The purpose of this scientific study is to analyze and answer the problems that exist in the assessment of class XI Arabic books published by the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia in ...2020, especially on language receptive skills, which consist of listening and reading skills. This research was studied using qualitative methods and literature studies to collect data. Primary data comes from Arabic books published by the Ministry of Religion in class XI in 2020, while secondary data comes from literature documents that are relevant to the research. The results of the analysis show that receptive language skills have been assessed and are included in the realm of knowledge. In fact, receptive skills (reading and listening) must be included in language skills, while aspects of language knowledge can be obtained from language elements. Therefore, an authentic assessment is needed that positions receptive skills in the assessment of skills, which at the same time can assess linguistic elements in the knowledge aspect without forgetting the attitude aspect by assessing portfolios, assignments, performance, and interviews that are tailored to needs. The implementation of L2-medium education, exemplified by Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), is becoming increasingly popular in primary schools (García Mayo, 2021). While previous ...research highlights CLIL's positive impact on linguistic competence (Jiménez-Catalán & Ruiz de Zarobe, 2009), differences in linguistic achievement are often associated with varying exposure hours (Pladevall-Ballester & Vallbona, 2016). Despite CLIL's growing popularity, studies examining linguistic achievement in varying-intensity CLIL programs remain scant. We address this gap by comparing low and high-intensity CLIL programs, alongside a standard English as a foreign language (EFL) program in primary schools. Focused on 11-year-olds' receptive skills, our results show that high-intensity programs significantly enhance proficiency in listening and reading when compared to their lower-intensity counterparts. Distinctions between low-intensity and EFL programs are non-significant. These findings underscore the critical role of the intensity of exposure in shaping the effectiveness of CLIL programs and contribute insights for refining CLIL program design guidelines.
The rapid advancement in video technologies in recent years has made the creating and editing of subtitles for a video increasingly feasible. For a long time, however, the pedagogical potentials of ...subtitling in language teaching and learning have been neglected. To fill this gap, this technology review introduces VisualSubSync, a free and flexible tool for subtitle editing, as a practical instrument to facilitate the teaching of listening and viewing skills. This review first provides an overview of the main features of the software and then discusses the possible benefits it offers to listening and viewing pedagogies in the English-as-a-foreign-language classroom. Finally, the challenges that teachers and learners may face with subtitling are considered.

Neuro- Linguistic Programming is one of the methods to catch up the English by giving focus on the brain anatomy. Brain anatomy can motive the creativity as well as the skills of using language. It also exist the role of Neuro Linguistic Programming in teaching the Receptive skills of English, which could make the students to improve the Receptive skills such as listening and reading. The study, in short, affirms that NLP strategies could be quite efficacious in making the students procure the skills that are indispensable in workplaces effortlessly. As it involves teaching a reading comprehension course by NLP concepts and techniques, the approach used in this study is experimental. In addition, the experimental method involves pre-and post-tests conducted before and after the course by the control group (40 students) and the experimental group (40 students). The students of the experimental community are chosen from the secondary school students. After the NLP experimentation, it was revealed from the study that there was a significant difference in the level of the experimental group in pre and post-test.
The research investigated the influence of metacognitive awareness on receptive skills in higher education students. Moreover, participants’ level of metacognitive awareness was also taken into ...account. The research utilized a survey in the form of Metacognitive Awareness Listening Questionnaire (MALQ) and Metacognitive Awareness Reading Strategy Inventory (MARSI) and test of listening and reading comprehension to collect the data and multiple regression to analyze it. The participants were 59 English educational students in the first semester of a public university in Yogyakarta. The finding shows there is a significant influence of metacognitive awareness on receptive skills. However, there is the only significant influence of metacognitive awareness on reading skills. In contrast, there is no significant influence of metacognitive awareness on listening skills. Most of the students are categorized at a high level of metacognitive awareness in listening and reading. However, they have relatively poor scores in the D and E categories for both listening and reading comprehension tests. The only skill which has a significant influence on metacognitive awareness is reading skills. Therefore, the findings show that there is no significant influence of metacognitive awareness on listening skills. However, there is a significant influence of metacognitive awareness on reading skills. Further research needs to be conducted to reveal the different influences between reading and listening skills related to metacognitive awareness, as found in the research.
This study compared receptive English grammar skills of two groups of 7‐ and 9‐year‐old Danish children at the beginning of second language (L2) instruction in English, and two groups of ...Spanish/Catalan children of the same age after several years of instruction. The study examined the influence of two language‐related factors (receptive vocabulary skills, cognate linguistic distance) and two context‐related factors (amount of formal instruction, frequency of exposure to English outside school), additionally focusing on the gender variable. Results revealed that the amount of formal instruction had a lesser role in the children's receptive grammar knowledge than cognate linguistic distance and out‐of‐school contact with English (particularly with audiovisual material). These factors may explain why Danish children's receptive knowledge of English prior to school instruction is largely similar to that of Spanish children after several years of instruction, revealing a sharp contrast in their respective starting points for L2 learning.
As the English language is accepted globally, it becomes a challenge for the teachers to learn the new theories and practices and get updated as per the requirements and needs of the learners. It is ...very necessary to know the needs of the learners in order to help them or push them towards learning. Knowing your learners’ needs means half of the work has been done, the only thing the teacher has to do is to select the methods and apply the appropriate strategies in the classrooms. The existing practice of teaching English in the classroom does not offer much to the students to practice receptive and productive skills in real-life situations. The present study focus on developing language skills by using different strategies and activities in real-life classroom situation to enhance the language skills of the learners. The study uses a quantitative method to collect data from the respondents through a questionnaire developed by the researcher. The questionnaire was based on a five-point Likert scale and the reliability and validity were tested through SPSS version 20. The Cronbach alpha was tested and the results were satisfactory. The findings of the study clearly show that if the strategies and method of pedagogy in the classroom will be changed to more learners-centred and activity-based, the learning outcomes will be better and language skills were enhanced.
Content and language integrated learning (CLIL) is a major area of interest within the field of formal education. There are numerous studies presenting data and results of CLIL implementation. The ...positive impacts have been reported in building positive attitudes to language learning, to content subject learning, increasing efficacy of language learning. Questions have been raised about the factors that (may) affect research results and their interpretation. Many small studies bring statistically non-significant data as they use small convenience samples. Meta-analyses enable the researchers to synthesise data from research with the same characteristics. The present article analyses the studies that focus on CLIL implementation at primary and secondary schools with special focus on receptive skills and vocabulary gains. Out of 385 selected studies were 9 included and applying randomised-effect model evaluated. The analysis found no statistically significant differences between the CLIL and EFL groups in listening and reading performance. Concerning vocabulary the statistically significant difference in favour of CLIL (p<0,0001) with overall estimate effect 0,84 and confidence interval ranging from 0,56 to 1,11 was observed.
