This review presents some key issues in the mainland Chinese research on literary works of Chinese emigrants and authors of Chinese descent examining a series of recently published and representative ...papers. After a brief retrospection of the development of relative studies in the country, the author discusses the questions of denomination, methodology, and canon by juxtaposing opinions of various scholars. In the analysis a particular attention is given to the “Chineseness”, a concept sometimes mythicized by some essentialist discourses in the Chinese academia.
Velibor Čolić, a writer born in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1964, has lived in France since 1992. In the 1980’s, he began to write literary texts in his mother tongue, and after going into exile, French became the privileged language of his creative expression. In his more recent prose texts, he thematizes the migrant experience that marked him existentially. Based on the hermeneutic analysis of public appearances and conversations that Velibor Čolić had with journalists from the French, Croatian, Slovenian, Montenegrin and Bosnian media, the paper examines the way in which he discursively constructs the auctorial posture of a migrant and translingual author and positions himself in the French literary field.
It was the acts of racism that prompted the debate on immigration in Italy. At the same time, the phenomenon was recognised thanks to the literary production of authors, whose efforts gave rise to ...migrant literature in Italy. Over the years, this focus on immigrants saw a gradual maturation which, while stimulating the evolution of the intercultural perspective in the Italian context, also resulted in an increasingly recurring motif in textbooks: an opportunity for in-depth study and reflection in the classroom on the theme of racism and anti-racism, rights and duties, diversity and affinity, opportunities and equality. Starting from these assumptions, as well as from their own study and research experience, the authors aim to explore how much the use of migrant literature can contribute to promoting intercultural education and thus the construction of a broader critical-reflective thinking, capable of leading to the overcoming of racism in favour of a culture of anti-racism.
