This article focuses on the impacts of colonialism on Kamoro reproduction and sexuality. Drawing on fieldwork conducted in Mimika regency, we show how colonial interventions directly and indirectly ...changed systems, practices and norms that guided Kamoro sexuality and reproduction. We see this as a form of reproductive abandonment. Most elders recall only negative aspects of precolonial sexuality-their perspectives shaped by the punishments of the Dutch period (1926-1962). In the Indonesian era, people argue that in-migration and the mining economy have fundamentally changed courtship and sexuality and further disrupted Kamoro systems. Christianity and Indonesian 'shame culture' encourage younger people to blame their sexual behaviour on societal problems. Disputation over these perspectives by older Kamoro reveals how reproductive abandonment can be contested. Addressing the misconceptions, stigma and assumptions about Kamoro cultural practices is necessary for a contemporary healing process. We highlight the essential role of West Papuan knowledge production to correct hegemonic epistemologies.
Recent years have witnessed an increase in the number of academic studies on the impact of technological advancements on human life, including possible transformations and changes in human sexuality ...following the development of sex-related devices, such as sex robots. In this context, terms such as posthuman sexuality, digisexuality, and techno-sexuality have emerged, signaling possible new understandings of sexual, intimacy, and emotional practices. It is important to note that ancient history shows that humankind has for a long time been fascinated with their relationship to non-living things, mostly human-like figures, such as dolls. The Ningyo (人形, the Japanese term for doll) has a long history of usage, and has deep religious and animistic significance in the Japanese context—there are records of sexual use as early as the 18th century. With this context in mind, this paper focuses on three Japanese examples, aiming to shine a light on beyond-human relationships, which include a Japanese man’s marriage to a digital character, sex dolls, and communicative robots, from both a sexual and emotional perspective. In a new horizon of sexual and romantic possibilities, how will humans respond, and what can emerge from these interactions?
The complexity of young people's strategic negotiation of sexual agency constitutes a challenge for professionals working in the area of sexuality education. This paper explores how comprehensive ...sexuality education can support young people to develop sexual agency in all its forms: embodied, bonded, narrative and moral. A first step is to base sexuality education on the recognition of the connectedness of young people to different people and to different sexual cultures. This implies that comprehensive sexuality education should provide the tools that can help young people in the process of taking up a position, forming an identity and embodying a sexual self within their own social and cultural context. Moreover, comprehensive sexuality education should not only be aimed at empowering individuals, but should also address different sexual cultures, gender norms and other social norms, to stimulate critical consciousness and collective agency, and thereby create an environment that enables and supports young people's agency and diminishes inequality and restrictive norms.
At the center of psychology of sexuality research problematics of the first decades of the twenty first century was the influence of information technologies and virtualization of culture on the ...weakening of restraint in sexual behavior. Promiscuous sexual behavior is associated with the demise of traditional family structures and marriage institutions, resuling in increasing health risk on the national scale. The risk group that calls for special attention is young people who are most actively using new technologies and at the same time experiencing a lack of skills in the area of emotional and behavior regulation. Researches in this area try to identify factors behind youth promiscuity: a link between such behavior and increased environmental stresses and unsafe parenting styles have been established. Studies in recent years have, for the first time, revealed a link between the unrestricted use of communication technologies and the choice of promiscuous sexual behavior among young people. It was also established that such sexual behavior was linked to distress, increased risks of sexual harassment and harm to physical health in this age group. The data obtained in these recent studies indicate the presence of a complex problem associated with the psychosexual development of young people, set the task of possible ways to regulate as well as foster self- regulation of sexual behavior adolescence.
В центре актуальной научной проблематики психологии сексуальности первых десятилетий XXI в. был процесс влияния информатизации и виртуализации культуры на падение границ в сексуальном поведении. Беспорядочное сексуальное поведение связано с разрушением институтов семьи и брака, падением здоровья нации в масштабах популяции. Группой риска, требующей особенного внимания, является молодежь, наиболее активно использующая новые технологии и при этом испытывающая дефицит навыков эмоциональной регуляции и регуляции поведения. Идет поиск факторов выбора промискуитета: установлены связи такого поведения с повышенными средовыми нагрузками в период взросления и небезопасными стилями родительского воспитания. Исследования последних лет впервые выявили связь между неограниченным использованием средств связи и коммуникации и выбором беспорядочного сексуального поведения у молодежи. Установлена связь такого сексуального поведения с эмоциональным неблагополучием, повышенными рисками сексуального преследования и вреда для физического здоровья в этой возрастной группе. Полученные в исследованиях данные свидетельствуют о наличии комплексной проблемы, связанной с психосексуальным развитием молодежи, и ставят задачи поиска путей регуляции и необходимости формирования саморегуляции сексуального поведения у молодежи.
A substantial number of studies have been conducted on sexuality education in Nigeria. These provide evidence of the positive impact of sexuality education on the psychosocial well-being of children ...and youth and the value of sexuality education for the sexual health of young people. Yet another research has investigated the views of parents on the school-based sexuality education of children and the different models and approaches employed. All of these studies implicitly reflect an issue that has not yet been sufficiently discussed. Nigeria is a uniquely pluralised country, with a multitude of cultures and sexual cultures. The implications of this diversity for policy and practice in sexuality education and for how sexuality education has (or has not) responded to this heterogeneity are rarely considered. This article addresses this gap by seeking to conceptualise how sexuality education might proactively address the cultural diversity of Nigeria. It begins by sketching out key features of this diversity in Nigeria and highlights the need for a culturally sensitive approach. Thereafter, there is a critical engagement with three possible approaches that sexuality education might take. Highlighting the weaknesses of monocultural, multicultural and transcultural approaches, this article argues for an open-cultural stance as the best means of fostering culturally sensitive sexuality education.
