Patient’s appearance affects provider perception of patients and subsequent provider behavior. Based on anecdotal information, it was hypothesized that wearing a health organization’s brand would ...result in a more positive perception of a patient by providers and subsequently a better patient experience. A study of 121 individuals with patient contact was conducted. Using photos of patients with and without a health care brand on their shirts, study subjects rated the attractiveness and willingness to engage with photos of patients. Patients with a Mayo brand and UK HealthCare brand showed some significant positive attractiveness over the same patient without the brand. Wearing a health organization brand may increase a patient’s attractiveness. However, no differences in provider behavior were noted. Unexpectedly providers as a group viewed some patients significantly less desirable than others and indicated it would affect the amount of time they would spend and information they would share with a patient. Health care organizations need to regularly reinforce to their providers and front line staff, the human tendency to provide lower quality service and of care to less attractive or desirable patients.
This study aims at investigating the role of brand logo on consumers' loyalty and developing an appropriate analytical model. In this study, a questionnaire with 55 questions, which is made by ...authors, is used for investigate research’ variables. Target population of the study is consisted of all brand consumers of different products, e.g. textile, food, electronic and sanitary devices, in Tehran, of which 377 persons were sampled using cluster method to respond to the questionnaire of the research. To assess the validity of the questionnaire, the content and construct validity were used and its reliability was measured by Cronbach's alpha, which the reliability of the whole questionnaire was 0.954. Data from the survey questionnaires using structural equation modeling was analyzed, which resulted in good results for indices of fit and fitness of the model. The results of this study showed a direct correlation between independent variableand the dependent variable. Results of testing the main hypotheses of the study using structural equation modeling showed a causal relationship between research’s variables. The fitness indicators of the model show that model in terms of suitability and fitness indicators has a good condition. Thus, we can conclude that model has a good fitness. The results also showed that all indicators of function variable have good T values (greater than 1.96) and acceptable load factor. In addition, according to the path coefficients, research variables altogether are able to explain 89% of variations of loyalty variable.
This is a semiotic analysis of the Royal Dutch Shell logo (the Pecten—scallop shell). More specifically, we looked at the evolutionary examination of the corporation’s logo from its inception in 1904 ...until the newest version of the graphic emblem today. This semiotic analysis has two chief purposes. First, the internal meaning of the logo as a sign is analyzed, using Peirce’s three-part model of signification (that is, representamen–object–interpretant) which justifies the relationships existing between the sign and its object. Second, an examination of the relationships between the sign and its external referents is presented. An important conclusion is that, to be effective, the Shell logo has to be recognizable, easy to perceive and understandable. It has also been streamlined over the years to portray the true values of the company. For this reason, corporate identity tends to be evolutionary in nature.

► Oxysterol binding proteins in
Arabidopsis and rice are described and classified. ► The fingerprint region “EQVSHHPP” and pleckstrin homology domain is identified. ► mRNA expression of
Arabidopsis ...ORPs is necessarily under environmental control. ► The ORP3C and ORP3B are highly expressed in all developmental stages analyzed. ► The crucial functional role of ORPs is revealed under various stress conditions.
Cell wall deposition, biosynthesis of steroid hormones, and maintenance of membrane composition and integrity, are some of the crucial functions of sterols in plants. Followed by their synthesis in the endoplasmic reticulum, the sterols accumulate in the plasma membrane. The concept of sterol trafficking in plant cell is not well understood. The oxysterol binding proteins are implicated in sterol transport in non-plant systems. In the study, the oxysterol binding proteins in
Arabidopsis and rice are described and classified. The
Arabidopsis genome encodes 12 oxysterol binding proteins-related proteins (ORPs) as compared to 6 oxysterol binding proteins (OSBPs/ORPs) in rice. The protein alignment studies reveal that amino acid sequences for oxysterol binding proteins are relatively well conserved in
Arabidopsis and rice. The rice OSBPs are classified based on their phylogenetic relationship with
Arabidopsis ORPs. The sequence LOGO built on LOC_Os03g16690 indicated presence of fingerprint region of amino acids “EQVSHHPP” for
Arabidopsis and rice OSBPs/ORPs. The organization of pleckstrin homology domain is identified in several OSBPs/ORPs in
Arabidopsis and rice. The
Arabidopsis oligonucleotide array data is explored to understand the expression patterns of ORPs under 17 different experimental conditions. The analysis showed the expression of ORPs in
Arabidopsis is necessarily under the control of biotic stress, chemical, elicitor, hormone, light intensity, abiotic stress, and temperature conditions. The linear mean signal values for
Arabidopsis ORPs revealed their relative expression patterns in different developmental stages. The genes for ORP3C and ORP3B are highly expressed in all developmental stages that were analyzed. The present study thus indicates crucial functional role of the individual members of this gene family in different environmental stress conditions.
When predicting the subcellular localization of proteins from their amino acid sequences, there are basically three approaches: signal-based, global property-based, and homology-based. Each of these ...has its advantages and drawbacks, and it is important when comparing methods to know which approach was used. Various statistical and machine learning algorithms are used with all three approaches, and various measures and standards are employed when reporting the performances of the developed methods. This chapter presents a number of available methods for prediction of sorting signals and subcellular localization, but rather than providing a checklist of which predictors to use, it aims to function as a guide for critical assessment of prediction methods.
Purpose
Reviews the latest management developments across the globe and pinpoints practical implications from cutting‐edge research and case studies.
Design/methodology/approach
This briefing is ...prepared by an independent writer who adds their own impartial comments and places the articles in context.
Findings
When passengers are about to board Belgian carrier Brussels Airlines planes they are faced with an attractive stylized “b” on the tail, made up of 14 large dots. It hasn't always been 14. Back in 2007 the original design had 13 but the company was forced to amend it because of complaints from superstitious passengers, mainly from the USA and Italy.
Practical implications
Provides strategic insights and practical thinking that have influenced some of the world's leading organizations.
Social implications
Provides strategic insights and practical thinking that can have a broader social impact.
Originality/value
The briefing saves busy executives and researchers hours of reading time by selecting only the very best, most pertinent information and presenting it in a condensed and easy‐to‐digest format.
Purpose
– The purpose of this research is to investigate whether the brand name–mark sound symbolism relationship extends beyond US marketplaces to emerging markets. Sound symbolism research ...indicates that consistent brand name meaning can be conveyed across international marketplaces. Yet, prior work has not investigated whether visual branding elements provide consistent meaning across such contexts.
Design/methodology/approach
– To contrast effects across international contexts, we replicate both studies of Klink (2003) with bilingual subjects in Mumbai, India. Study 1 examined whether the sound symbolic relationship between brand name and brand mark holds in this emerging market. Study 2 investigated whether both the brand name and brand mark together can enhance brand meaning in this context.
Findings
– Study 1 finds support for the relationship between higher-frequency brand names and brand marks that are angular and smaller in size, with limited support regarding color. Study 2 finds a significant effect for brand marks and a marginally significant effect for brand names on conveying intended meaning.
Originality/value
– The authors confirm the relationship between the brand mark and brand name; however, color meaning may be less universal than prior theory and research indicates. In addition, the effect of the brand name on conveying sound symbolism meaning may be less important than visual branding elements in emerging markets. Hence, future research may wish to include additional branding elements in experimental stimuli when testing sound symbolism theory.
