In this paper, Harel and Sowder's proof schemes of taxonomy were applied for identifying eighth grade students' learning of proof and proofing. This study aimed to examine what kind of proof schemes ...are used in geometry and measurement learning areas and student's skills in giving proof and their opinions about proof. Qualitative methods were used. The first part consisted of 40 students', were selected by using convenient sampling, were administered the proof skills inventory. The second part consisted of semi-structured interviews with six students who were randomly selected through a convenient sampling. Proof skill inventory was administered to 40 students and semi-structured interviews with randomly selected 6 students were done. The results of the study indicated that eighth grade students had intermediate level proof skills. In-depth analysis of the students confirmed that the students who got high scores used the axiomatic proof schema, those who had a moderate score used basic proof examples, and those who had low scores used the authoritarian proof schemas.
The Covid-19 pandemic forced an immediate switch from the traditional form of education to a remote one, which caused various problems. Comparative studies conducted among students and academic ...teachers have shown the complexity of the situation and the ambiguity of assessments concerning the effectiveness of the solutions applied. This article presents an analysis of the results of a survey carried out in Q4 of 2021, using own questionnaire, among students from universities in Poland, Hungary and Greece, and a group of attendees of the Adult Education Centre in Finland (N = 769). The presented area of research embraces students’ experiences of distance learning during the first stage of the Covid-19 pandemic. Descriptive statistics and tests of the equality of means were used to analyse the students’ opinions in order to check for differences in assessments based on the selected metric characteristics of the respondents. Possible differentiation of opinions due to respondent characteristics such as gender or country of study was also searched for. The study results can be used to develop solutions which can be used to improve the quality of distance learning.
In this research, it was aimed to determine the effect of activities carried out in concept design course on course engagement, and to get the opinions of the students in order to make the course ...more effective and efficient. The case study design was used in the research. While determining the participant group of the study conducted with 14 students, convenient sampling method, which is one of the non-random sampling types was used. Implementation activities lasted eight weeks. In this process, students made hand drawings on paper with a pencil or brush, digital drawings with two-dimensional (2D) graphics programs, and three-dimensional (3D) projects with the Unity game engine. "Classroom Engagement Scales for University Students" and "Student Opinion Form for Concept Design Course Activities" were used as data collection tools. Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon (2-Related Sample) test and descriptively. As a result of the analyses, the concept design course activities significantly increased the course engagement of the students. Although the students generally expressed positive opinions about the course activities, they made some suggestions for increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of the course.
Most developing countries including Lesotho, faces a major challenge of creating jobs for their high education graduates. This matter hard presses policy makers to advocate for training which equips ...graduates to venture into self-employment for job creation. This study therefore intended to establish students' opinions regarding self-employment opportunities in agriculture. The key objectives were: to describe students' knowledge of potential selfemployment opportunities in agriculture; to assess students' willingness to engage in selfemployment in agriculture; to identify factors constraining graduates from venturing into selfemployment in agriculture. Sixty-six final year students in the faculty of agriculture were purposefully selected for the study. A structured questionnaire was used as a data collection instrument for this study and data were analysed descriptively using statistical indicators including percentages, mean and standard deviation. Findings revealed that Students perceived that agriculture has a potential of creating employment for huge number of people and they are willing to undergo agri-business after completion of their studies. It is therefore recommended that practical agribusiness training be included in undergraduate agriculture curriculum to entrench this skill. The government should support agricultural graduates by addressing all the identified constraints such as marketing, input supply, credit, training, extension services and poor storage facilities.
