The multifunctional tool this paper presents has been developed within the TAGFACT project, a project that aims to automate the annotation of factuality –understood as the degree of commitment with ...which the writer presents situations– in Spanish journalistic texts. In what follows, the tool, which allows the compilation of the texts and the manual annotation of predicates, is described. The corpus created using it has been extracted in groups of three pieces of news covering the same event from newspapers with different ideologies (left wing, right wing and centrist). It is made up of 176 different pieces of news, containing 1,359 sentences and 46,947 words. The tool has been used so far to manually annotate a section of the ‘Gold Standard’ (approximately 10,000 words). It has proved to be versatile in that it allows for both the creation and management of corpora and corpus annotation, using any tags the user wants depending on the purpose of each corpus.
This paper reports on a study of the inter-annotation agreement to assess the manual annotation of the TAGFACT Gold Standard corpus. This corpus has been created as part of a larger project ...(TAGFACT), whose final objective is to automatize the classification of the factual status of events in a corpus of Spanish journalistic texts. In our study, six annotators labeled a corpus using the four levels of linguistic description proposed in our project to extract factual information. Each one of these levels has been assessed independently. As expected, the more fine-grained the classification is, the more problematic the annotation. This study identifies some of the most important differences and discusses the main problems encountered to obtain full agreement. We use Cohen’s Kappa to measure inter-annotation agreement as well as descriptive statistical analysis.

En este artículo se revisan algunas constantes entre la personalidad del escritor Porfirio Barba Jacob, algunos momentos de su poesía y el tono en los contenidos de su trabajo periodístico. El ánimo ...acre y furibundo sirve como hilo conductor que permite dar cuenta de su forma de estar en el mundo: airada y rebelde. Y revela, a la distancia, la importancia de ciertos juicios políticos.
A través de un marco teórico transdisciplinar, constituido, de un lado, por las nociones de cultura y de patrón o estándar cultural, y, de otro, por los planteamientos del análisis crítico del ...discurso, desarrollamos un estudio contrastivo en torno a la repercusión de los patrones culturales comúnmente atribuidos a las sociedades de España y Alemania sobre el tratamiento informativo que sus respectivos medios conceden a las noticias sobre violencia de género. Para ello, a partir de un corpus constituido por noticias extraídas de la prensa española y alemana que dan cobertura a dos sucesos ocurridos en el año 2019 y en los que se hallan implicados los dos países, examinamos cinco patrones culturales que, según los estudiosos, oponen a estas dos comunidades: orientación material y factual versus orientación interpersonal; rigidez versus relativización de las normas; separación versus convivencia de la esfera privada y pública; individualismo y sentido abstracto de la colectividad versus sentimiento de pertenencia al grupo; y, finalmente, y muy relacionado con el patrón anterior, el rol que las respectivas culturas otorgan a la institución familiar. El examen de estos cinco patrones culturales pone de manifiesto que la configuración de este género de noticias está condicionada por las prácticas sociales y culturales de quienes lo producen y de quienes lo reciben, pues son ostensibles las divergencias derivadas de las normas de regulación y de comportamiento de cada uno de estos espacios culturales.
Sabemos que el género columna periodística se presenta con una gran libertad de disposición y estilo, lo que dificulta en gran manera, dada esta diversidad, cualquier intento de regulación formal. No ...obstante, tras considerar una de las orientaciones sugeridas por las coordinadoras de este volumen monográfico –la que se refiere a los recursos expresivos y a las estructuras lingüístico-discursivas utilizadas en los textos periodísticos–, concebimos la posibilidad de analizar algunos aspectos que sirvieran para regular, de algún modo, las ciento dos columnas que, sobre cuestiones lingüísticas, fueron recogidas en el libro El habla nuestra de cada día (Cortés, 2019). El análisis de tales columnas mostró desde un primer momento dos ideas destacadas: a) la preocupación del autor por el relieve de inicios y cierres, y b) la repetición constante de los diferentes recursos empleados en ambas secuencias a lo largo de las columnas. El artículo analiza detenidamente cuáles fueron esos recursos y su función.
The article is dedicated to representation and functions of tropes in American journalistic texts, their semantic and cognitive features. The figurative language under analysis is a reflection of ...American politicians’ language, in particular their everyday metaphors. Not only do we examine the main aspects of figurative language associated with aquatic habitat used by American politicians in public discourse, but we also rely upon an approach based on conceptual metaphor theory when we analyse and classify conceptual metaphors related to water. The object of cognitive analysis is political texts in American newspapers and magazines. The author provides a linguistic analysis of conceptual metaphors, their functions and application. Metaphors serve as indicators of functional changes in American English. Cognitive aspects of metaphors are being discussed. According to the theory of cognitive linguistics, a metaphor is an integral part of the cognitive process and an instrument that expresses and forms new notions. American politicians often use metaphors to affect the unconscious minds of the people. The research results show that the most frequently used conceptual metaphors in the analysed corpora are the linguistic realisations of metaphors from the source domain of aquatic habitat. All the metaphors of this group are classified into subgroups according to the key semantic component. A deep consideration is given to aquatic metaphors and reasons of their topicality.
