The objective of this study was twofold: first, to assess the empirical content and structure of farmers' perceptions of obstacles for business development, and second, to explore how individual ...differences between farmers relate to these perceptions. The study is based on survey data collected from Swedish agriculture in 2018. We estimated a latent variable representing farmers' perception of obstacles for business development using a MIMIC model approach and included measures of personal values and personality traits to the model to take into account individual differences. The findings suggest that the surveyed farmers' perceptions of obstacles for the development of their businesses centre around the following areas: access to financial resources; farm layout (in terms of physical layout of the farmyard and fields) and geographical location; consumer demand; available resources and options for farm succession. Only individual differences in terms of personality traits that relate to entrepreneurship (extraversion and openness), could be related to the perceived obstacles. The findings are useful for prioritising agricultural policy and for the design of extension and advisory services aimed at assisting farmers to develop their business – particularly in Sweden but also in regions similar to Sweden. Furthermore, the approach developed here is informative for other policy makers and advisory services interested in prioritising efforts to better support farmers' business development.
•A latent variable perceived obstacles for business development (POBD) is developed.•The empirical content and structure of farmers' POBD is assessed.•Farmers' POBD centres around the areas: resources, location, demand and succession.•Differences in farmers' POBD relate to personality traits, not to personal values.•Findings are useable for prioritising policy measures and designing advisory services.

Cíl. Cílem studie bylo prozkoumat, jaké překážky dospělí lidé vnímají při rozhodování o vstupu do psychoterapie a jak tyto překážky souvisí s rozhodnutím psychoterapii zahájit. Soubor a metoda. Respondenti, kteří zavrhli vstup do psychoterapie, byli starší, vyjadřovali větší nedůvěru k psychoterapii a vnímali ji jako více stigmatizující než ti, kdo kontaktovali terapeuta. Účastníci, kteří vstup do terapie zvažovali (ale terapeuta nekontaktovali), vykazovali nižší míru potíží a vnímali psychoterapii jako více stigmatizující než ti, kdo kontaktovali terapeuta. Omezení studie. Limity studie jsou nereprezentativnost výzkumného souboru a využití delšího časového rozmezí pro retrospektivní hodnocení úrovně potíží a významnosti překážek.

•Perceived obstacles associated with innovation inputs and outputs.•Sample from 6th-10th Chile Business Innovation Surveys.•Perceived knowledge, cooperation, and demand obstacles may ...be as important as financial ones.
The extant literature on firm-level innovation has primarily focused on the driving forces of successful innovation; thus, paying less attention to obstacles associated with innovation inputs and outputs. On the other hand, most studies on innovation impediments have concentrated on financial obstacles, overlooking other kinds of barriers as important for companies engaged in innovation. This article fills this gap by studying the impact of perceived obstacles on a set of inputs to and outputs from the innovation process. Empirical results based on the 6th-10th Chile Business Innovation Surveys confirm that perceived non-financial obstacles, such as knowledge, cooperation, market, demand, and regulation, are as important as perceived financial impediments.
Business simulation games (BSGs) enhance learning, since they actively involve students in the educational process through game playing. They began to play important role in business education in ...many universities in Croatia. However, quantitative information on their usage in higher educational institutions (HEIs) in Croatia is still scarce. Goals of the paper are to explore: (1) differences among BSGs users and non-users according to demographic characteristics, (2) differences among BSGs users and non-users according to perceived obstacles of BSGs usage, and (3) impact of both demographic characteristics and perceived obstacles on the decision on usage or not-usage of BSGs. A survey was taken in business and economics departments of HEIs in Croatia. A regression model has been used to test the impact of demographic characteristics of educators and the perceived obstacles to the usage of BSGs in educational practice. Results indicate that BSGs usage is currently at a low level, mainly due to the lack of funds and management support. Academic rank, gender, and attitude toward new technologies also impact BSGs usage.

Objectives. The study aimed to explore which barriers adult people perceive when deciding whether to enter psychotherapy and how these barriers influence their decision to start psycho-therapy.Sample and setting. The sample consisted of 392 adult respondents who considered entering individual psychotherapy during the last five years. They completed a questionnaire on per-ceived barriers to entering psychotherapy, the phase of decision-making, and the severity of psychological symptoms.Hypotheses. This was an exploratory study with the following questions: a) What is the per-ceived importance of specific barriers to enter-ing psychotherapy? b) What groups (principal components) of barriers to entering psychother-apy can be identified? c) What is the relationship between the perceived importance of barriers and the decision to enter psychotherapy?Statistical analysis. The number of barriers was reduced using PCA. The relationship of the decision-making phase to other variables was explored via multinomial regression analysis.Results. The most severe barrier to entering psychotherapy were price, reluctance to express emotions in front of others and the assumption that one’s problems were not as severe as the problems of people in psychotherapy. Respond-ents who decided not to enter psychotherapy were older, expressed more distrust of psycho-therapy, and perceived it as more stigmatizing than those who contacted a therapist. Respond-ents who decided to enter psychotherapy (but who had not contacted a therapist) had less se-vere symptoms and perceived psychotherapy as more stigmatizing than those who contacted a therapist. Study limitations. Limits of the study include a non-representative sample and the time window used for the retrospective rating of symptoms and barriers.
