Pandemic related changes have radically altered the delivery of medical teaching. The practical skills of medicine which students should be proficient in at time of graduation have tended to require in-person tutelage, with reduced access resulting in the risk of skill deficits in newly qualified doctors. Small group teaching sessions are amenable to a virtual mode of delivery, with the ability of the virtual platform to confer practical skills unproven. The objective of the study was to evaluate the use of teleproctoring in acquisition of suturing skills in medical students.
This was a single blinded two- armed randomized control trial. Medical students undergoing clinical rotations in their penultimate and final years who were able to complete the suturing tutorial were invited to participate in this study. Control groups underwent conventional suturing training under direct supervision, with the interventional group undergoing the tutorial in a remote learning setting via live streaming. Pre- and post-test assessment was carried out using validated suturing Global Rating Scale tool.
A total of 24 participants were recruited, with 23 participants completing the task. Adequacy of sampling was demonstrated in both groups using Box's M test (P = 0.9). Participants’ individual and composite scores were comparable at baseline (P = 0.28) and following the tutorial (P = 0.52). Participants improved to a statistically significant degree regardless of method of teaching delivery, in all skill parameters (P < 0.001).
Teleproctoring is an effective tool in the provision of teaching basic suturing skills in medical students. Research on its use in more complex practical skills is warranted.

Practical skills are complex procedures integrating communication and caring, as well as technical and manual aspects. Simulation at a simulation/skills center offers a wide range of learning activities and aims to imitate patient situations.
To investigate the international research literature on practical skills learning in simulation/skills centers in nursing education. Research questions: 1. What are the range and type of practical skills studied? 2. What learning activities are focused on in the studies included in the review? 3. What are the learning outcomes and how are they assessed?
Narrative review.
We searched electronically and included studies from Medline Ovid, CINAHL, Eric, Embase, Academic Search Premiere, and Cochrane. Unique indexing terms and search strategies were developed for each database. The criteria for inclusion were bachelor nursing students as the study population and practical nursing skills learning in simulation/skills centers. We used Rayyan QCRIt for the initial screening and the Mixed Method Appraisal Tool for quality assessment. We used a narrative approach to synthesize the diverse range of studies.
One hundred and twenty-one studies from 26 countries published between January 2013 and March 2022 were included. The amount of quantitative research was overwhelming (n = 108). A total of 50 different practical skills were represented. The studies focused on which learning modalities resulted in the best learning outcomes. Only 8.5% (n = 7) of the included studies concerned students’ learning processes. Skill performance (n = 101), knowledge (n = 57), confidence (n = 34), and satisfaction (n = 32) were the main learning outcomes measured.
The quality assessment indicated that 10 of the studies achieved 100% on the mixed method appraisal tool criteria. In many of the studies with quasi-experimental and randomized controlled trial designs, the intervention group received some form of educational treatment while the control group received no treatment. The choice of no treatment for the control group in pedagogical research seems to disregard the inherent purpose and effect of teaching and learning.
Heterogeneity in the use of learning modalities and measuring instruments precludes the possibility of building on other research. Technical skills were the preferred choice of skill, while skills that involved a fair measure of communication and collaboration were only sparingly studied. Students’ learning processes were barely touched on in the included studies. More focus should be placed on this area in further research, since the choice of learning modalities may affect the students’ learning processes in significant ways.
The PURPOSE of this research is for a survey to be conducted among the students of the Faculty of Public Health “Prof. Tzekomir Vodenicharov, МD, DSc” at Medical University – Sofia to study whether ...they are satisfied with how hybrid teaching has been organized in the Department of Health Economics. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An anonymous questionnaire survey was conducted. Out of all students who were invited to participate, 309 joined. The questionnaire was distributed through the Google Forms platform from June to October 2022. Chi-Quadrant analysis was used in order to find relationships between categorical variables. RESULTS: the result shows a statistically significant connection between the students who are studying different specialties in the FPH and their satisfaction with the organization of the hybrid classes carried out by the Department (p <0.001). From the participants’ responses, it is clear that the implementation of hybrid form of teaching (in-person classes for practical training and online classes for theoretical study) carried out through open educational resources and implementing innovative teaching methodology is preferred by the students. CONCLUSION: The scientific evidence arising from our empirical research can aid in the development of guidelines for practical improvement of the hybrid teaching organization in disciplines taught in the Department. The conclusions drawn presuppose continuous research with proper methodologies applied.
AimImplementation of Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) Pediatric Guideline and it’s adaptation to Ukrainian legislation is very actual because of full-scale military aggression. The aim was to ...study the effectiveness of approaches to training medical workers, educators and other interested civilians according to the TECC Pediatric Guidelines.Material and MethodThe research was conducted during September 2022 - April 2023. The training program was based on the recommendations of the Committee TECC, the American College of Surgeons and current guidelines of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. About 300 participants completed the free course. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the training, we developed tests and situational tasks that were used as input and final control. An anonymous questionnaire was used to determine the level of satisfaction of participants regarding the accessibility of teaching material, the possibility of mastering practical skills, etc.ResultsAll participants successfully mastered practical skills and were able to demonstrate their correct implementation. An analysis of the most frequent mistakes made when performing situational tasks showed: the rescuer was not sure of his own safety and began to provide help in the danger zone (19.66%); the rescuer did not call an EMS in time (30.77%); the rescuer applied a tourniquet to the victim in the absence of signs of massive bleeding (12.82%); the rescuer moved the victim unnecessarily after the road accident (14.53%). All respondents believed that the knowledge gained at the training was new and useful for them, and that they would recommend this training to their friends and colleaguesConclusionsThe applied methods of active learning and working out practical skills showed effectiveness both in terms of learning outcomes and in terms of participant satisfaction.
Purpose: to analyze the first experience of administering Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) for the students (studs) enrolled in the master's degree program majoring in physical ...therapy at National University of Ukraine on Physical Education and Sport. Material and methods. The survey included 21 examiners (examrs) and 46 studs involved in OSCE administering. The questionnaire consisted of the questions assessing the quality of station equipment, clarity of the exam format, other aspects. Results. All the examrs informed of total clarity of the examination format, but only 13 (61.9%) of them noted a similar level of clarity for the studs. Тhe examrs identified 3 main reasons for unsuccessful attempts to perform a skill/task: insufficient training, new format of checking knowledge/examination, slightly different focus of training. The distribution of answers concerning the clarity of the format of the examination and its tasks provided by the studs did not differ statistically from those provided by the teachers. The vast maj ority of the examrs indicated that the skills were of sufficient difficulty for the purpose of the examination. 5 examrs had significant difficulties assessing skill performance according to the provided form, while 7 of them had slight difficulties and the rest had no difficulties. The majority of the studs noted that the number of stations and equipment was sufficient (no statistical differences were determined between the answers of the studs and the examrs). Conclusions. The survey revealed the need for introducing certain changes in OSCE assessment form, in the educational program, conducting special preparatory classes for studs. The obtained results can be used to improve the development of OSCE in physical therapy in Ukraine.

This study is based on a ...survey conducted on a sample of 77 students participating in international internships. The survey covered all students of the Technical and Vocational Schools Complex in Suwałki attending vocational internships in Italy.
The analysis validated the hypothesis that international internships improve the practical skills of secondary school students and contribute to the development of practical skills and social competences in the international context.
The surveyed students declared they were satisfied with their vocational internships and were happy to attend them. They believed that the experience gained in an international environment would definitely have a positive impact on their future career. During the internship, they improved not only the skills specific to their field of expertise, but also their personal and social competences, as well as foreign language skills, specifically in terms of technical vocabulary.
