LGC has developed a method for analysing low-level DNA samples called DNA SenCE (Sensitive Capillary Electrophoresis) based on post-PCR treatment of standard 28-cycle SGMplus PCR product and ...demonstrated to be equally effective at enhancing profiles as 34-cycle PCR. The method has been validated and accredited and used in casework since July 2007. Inherent in the method is the initial generation of a standard 28-cycle SGMplus profile so a direct comparison of standard and DNA SenCE results for all casework is possible. Here we review DNA SenCE casework, reporting the magnitude of peak enhancement and stochastic effects seen in the DNA SenCE profiles.
On in-service training for teachers, it is very important that learners (teachers) can improve their educational practice in school as a result of the training. However, it is difficult to make sure ...whether learners could do that or not on the customary type of training occasion where learners are gathered once at a certain place. On the other hand, a distance training course seems to be effective and suitable for teachers, since it enable them to keep on a certain period of learning with daily practice of teaching. Thus, in this study, we developed a distance training course for teachers which fulfilled three types of requirements about a theme and assigned work, interactions among participants and course management, in order to make teachers possible to link their learning to the improvement of their practice continuously. In our course, learners were required to make plans for their lesson and put it into practice in school according to the theme assigned by the instructor, and the opportunities and system environments for interactions between a learner and the instructor or other learners were set up in process of learning. It was suggested through the evaluation data collected in two years that the fulfillment of above requirements promoted learning in the course, furthermore, the following conditions were important to effective implementation of this course: the theme and assigned work of the course has both generality applicable to all learners' practice and capability of concretization applicable to each learner's practice, and the course manager makes an effort to stimulate interactions among participants in a corresponding manner to each learning stage in the course and lead to a sense of community among learners by encouraging informal conversations as well as formal ones on BBS.
This study investigated how viewing a variety of different combination of pair-planting affects the psychological and physiological reactions of Chinese male individuals, and compare to Koreans, ...Americans and Japanese. For this purpose, eye movement and impression evaluation of 28 Chinese male individuals were collected. The evidences confirmed that Chinese individuals prefer looking at the trees but not the interval space between them. This behavior is similar to American and Korean subjects but differ to Japanese who paid comparatively more attention to the interval space. The results show that, Chinese participants are highly sensitive to size of trees, whereby, they paid more attention for the big trees as compared to the small ones. Impression evaluation showed Chinese participants preferred symmetrical tree pair-planting rather than other patterns, and dislike different sized pair-planting just like Americans and Koreans. On the other hand, a quite number of Japanese subjects preferred asymmetrical pair-planting. Thus, visual cognitive characteristics is considered to be correlated with preference: tree concentrated visual attention correlated to symmetrical tree pair-planting preference, while interval space visual attention correlated to asymmetrical pair-planting preference. Moreover, in case of Chinese subjects, unbalanced visual attention related to negative evaluation especially when the pair-planting is asymmetrical.
Life became convenient thanks to the information infrastructure that had improved and developed. On the other hand, it is very weak at the disaster such as large earthquakes. Therefore, it is ...necessary to construct a strong network in the disaster. And also, the function to collect required information, such as an evacuation route and a fire situation, automatically according to a disaster situation is required. This paper proposes two techniques, the technique for conquering the down of the network link at the time of a calamity and the technique of collecting required information automatically according to the situation. This paper builds network intelligence by using these techniques to make the refuge support system at the time of a calamity, and shows the validity of this system by conducting a fire drill experiment.
