There has been a noticeable shift in how young readers approach reading where digital literacy communities serve as much purpose as traditional literacy communities like an ELA classroom. This ...article offers an introduction to TikTok and BookTok as well as several methods of integrating TikTok into classrooms. As the sub‐community for book lovers and readers, BookTok is connected to a lineage of literacy practices. Despite the newness of TikTok, these democratized spaces provide teen readers with agency, community, and digital literacies for their voices, ideas, and creativity to take shape. By including or acknowledging BookTok literacy practices in ELA classrooms, teachers have the potential to hinge on digital literacies that are ultimately shaping students and their cultural understandings.
In the context of the Patient-Centred Care paradigm (Epstein et al., 2005; Suojanen et al., 2012) and the shift toward the psychobiological model (Dean & Street, 2015; Muñoz & García-Izquierdo, ...2020), there is a growing demand for the patient to be an active agent in the management of their health. Clinical communication should be conveyed accurately and empathetically (Bellés Fortuño & García-Izquierdo, forthcoming), especially in complex legal genres such as the Informed Consent (IC). The research carried out by the Gentt research group up-to-date has revealed that there is no specific monitoring with the use of IC protocols in clinical practice. In this paper, we present the results of a qualitative pilot study with a group of practitioners from the Valencian Community (Spain). A focus group was conducted where the articulation of communication with patients was analyzed. The study tries to define the practical insights of using the IC to draw conclusions that can improve clinical communication. Results show that MPs generally consider that the IC process needs improvement, especially when considering closeness with patients to enhance communication.

O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar a ampliação do conceito de sequência didática, considerando contribuições da engenharia didática e a relação entre essa ferramenta e o triângulo didático, em ...propostas de ensino de gêneros orais e escritos em língua portuguesa, como primeira língua. Para isso, nos baseamos nas contribuições teóricas da didática das línguas e da engenharia didática. Os textos acadêmicos selecionados para análise apresentam resultados de pesquisas sobre produção de gêneros textuais orais e escritos, seguindo sequência didática. Os resultados demonstram o conceito de sequência didática, inicialmente, como ferramenta utilizada para desenvolver capacidades de linguagem dos aprendizes, com vistas à produção de gêneros orais e escritos. E sua relação com o triângulo didático se destacava em estudos voltados para o vértice “aluno”, enfatizando a relação aluno-saberes. Posteriormente, com influência da engenharia didática, o conceito de sequência didática se amplia e sua organização modular inicial se complexifica, mais atividades relativas à produção textual são realizadas, criando-se, assim, o dispositivo itinerário de aprendizagem. Relacionando-o ao triângulo didático, vemos que esse dispositivo é utilizado em estudos voltados para os vértices “professor” e “aluno”, enfatizando as relações professor-saberes e aluno-saberes. O itinerário é uma ampliação da sequência didática, sem a ela se contrapor.

This article aims to provide the reader with a brief introduction to Mário Filho’s O negro no futebol brasileiro (The Black Man in Brazilian Soccer). While emphasizing the importance of this classic ...book, I will discuss a few of its central ideas, the context in which these ideas were produced, and how they came to shape the perception of sports and race in Brazil. Furthermore, in the last sections of this article, I will examine how issues of genre classification regarding Mário Filho’s book have affected the way it has been read and interpreted over the years.
In this column, I review the book, “Nerds, Goths, Geeks, and Freaks: Outsiders in Chicanx and Latinx Young Adult Literature,” edited by Trevor Boffone and Cristina Herrera. The essays in this ...collection examine and interrogate the many ways to be, perform, and present as Chicanx and Latinx youths, both historically and in contemporary society. I offer suggestions for how teachers and teacher educators may use this book as a resource to engage in critical dialogue and develop curriculum that center Chicanx and Latinx voices.

In this review of WE HEREBY REFUSE: Japanese American Resistance to Wartime Incarceration, by Frank Abe and Tamiko Nimura, the author describes how this dynamic graphic novel provides multiple ...avenues for literacy educators to encourage young adults from diverse backgrounds to engage in their own forms of criticality (Mohammed, 2019) to analyze the causes and consequences of racial injustice over time. The descendants of incarcerated Japanese Americans, Abe and Nimura provide authentic reenactments of the World War II era through the narrative experiences of three Japanese American resisters, Hajime Jim Akutsu, Hiroshi Kashiwagi, and Mitsuye Endo. Sample pedagogical strategies connected to the text are offered for equity‐conscious literacy educators who seek to inspire their diverse learners to apply skills in criticality to directly challenge the status quo, and also, to comparatively situate how racialized violence against Asian Americans has evolved from the 1940s to the present.
The present work is partial results of a master’s research, which aimed to investigate what contributions are perceived by future chemistry teachers from the use of different textual genres during a ...formative process. The section gathers data consisting of observations of weekly meetings, semi-annual reports and semi-structured interviews with the scholarship holders of the Chemistry subproject of the Institutional Program of Teaching Initiation Scholarship (PIBID) of a federal institution of higher education in the state of Paraná. The methodology of analysis was elements of Content Analysis, and the categories were defined, a priori, through the theoretical references around textual genres. The results revealed that the use of different teaching materials allowed undergraduates to improve their reading and writing skills, signaling the importance of these tools in teacher education. Among these findings, it can be highlighted: the expansion of vocabulary, the improvement in interpretation, the synthesis of texts, as well as the incentive to practice reading.
O presente trabalho trata-se de resultados parciais de uma pesquisa de mestrado, a qual teve por objetivo investigar que contribuições são percebidas por futuros professores de Química a partir da utilização de diferentes gêneros textuais durante um processo formativo. O recorte reúne dados constituídos por meio de observações das reuniões semanais, relatórios semestrais e de entrevistas semiestruturadas com os bolsistas do subprojeto de Química do Programa Institucional de Bolsa de Iniciação à Docência (PIBID) de uma instituição federal de ensino superior do estado do Paraná. Utilizou-se como metodologia de análise elementos da Análise de Conteúdo, sendo as categorias definidas, a priori, mediante os referenciais teóricos em torno dos gêneros textuais. Os resultados revelaram que a utilização de diferentes materiais didáticos permitiu aos licenciandos aperfeiçoarem suas habilidades de leitura e escrita, sinalizando a importância dessas ferramentas na formação de professores. Entre estas constatações, pode-se ressaltar: a ampliação de vocabulário, o aperfeiçoamento na interpretação, a síntese de textos, bem como o incentivo à prática de leitura.
El presente trabajo es el resultado parcial de una investigación de maestría, que tuvo como objetivo investigar qué contribuciones son percibidas por los futuros profesores de química a partir del uso de diferentes géneros textuales durante un proceso formativo. La sección reúne datos consistentes en observaciones de reuniones semanales, informes semestrales y entrevistas semiestructuradas con los becarios del subproyecto Química del Programa Institucional de Becas de Iniciación Docente (PIBID) de una institución federal de educación superior en el estado de Paraná. La metodología de análisis fue elementos de Análisis de Contenido, y las categorías fueron definidas, a priori, a través de las referencias teóricas en torno a géneros textuales. Los resultados revelaron que el uso de diferentes materiales didácticos permitió a los estudiantes de pregrado mejorar sus habilidades de lectura y escritura, señalando la importancia de estas herramientas en la formación docente. Entre estos hallazgos, se pueden destacar: la expansión del vocabulario, la mejora en la interpretación, la síntesis de textos, así como el incentivo para practicar la lectura.
Tourism is one of the most important specialized domains in Spain. For this reason, many linguistic studies related to tourism texts have been carried out in the last few years. In this work, we ...focus on three of the most frequent and difficult textual genres written in Spanish in this domain: the informative article, the travel blog post, and the rules and regulations (for tourist accommodation facilities). The goals of this research are two: a) to carry out a linguistic analysis of the three aforementioned genres from the tourism domain on the textual, lexico-grammatical and discourse levels to gain a comprehensive understanding of the features of these text types, and b) to compare these genres in order to identify statistically significant differences among them and show that some specific linguistic features are prototypical of each one. To achieve these goals, we compiled a corpus in Spanish comprised of texts corresponding to the analysed genres. Then, we analysed linguistic features from both a quantitative and qualitative point of view. Finally, we carried out a comparative analysis using statistical techniques that shed light on significant differences between the genres.
