Diode-pumped alkali vapor lasers (DPAL) are attracted much attention during recent years for its numerous potential applications. Development of DPAL is reviewed in this paper. The key techniques of ...DPAL are summarized and analyzed in detail, including the interactions between buffer gas and alkali vapor, pumping structure and power scaling magnification. Novel techniques used in DPAL are discussed, such as hydrocarbon-free DPAL and unstable cavity with transverse pumping. Blue-violet lasers by frequency doubling of DPAL are also introduced specifically. In addition, potential applications and the prospects of DPAL are concluded briefly.

A gas-discharge fiber laser based on a hollow-core fiber is created for the first time. The core diameter is 130 µm. Microwave radiation with a frequency of 2.45 GHz is used as a pump. As an active ...medium, a He : Ar : Xe gas mixture in the ratio of 100 : 10 : 1 is used. The total gas pressure in the fiber core is 130 Torr. At the output of the fiber cavity formed by broadband mirrors, lasing on xenon atoms at the wavelength of 2027 nm is observed. The result obtained opens new prospects for developing gas-discharge fiber lasers combining advantages of both fiber and gas-discharge lasers, and have potential application in various fields of science and engineering.

In this paper, from the efficiency point of view, a systematic comparison of Cesium, Rubidium and Potassium lasers is made. The different properties for the three types of lasers mainly arise from ...their energy structure, especially the difference of fine-structure energy gap. At a realistic pump intensity of several kW/cm2, the Cesium laser shows a best performance. Some other considerations for choice are also discussed.
We developed a longitudinally excited CO2 laser without a discharge switch and installed a fast highvoltagesolid state switch that consists of a series of connected MOSFETs to a longitudinally ...excitedCO2 laser as a spiker for sustaining the discharge. Laser oscillation was successfully achieved at a spikervoltage of 5 kV with a rise time of 40 ns. Several mJs of laser energy were stably obtained.
