaften der verwendeten Gesteinskörnung ist somit insbesondere für sogenannte Ökobetone zur Sicherstellung gleichbleibender Qualitätsmerkmale von entscheidender Bedeutung. Es gilt zukünftig, mögliche Qualitätsabweichungen des Frischbetons resultierend aus Schwankungen der Ausgangsstoffe zeiteffizient zu ermitteln, um so schnellstmöglich entsprechende Anpassungen im Produktionszyklus vornehmen zu können. In diesem Beitrag wird daher eine bildbasierte Methodik zur digitalen Bewertung granulometrischer Eigenschaften der Gesteinskörnung im Rahmen der Ausbreitmaßprüfung vorgestellt. Damit wird das Eigenschaftsspektrum der bereits in Teil 1 dieses Beitrags vorgestellten bildbasierten Methodik, welcher die bildbasierte Ermittlung der Konsistenz und des Leimgehalts beschreibt, hin zu einer vollumfänglichen digitalen Frischbetonprüfung entsprechend erweitert.

Image‐based quality control – part 2: granulometric properties
The changes in concrete technology necessary to achieve the climate protection targets will lead to a significant change in the concrete mixtures typically used. The raw materials used are becoming more diverse and complex. The use of recycled raw materials will also significantly increase the fluctuations in the properties of the raw materials. An Accurate and time‐efficient determination of the granulometric properties of the aggregate is of crucial importance, especially for “eco‐concretes”, in order to ensure consistent quality characteristics. As a natural raw material, the aggregate is subject to certain fluctuations to which such optimized concrete compositions can react relatively sensitively. In the future, it will be necessary to determine possible quality deviations of the fresh concrete resulting from fluctuations in the raw materials in a time‐efficient manner in order to be able to make appropriate adjustments in the production process as quickly as possible. This paper presents an image‐based quality control for the digital evaluation of granulometric properties of the aggregate as a part oft he flow table test. Accordingly, the range of properties of the image‐based method already presented in Part 1 of this paper is extended to a fully comprehensive digital quality control. This paper presents the image‐based determination of the granulometric properties of the aggregate as a part oft he flow table test. The determination is based on the image‐based quality control described in part 1 of this paper.
3D concrete printing is an avant-garde building process with the potential to revolutionise the construction industry by automating construction procedures, reducing material consumption, lowering ...form-work costs, and optimising structural elements. The current study proposes a methodology for developing plain and fibered 3D printable concrete mixes using locally available binders (cement, silica fume, fly ash, and limestone powder), fine aggregate, water, admixtures, polypropylene fibers, and steel fibers. The study presents the results of 24 trials conducted to develop mixes for concrete 3D printing. According to the present studies, the recommended flow for the mix to be extrudable, printable, and buildable is between 19–21 cm and the open time is 45–60 min. The printed specimens under bending failed monolithically with a single dominant crack. The plain and fibered 3D printed specimens possessed greater flexural strength than the in-situ cast specimens. The increase in flexure capacity is found to be in the range of 07–22%.
Abstract
In today’s engineering world, an industrial ecology is a prevalent approach for achieving long-term industrial development. This approach encourages waste from by-products to be recycled. ...One of these by-product wastes is rice husk ash (RHA). Previous research has highlighted RHA’s significant potential as a cement additive alternative. The possible use of RHA as a partial replacement for cement in designed cementitious composites is briefly described in the work (Engineered Cementitious Composite). RHA was utilized to substitute cement at various percentages by volume in the experiments, including 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. The flow table test was used to evaluate the workability of the fresh mortar mix, while the compressive strength test was used to study the mechanical properties of the hardened mortar. From the result obtained, the workability of RHA-ECC decreased when the amount of RHA in the sample was increased. The compressive strength of RHA-ECC is maximum at 10% by volume compared to other replacement levels with 52.21% at 28 days of curing. This study adds to the body of knowledge about the sustainability of RHA as a partial cement replacement for ECC.

Determining the workability and mechanical behaviour of alkali-activated mortar (AAM) cured under atmospheric air conditions with diverse industrial waste materials as binder precursors are the prime ...goals of the current research. The different combinations of slag and fly ash with class C and class F grades were utilized for preparing the AAM and flow table test, compressive strength test and flexural strength test were done in the laboratory to assess the performance of mortar. The results showed that the increase in slag content improves the mechanical behaviour while adversely affecting workability. This study suggests that alkali-activated systems could replace conventional cement concrete in construction projects if properly designed with.
