The formulated powder particles showed a high yield of 71 to 84%, mean diameter 2.41 to 5.99 µm, and total oil content of up to 10.80%. The results showed that both the wall material type and concentration, as well as the type of essential oil, significantly affected the encapsulation process and the final particle characteristics. Our study has demonstrated that the encapsulation of lavender and peppermint oils in Arabic gum/maltodextrin microparticles by spray-drying represents a feasible approach for the conversion of liquids into solids regarding their further use in powder technology.

Mual muntah kehamilan berdampak pada kemampuan melakukan aktivitas sehari-hari, fungsi sosial, perkembangan stres dan menyebabkan kelelahan, gangguan nutrisi, dehidrasi, kelemahan, penurunan berat badan, serta ketidakseimbangan elektrolit. Aromaterapi peppermint berefek menenangkan lambung, mengurangi mual muntah ibu hamil. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penurunan mual muntah pada ibu hamil trimester I. Desain studi kasus deskriptif dengan pendekatan proses asuhan keperawatan. Subjek studi kasus ini adalah 2 ibu hamil trimester I dengan keluhan mual muntah yang didapatkan secara purposive sampling. Metode studi kasus ini wawancara dan observasi menggunakan instrument lembar observasi PUQE-12 dengan pengambilan data sebelum dan setelah 12 jam pemberian intervensi aromaterapi peppermint selama 4 hari. Hasil penelitian didapatkan rata-rata skor PUQE-12 sebelum pemberian intervensi aromaterapi peppermint pada kedua subjek didapatkan nilai 5.75, dimana mual muntah dalam kategori ringan. Hasil penelitian didapatkan rata-rata skor PUQE-12 setelah 12 jam pemberian intervensi aromaterapi peppermint pada Ny. N yaitu 4.75, sedangkan pada Ny. R dengan hasil 4, dimana mual muntah dalam kategori ringan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian kedua subjek, disimpulkan bahwa ada pengaruh pemberian intervensi aromaterapi peppermint pada mual muntah ibu hamil trimester I.

Seaweed extracts are considered as marine biostimulants and have been successfully used in agriculture to improve the growth and tolerance to different environmental stress conditions of many crops. ...Therefore, the present study was carried out for the first time and aimed to determine the effects of a seaweed liquid extract on growth and photosynthetic performance as well as the water status of hydroponically-grown peppermint and purple basil plants. For this purpose, the experiment was conducted under greenhouse conditions and plants were cultivated in hydroponic systems according to the nutrient film technique. A seaweed liquid extract at 10% was prepared from the green marine macroalgae Ulva intestinalis and then added to the nutrient solution of the hydroponic system. Based on our experimental data, the main results have proven that Ulva intestinalis seaweed liquid extract could be successfully used as a biostimulant in the hydroponic cultivation of peppermint for its enhancing effect on some plant growth and photosynthetic as well as water status parameters. However, it is not recommended to add the seaweed liquid extract of Ulva intestinalis to the hydroponic culture of purple basil since most of the parameters analyzed were shown to be negatively affected by the seaweed liquid extract treatment. Furthermore, the results of this study could be practical for enhancing the production of medicinal and aromatic plants by adding the Ulva intestinalis seaweed liquid extract to the nutrient solution of the hydroponic system.

The scientific studies provide awareness on the use of M. × piperita for biological effects such as anti‐oxidant, anti‐microbial, anti‐viral, anti‐inflammatory, biopesticidal, larvicidal, anticancer, radioprotective effect, genotoxicity and anti‐diabetic activity have been ascribed. A wide spectrum of bioactive phytochemicals such as flavonoids, phenolics lignans and stilbenes and essential oils are expected to be responsible for the aroma effects. In this sense, this present review provides an extensive overview of the traditional medicinal, phytochemical and multiple biological activities of this “Peppermint.”

emissions. Total energy consumption for 1500, 1700, and 1900 kg batch sizes are 1379.46, 1336.58, and 1286.56 kWh, while CO
2
emissions are 1104, 1069, and 1028 kg, respectively. Maximum hourly system productivity, cumulative productivity, maximum hourly thermal efficiency, maximum extraction efficiency, and maximum EOY were obtained as 8.3 L/h, 20 L, 2%, 41.5%, and 0.461% (w/w), respectively, for 1900 kg. Average increase in total productivity, extraction efficiency, and EOY was 49.25%, 1%, and 26%, increasing in batch size from 1500 kg to 1900 kg. Extraction time and batch size have important effect (p < 0.001) on the extraction yield. Optimal process parameters are identified 300 min of extraction time and 1807.5 kg of batch size. The highest oil yield was 1.0614% under optimal conditions. Experiment was further performed for 1807.5 kg of batch size and the yield was found as 1.04621. Predicted and experimental results were found in good consistency with percentage deviation of 1.436. Therefore, this is helpful in conducting further research on optimizing process parameters for conventional distillation system of peppermint oil extraction.
In the present study, self-assembled ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized via a hydrothermal method utilizing an aqueous extract of mentha pepperita L (peppermint) leaves. The effect of parameters, ...including the amount of extract, reaction time, and pH was investigated on the structure and morphology of synthesized nanoparticles. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns confirmed the formation of pure well-crystallized ZnO nanoparticles using a zinc nitrate solution (50 mM) and peppermint extract in a volume ratio of 6:1 at pH of 8 and 12. However, the morphology and crystallite size of the particles were different in pH of 8 and 12. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra confirmed the modification of the ZnO surface with peppermint extract components. Analysis of N2 adsorption and desorption cycles showed the increment of surface area by about 5 times using peppermint extract. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images revealed the formation of a self-assembled sphere structure using peppermint extract. Mechanism of dissolution-precipitation was proposed for green hydrothermal synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles, based on XRD and SEM results at various reaction times. The synthesized ZnO nanoparticles (reaction time of 24 h and pH of 8) were used to remove methylene blue (MB) dye from an aqueous solution, and adsorption and photocatalytic process were studied. The mass of the dye adsorbed per mass of the adsorbent, qt, grew up by increasing the initial dye concentration. Conversely, the photocatalytic degradation percent decreased. In addition, the final adsorption capacity in 50 mL of 30 ppm dye solution was almost the same in 0.01 and 0.05 g of ZnO, although it was smaller in 0.1 g of ZnO. The maximum degradation efficiency was derived by using 0.05 g ZnO. Self-assembled structure, high capacity of adsorption, and excellent photocatalytic properties were unique characteristics of the synthesized ZnO nanoparticles.
This experiment was conducted to evaluate the possibility of organic cultivation of mint under different amounts of hairy woodrose and harvesting times. The experimental design was randomized ...complete blocks with the treatments arranged in 4 x 3 factorial scheme with three replicates. The first factor consisted of four amounts of hairy woodrose (0.0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 kg m-2 of dry beds) and the second factor, corresponded to three harvest bunches (30; 60 and 90 days after transplanting). The cultivar "Mentha piperita" was used as mint crop. The evaluated characteristics were the following: biomass height, biomass production, number of sauces, dry mass, oil content and yield. There was interaction between the factors-treatments for yield, number of bunches and oil content. The best productive performance of the mint was obtained in the amount of 1.0 kg/m2 of hairy woodrose incorporated into the soil at 60 days after mint transplanting (AMT). Hairy woodrose proved to be efficient as a green manuring in the mint crop.

The current study evaluated the effects of peppermint oil on the frequency of nausea, vomiting, retching, and the severity of nausea in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
A quasi-randomized controlled study.
Patients were recruited from the ambulatory chemotherapy unit of a public hospital located (Batman, Turkey) between September 2017 and September 2018.
The participants in the intervention group applied one drop the aromatic mixture on the spot between their upper lip and their nose, three times a day for the five days following chemotherapy administration, in addition to the routine antiemetic treatment. Participants in the control group underwent only the routine antiemetic treatment. Main outcome measures VAS-the severity of nausea and the Index of Nausea, Vomiting, and Retching.
The VAS nausea score was significantly lower after peppermint oil applying in the patients receiving Folfirinox (treatment effect (mean dif.): 4.00±2.28; P<0.001), Paclitaxel-Trastuzumab (treatment effect (mean dif.): 1.70±0.90; P=0.014), Carboplatin-Paclitaxel (treatment effect (mean dif.): 3.71±1.41; P<0.001), and Cyclophosphamide-Adriamycin (treatment effect (mean dif.): 1.41±0.73; P=0.005) excluding cisplatin scedule (treatment effect (mean dif.): 0.56±2,18; P=0.642). We detected a statistical significant difference in the change in frequency of nausea, vomiting, retching in the other all schedules excluding cisplatin schedule (P<0.05).
The peppermint oil was significantly reduced the frequency of nausea, vomiting, retching and the severity of nausea in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Therefore, usage of peppermint oil together with antiemetics after chemotherapy with moderate and low emetic risk may be recommended to cope with CINV.
