The Lomatium grayi complex is morphologically diverse across it range. The type species of this complex, Lomatium grayi s.s., has been found to not be a host of the larvae of Papilio indra, while the ...other three morphotypes are larval-hosts. A fifteen character, morphometric analysis was conducted on 390 herbarium specimens from throughout the range of this species. PCA, MANOVA, CDA, and Tukey tests revealed that the majority of the characters in this dataset were significantly different between four regional morphotypes. As a result of the morphometric analysis, the morphotypes are herein proposed as four species. Two new species are proposed for populations of L. grayi in the Pacific Northwest. Lomatium papilioniferum is proposed for plants in California, western Idaho, northern Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. Lomatium klickitatense is proposed for populations of robust plants from western Klickitat County, Washington, and northern Hood River County, Oregon. Lomatium grayi var. depauperatum is elevated to a species. This leaves no infraspecific taxa within L. grayi s.s. A presence/absence phenetic analysis of combined essential oil data was inconclusive regarding the composition of L. grayi s.s., which was found to be more similar to Lomatium klickitatense and Lomatium depauperatum than other species of Lomatium. Taxonomic treatments for each of the four species in this complex are provided. A key to these species and the multiple species that have been commonly mistaken for L. grayi is also included.
El complejo Lomatium grayi es morfológicamente diverso en todo su rango. Styrax paulhousei, a new species of Styrax L. series Valvatae Perkins from northwestern Honduras, is described and illustrated. It is similar to S. ramirezii Greenm. but differs in having fewer ...secondary leaf veins and larger corollas. The species is endemic to the Sierra del Merendón in the Department of Cortés and is categorized as vulnerable as based on IUCN Red List criteria. The discovery of this species brings the number of Styrax species native in Honduras to six.
Se describe e ilustra Styrax paulhousei, especie nueva de Styrax L. series Valvatae Perkins, del noroeste de Honduras. Se parece a S. ramirezii Greenm., pero se diferencia de aquel por tener menos venas secundarias en la hoja y corolas más grandes. La especie es endémica de la Sierra del Merendón en el Departamento de Cortés y se clasifica como vulnerable según los criterios de la Lista Roja de la IUCN. El descubrimiento de esta especie eleva a seis el número de especies de Styrax nativas en Honduras.

We also discuss ...and clarify the recommended taxonomy for other taxa (not requiring nomenclatural acts) and present a point of view about the practical and philosophic basis for making taxonomic changes in an allegedly well-understood flora. The genus Stenanthium, distributed through much of eastern United States, has previously been circumscribed with four species. Herbarium and field research on Stenanthium densum and S. leimanthoides ...(Melanthiaceae) support the recognition of two new segregate species, S. macrum and S. tennesseense. Data are presented on morphology, phenology, habitat, and distribution of each of these four species. Selected specimen records, distribution maps, field photographs, and a key to these four species are provided. After a careful range-wide study of specimens and a review of the taxonomic literature, we have determined that Dichanthelium hírstii (Swallen) Kartesz is taxonomically valid at the rank of species, ...and is a distinctive member of this complex genus. It is also one of the rarest plants in eastern North America. The specific epithet of Bartram's Ixia has usually been spelled as coelestina, which is incorrect and contrary to the ...International Code of Nomenclature for Algae, Fungi, and Plants. In the protologue, Bartram originally spelled it as caelestina, which is an acceptable Latin form that ought to be adopted. The ae variant has been utilized and accepted for names of several other taxa since Bartram. The proper spelling of the basionym of Bartram's Ixia is Ixia caelestina. Para una comunicación optima, cada nombre taxonómico idealmente tiene una ortografía propia.
