The primary objective of this study was to analyse the development of the effect of the bachelor's and master's tertiary degree on both respondents' wage and socioeconomic status in the Czech labour ...market ten years after the Bologna Process. For the purposes of the study, structural modelling was applied using the European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC, 2010-2017) and Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC, 2011/12) data. The results revealed that despite a slightly decreasing direct effect of the master's degree on wages, the association between the master's degree and socioeconomic status intensified. Compared to that, the bachelor's degree exhibited a stable direct effect on wages but a decreasing effect on socioeconomic status. While relatively stable overall returns to tertiary education can be supposed based on total effects, the channels through which the stability is reached may differ for the bachelor's and master's degrees.
Postgraduate master's dissertation supervision is one of the least understood aspects of academic practice. Using action research, 25 master's supervisors aimed to develop a better understanding of ...the complexities and challenges involved in this role. Through focus groups, individual interviews and monthly workshops, they developed and piloted resources for new supervisors. The main complexities and challenges identified and articulated were: understanding the student, accepting the unpredictability of their progress, tailoring support, giving constructive feedback, and developing their personal understanding of supervision. Following the project, those involved reported increased awareness and confidence in their supervisory role and changes in their academic practice.
Teaching reference during the pandemic can lead to revising course content, management, and delivery. Contact with students leads to the greatest lessons learned.
Educational programs to prepare nurse practitioners (NPs) were historically built upon foundational nursing experience. Originally prepared as certificate programs in 1965, the educational ...requirements for nurse practitioners (NPs) rapidly shifted from certificate programs to the Master's degree (DellaBella, 2015; Fairman, 2008). As Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree programs increase in number, it is unknown whether this foundational nursing experience has changed, or if it differs by certification type for pediatric nurse practitioners (PNPs). This study aimed to evaluate the educational preparation and prior nursing experience of primary care and acute care certified PNPs.
A national survey of members of the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Certification Board (N = 17,530) was completed (Mudd et al., 2022). A sub-analysis of this data was conducted (n = 1974). Results: There was no statistical evidence among either primary or acute care PNPs of an association between previous nursing experience and type of degree preparation (Master's or DNP). There was only a weak association between educational preparation and experience among acute care nurse practitioners. Most respondents were prepared at the Master's level, and 85% of all respondents had >1 year of nursing experience prior to returning for additional PNP education.
This study adds to the literature as it describes the educational preparation and foundational nursing experience of primary and acute care PNPs. It can serve as a benchmark as the move to the DNP continues for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse preparation.
•Most PNPs returned to school with more than a year of nursing experience, regardless of whether they were seeking pediatric primary or acute care educational preparation.•Most PNP's returned to school with more than a year of nursing experience, regardless of whether they were seeking Master's or DNP degrees.•Most PNP's (primary and acute care certified) continue to be prepared at the Master's level, despite the increase in Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs.
In recent years, the gap between theory and practice in business administration has been turning into an uncomfortable chasm. However, few studies empirically explore the construction of bridges ...between theory and practice. 'Jabuticaba' is a typical Brazilian fruit. The term is often used to denigrate government-set standards and rules that exist only in the country. Since professional master's programmes are encouraged by regulation, it is worth discussing whether this type of programme is another exotic Brazilian product or a model that merits learning by other countries to bridge the theory and practice gap. This article explores the creation and development of a professional master's programme in a large business school in Brazil. It contributes to the literature on the theory and practice gap by showing that a professional master's programme, with appropriate institutional support, can be a viable model to narrow the theory and practice gap.
Students of reference service can better prepare for careers in serving today's communities by not only being sensitive to the needs of all members of their communities but also serving as advocates ...for services for those who are disenfranchised. This column addresses the place of incorporating the philosophy and application of social justice into the education of information specialists who are preparing for careers as reference librarians.
The two topics of the article seem to have absolutely nothing to do with each other and, as can be expected in a contribution in honor and memory of Prof. Fritz Ackermann, they are linked in his ...person. Vision-based Navigation was the focus of the doctoral thesis written by the author, the 29th and last PhD thesis supervised by Prof. Ackermann. The International Master's Program Photogrammetry and Geoinformatics, which the author established with colleagues at Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences (HfT Stuttgart) in 1999, was a consequence of Prof. Ackermann's benevolent promotion of international knowledge transfer in teaching. Both topics are reflected in this article; they provide further splashes of color in Prof. Ackermann's oeuvre.
