Natsir M, Ulya Z, Fitriani R. 2022. Mangrove forest utilization policies reconceptualized with a view to improving the regional economy in Aceh Tamiang District, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 23: ...6570-6578. One of the Aceh's (Indonesia) districts with mangrove forests is Aceh Tamiang District. Manyak Payeud, Bendahara, Seureuwey, and Banda Mulia are the four sub-district in the Aceh Tamiang region that have the most potential tourist sites. However, due to the widespread illegal logging of mangroves carried out by the community to suit their daily requirements, the preservation of mangrove forests in the four sub-districts above is seriously damaged. As a result of illegal logging, mangroves are becoming less common in Aceh Tamiang District. Therefore, a unique policy, which can incorporate both community needs and economic development, is needed to manage the mangroves of Aceh Taminga District. The expectation is that mangrove management will enable Aceh Tamiang District to develop tourist attractions in this study. The normative juridical research methodology with SWOT analysis was applied in this study to understand the potential of mangrove management in improving the regional Economy in Aceh Tamiang District. The findings of this study are based on a SWOT analysis of four subdistricts in Aceh Tamiang District. The result suggests that the notion of forestry policy can support both local community interests and regional economic development. Additionally, it can be carried out through the Village Qanun to raise community awareness of the need to maintain and manage mangroves to enable the implementation of regional plans. To harmonize the understanding of the significance of mangroves as one of the regional tourist destinations, institutional coordination between the Aceh Tamiang district government and the provincial and central governments can also be used to realize the development of Aceh Tamiang tourism policies.
Regional economy-environment-tourism is an open system with complex structure and coupling characteristics. Tourism is the key link among the three subsystems for coordinating the regional economy ...and ecological environment. The analysis of the coupling coordination relationship among the three subsystems in islands is of great significance for promoting the sustainable development of the regional island tourism. This paper proposes a conceptual index system using entropy weight method and coupling coordination degree model for analysis of the coupling coordination relationship among the regional economy, ecological environment and island tourism. After that, the paper introduces an obstacle degree model to identify the obstacle factors of coordinated development in each island district. This framework is applied to eleven island districts in eastern China's Zhejiang Province during 2008–2018. The results show that the temporal changes of the coupling coordination relationship among economy, environment and tourism in eleven island districts are quite satisfactory, while the regional differences are large. Although the obstacle factors of coordinated development in each district are distinct, most of them tend to be environmental subsystem. Based on the results of analysis, this paper finally puts forward several policy recommendations to provide a referential path for the sustainable development of island tourism.

The current life of Europe and the world differs significantly from the past. Strong restrictions are imposed on the release of carbon emissions into the atmosphere. European politicians widely ...proclaim the ideas of a green transition which must lead to a carbon-neutral European economy. In this transition, scientific and research centres will play an important role. Trakia University has specialists with broad and varied expertise. This factor may exercise a significant influence on the green transition. The aim of the present report is to analyze the structure of the regional economy in the region of Stara Zagora and on this basis to present the potential solutions which Trakia University may offer at a local and national level.
This paper first reviews studies on the impacts of air-HSR competition on airlines, focusing on the overall effects of parallel HSR services on passengers' mode choice as well as on airlines’ flight ...frequency, traffic volume, fares, service quality and market power. The modal complementarity and air-HSR intermodal services, together with the network feature of airline business, are also examined. The paper then reviews theoretical and empirical findings on the impacts of HSR on airports and regional economies. Here, the main insights include: First, HSR can have a traffic redistribution effect on airport traffic; in particular, some primary hub airports with good air connectivity may gain traffic while others may lose traffic. Second, to mitigate congestion at hub airports, policy makers may consider diverting some traffic to regional airports by promoting air-HSR intermodal services. Third, as HSR may stimulate long-haul/international air traffic, its overall impact on emission reduction remains unclear. Finally, similar to the impacts on airport traffic, spatial disparity of economic activities may also rise after the introduction of HSR. In general, the disparity tends to rise between the cities with HSR and those without HSR, as the former gets better accessibility. However, among the cities with HSR services, the disparity between the large and small cities could increase or decrease depending on several factors.
•Impacts of high-speed rail on airlines and airports are reviewed.•HSR can have a traffic redistribution effect on airport traffic.•Spatial disparity of economic activities may rise after the introduction of HSR.•The disparity tends to rise between the cities with HSR and those without HSR.
•Entrepreneur industry choice has a significant impact on young firm revenue growth.•State economic condition has no direct impact on young firms revenue growth.•Entrepreneur industry choice is more ...important in a declining regional economy.
This study examines the impact of environmental munificence on young firm revenue growth. One hundred and ninety young U.S.-based firms from 42 states are studied for their growth over a three-year period. Specifically, we find that the environmental munificence in terms of entrepreneur’s selected industry has a significant impact on young firms’ revenue growth but the state’s economic condition has no such impact. However, the positive effect of industry growth on young firms’ revenue growth is significantly stronger in states with declining GDP. The findings suggest that state economy may not be as important for starting a business for its revenue growth, and the choice of industry for the business is more important in a declining regional economy than has been previously understood.
•DPSIR theory is used to analyze the coupling coordination mechanism among systems.•An evaluation index system of coupling coordinated development is proposed.•A CCD evaluation model optimized by ...information entropy is further constructed.•The characteristics of CCD in time and spatial dimension are analyzed.•Optimal strategies for the provinces in the YREB are put forward.
The interaction between regional energy, economy and ecology system has the characteristics of high correlation and complexity. In-depth study of the relationship between the three systems is of great significance for regional sustainable development. In this paper, DPSIR (driving forces, pressures, states, impacts and responses) theory is innovatively introduced to analyze the coupling coordination mechanism among systems. On this basis, an evaluation system for the coupling coordination development of regional energy-economy-ecology system is proposed. A coupling coordination degree (CCD) evaluation model optimized by information entropy is further constructed, and the panel data of 11 provinces along the Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB) from 2008 to 2017 are used for empirical analysis of this region. The results show that the development of the energy and economy systems in the YREB has strong similarities, while the evaluation values of ecology systems in the provinces mainly fluctuate or first descend then rise. The development of the ecology system is influenced by the development of energy system and economy system on the one hand, and also by regional policies on the other hand. The CCD on the time dimension is given priority to with fluctuations rise development momentum, on the spatial dimension is roughly east high and west low development pattern. And the main factors restricting the coupling coordinated development of the YREB are different in the east, central and west. The three eastern provinces all belong to the type of ecology lag, while the four provinces in the central region belong to economy lagged. The development of energy and economy systems in the four western provinces lags behind their ecology systems. In addition, this paper proposes optimal strategies for the provinces, in which the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River should reduce energy consumption per unit of GDP and accelerate the transformation from traditional economy to green economy. The downstream region should improve the ecological carrying capacity of the resources and environment, and promote the economic conversion rate of scientific and technological achievements. The research process and results show that the combination of DPSIR theory and CCD model can provide a general tool for determining the coupling coordinated effect between subsystems.

Air pollution is not only an environmental problem, but also an economic problem. Faced with the deteriorating air pollution, the role of financial institutions is increasingly valued. Because ...different air pollutants come from diverse sources, the same economic means have different impacts. To investigate this question, this paper adopts difference-in-differences to test China's green finance policy issued in 2017. The results indicate that green finance policy is capable of controlling overall situation of air pollution. As for the specific six pollutants, it shows superiority in reducing SO2, NO2 and PM2.5, but inferiority in reducing CO, O3 and PM10. Besides, the control effects of green finance policy are through local companies' economic behaviors. Compared with the economically developed regions, the emission reduction effects of green finance policy in the economically underdeveloped regions are better. These findings offer references for how to control air pollution with economic means from the perspective of micro practice.
•Pilot provinces have taken the lead in exploring green finance.•Air pollution is not only an environmental problem, but also an economic problem.•The green finance policy can reduce the air pollution.•The effect of green finance is better in the underdeveloped regions.
