Inorganic phosphate (Pi) starvation severely affects the normal growth and development of plants. Here, a Pi-responsive gene, named MdMYB2 (MDP0000823458), was cloned and functionally identified in ...apple. Overexpression of MdMYB2 regulated the expression of Pi starvation-induced (PSI) genes and then promoted phosphate assimilation and utilization. The ectopic expression of MdMYB2 in Arabidopsis influenced plant growth and flowering, which was partially rescued by application of exogenous gibberellin (GA). These results indicated that MdMYB2 may be an essential regulator in phosphate utilization and GA-regulated plant growth and development.

•Polyaspartamide (PA)-encapsulated SPIONs as nano-heaters for hyperthermia therapy.•Enhancing biocompatibility and cellular uptake due to biotin functional group.•Effective cancer ...killing in both in vitro and in vivo hyperthermia experiments.•These results will open further potential for cancer treatment in the future.
We report a delicate synthesis process of polyaspartamide-encapsulated superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (PA-encapsulated SPIONs) with their sufficiently obtained grain-size below 100 nm for hyperthermia application. Iron oxide nanoparticles with a high magnetization have been applied as nano-heaters while polyaspartamide (PA) is a biocompatible and biodegradable polymer with a polysuccinimide (PSI) backbone. Multi-functional polymer PA could be conjugated with other groups such as biotin to enhance the uptake capability by receptors of cancer cells. Consequently, encapsulating SPIONs nano-heaters with PA biopolymer is an attractive roadmap for hyperthermia therapy application. Our results revealed that PA-encapsulated SPIONs showed excellent biocompatible behavior based on cell viability test. With Prussian blue staining of cancer cells (4T1), cellular uptake of PA-encapsulated SPIONs was significantly increased in the presence of biotin conjugated on the outer shell. Furthermore, PA-encapsulated SPIONs exhibited effective cancer killing activities in both in vitro and in vivo hyperthermia experiments. Therefore, PA-encapsulated SPIONs might have potential for hyperthermia therapy.
Abstract The performance effect of construction on energy conservation substantially depends upon application of correct materials and energy saving methodologies. A sizable financial impact is ...accomplished through insulated walls. The criteria explaining the present wall insulating material options may have different values. Furthermore, they may alter in different aspects, i.e. higher values of certain criteria show a preferable status, while for others they denote an inferior status. In this framework, a variant of compromise is needed, which can be situated through multi-criteria assessment methodologies. To diminish the effect of different methodologies on computational results, few diverse techniques can be considered, with descriptions of the mean predicted values. Thus, drawbacks of certain multi-criteria assessment techniques could be compensated through others. A hybrid methodology through the combination of individual techniques will be accurate if there is a relationship between the values determined through diverse methodologies. In this study, the most efficient insulation material used at external walls is selected by using PSI-CRITIC based CoCoSo Method. The analytical results are important both from financial and engineering point of views as the applied methodology is commercially viable and practically implementable. Precise and up-to-date material properties are derived from the leading companies in the sector.
Nowadays, the necessity of electronic information increases rapidly. As a consequence, often, that information needs to be shared among mutually distrustful parties. In this area, private set ...intersection (PSI) and its variants play an important role when the participants wish to do secret operations on their input sets. Unlike the most modern public key cryptosystems relying on number theoretic problems, lattice-based cryptographic constructions provide security in the presence of a quantum computer. Consequently, developing PSI and its variants using lattice based cryptosystem becomes an interesting direction for research. This study presents the first size-hiding post quantum PSI cardinality (PSI-CA) protocol whose complexity is linear in the size of the sets of the participants. The authors use space-efficient probabilistic data structure (Bloom filter) as its building block. Further, they extend the authors’ PSI-CA to its authorised version, i.e. authorised PSI-CA. Security for both of them is achieved in the standard model based on the hardness of the decisional learning with errors problem.
In this paper, two Persistent Scatterer Interferometry (PSI) methodologies are compared in order to further understand their potential in the detection of surface deformation. A comparison of these ...two algorithms is a comparison of the two classes of PSI techniques available: coherence estimation based on a temporal model of deformation (represented by DePSI) and coherence estimation based on spatial correlation (represented by StaMPS).
Despite the similarity between the results obtained from the application of the two independent PSI methodologies, significant differences in PS density and distribution were detected, motivating a comparative study between both techniques. We analyze which approach might be more appropriate for studying specific areas/environments, which is helpful in evaluating the benefits that could be derived from an integration of the two methodologies. Several experiments are performed to assess the sensitivity of both PSI approaches to different parameter settings and circumstances. The most significant differences in the processing chain of both procedures are then investigated. We apply both methodologies to the Granada Basin area (southern Spain) and realize that coherence does not improve significantly as function of the methodology applied. If oversampling is implemented in the StaMPS processing chain, the PS density increases so that the density in the urbanized areas is similar to the results provided by DePSI but in all the remaining covers the density is significantly higher. The general results provided by both approaches are very similar in the relative deformations estimated.
► Identification of the main differences between two PSI approaches (DePSI/StaMPS). ► Detailed comparison exploiting the main differences detected. ► PS processing part of each methodology was analyzed and evaluated. ► Evaluation of the potentialities and benefits derived from the integration.

The beam energy measurement system (BEMS) at the upgraded Beijing Electron-Positron Collider (BEPCII) is designed to provide beam energy value with the relative error at the level of 5×10−5. The ...obvious energy deviation found during J/ψ resonance scan in 2012 leads to great amount of investigations on both BEPCII and BEMS sides. The reasons causing such an unexpected difference are figured out, which include the neutron damage to HPGe detector, the leakage of RF cavity, and the background from Linac. Based on a series of measures, the ψ(3686) line shape scan is designed and performed, the experimental result indicates that BEMS can measure the beam energy with the claimed accuracy. The afterward performance of BEMS is smooth and stable, and BEMS will play a crucial role in the following high accurate experiments.
To improve the spatial density of measurement points of persistent-scatterer interferometry, distributed scatterer (DS) should be considered and processed. An important procedure in DS interferometry ...is the phase triangulation (PT). This letter introduces two modified PT algorithms (i.e., equal-weighted PT and coherence-weighted PT) and analyzes the mathematical relations between different published PT methods (i.e., the maximum-likelihood phase estimator, least squares estimator, and eigendecomposition-based phase estimators). The analysis shows that the above five PT methods share very similar mathematical forms with different weight values in the estimation procedure.
Chordomas are rare, locally aggressive, malignant tumors. Surgical resection with sufficient margins defines the outcome. However, the necessity for wide margins often leads to sacrifice of important ...neurological structures. 3D-printed osteotomy guides are a promising solution for precise execution of surgical resection. We present probably the first sacrococcygeal chordoma resection with 3D-printed guides.
The case of a 49-year-old woman with a sacrococcygeal chordoma, resected with help of 3-D pre-operative planning and patient-specific 3D-printed osteotomy guides, is reported in detail.
A sufficient tumor excision could be performed successfully while sparing nerve root S4. The planed margin has been exactly maintained, as confirmed by histology. The patient demonstrated an excellent clinical outcome with no evidence of local recurrence.
3-D pre-operative planning and patient-specific osteotomy guides can be used for planning and performing en-bloc surgical resection of sacral chordomas.
The accuracy of orthognathic surgery has improved with three-dimensional virtual planning. The translation of the planning to the surgical result is reported to vary by >2mm. The aim of this ...randomized controlled multi-centre trial was to determine whether the use of splintless patient-specific osteosynthesis can improve the accuracy of maxillary translation. Patients requiring a Le Fort I osteotomy were included in the trial. The intervention group was treated using patient-specific osteosynthesis and the control group with conventional osteosynthesis and splint-based positioning. Fifty-eight patients completed the study protocol, 27 in the patient-specific osteosynthesis group and 31 in the control group. The per protocol median anteroposterior deviation was found to be 1.05mm (interquartile range (IQR) 0.45–2.72mm) in the patient-specific osteosynthesis group and 1.74mm (IQR 1.02–3.02mm) in the control group. The cranial–caudal deviation was 0.87mm (IQR 0.49–1.44mm) and 0.98mm (IQR 0.28–2.10mm), respectively, whereas the left–right translation deviation was 0.46mm (IQR 0.19–0.96mm) in the patient-specific osteosynthesis group and 1.07mm (IQR 0.62–1.55mm) in the control group. The splintless patient-specific osteosynthesis method improves the accuracy of maxillary translations in orthognathic surgery and is clinically relevant for planned anteroposterior translations of more than 3.70mm.
The yeast prion PSI+ is a self-propagating amyloid of the translation termination factor, Sup35p. For known pathogenic prions, such as PSI+, a single protein can form an array of different amyloid ...structures (prion variants) each stably inherited and with differing biological properties. The ribosome-associated chaperones, Ssb1/2p (Hsp70s), and RAC (Zuo1p (Hsp40) and Ssz1p (Hsp70)), enhance de novo protein folding by protecting nascent polypeptide chains from misfolding and maintain translational fidelity by involvement in translation termination. Ssb1/2p and RAC chaperones were previously found to inhibit PSI+ prion generation. We find that most PSI+ variants arising in the absence of each chaperone were cured by restoring normal levels of that protein. PSI+ variants hypersensitive to Ssb1/2p have distinguishable biological properties from those hypersensitive to Zuo1p or Ssz1p. The elevated PSI+ generation frequency in each deletion strain is not due to an altered PIN+, another prion that primes PSI+ generation. PSI+ prion generation/propagation may be inhibited by Ssb1/2/RAC chaperones by ensuring proper folding of nascent Sup35p, thus preventing its joining amyloid fibers. Alternatively, the effect of RAC/Ssb mutations on translation termination and the absence of an effect on the URE3 prion suggest an effect on the mature Sup35p such that it does not readily join amyloid filaments. Ssz1p is degraded in zuo1Δ psi- cells, but not if the cells carry any of several PSI+ variants. Our results imply that prions arise more frequently than had been thought but the cell has evolved exquisite antiprion systems that rapidly eliminate most variants.
