Objectives. The study purpose was to evaluate the effectiveness of an experimental program of training means aimed at stimulating reactions of aerobic energy supply of athletes who are part of ...Ukraine national rugby union team.
Material and methods. The athletes of the Ukrainian national rugby union team were divided into two homogeneous groups (experimental and control) consisting of 15 individuals. The experimental group underwent a specialized program aimed at developing aerobic energy supply, whereas the control group followed a standard training program. The object of study focused on the training process of Ukraine national rugby union team.
Results. The results of testing rugby players in the experimental group demonstrated reliable changes in reactions of aerobic energy supply under the influence of a program of special training sessions. The most significant alterations were noted in the indicators of kinetics and stability of reactions. The indicators of O2 consumption and pulmonary ventilation in the intensity zone of anaerobic metabolism threshold increased significantly. There was a tendency to increase indicators characterizing the power of the respiratory response (max VE), in particular under conditions of growing fatigue (% excess VE). However, there were no significant changes in indicators of aerobic capacities components in the athletes’ control group.
Conclusions. We believe that the mentioned indicators mostly reflect specialized manifestations of rugby players’ aerobic capacities and impact the increase of athletes’ special functional capabilities. This has been confirmed by the results of the analysis of urgent adaptive responses registered in model conditions of competition activity. As a result of the implementation of the specified experimental programme during the preparation process, the Ukrainian national team achieved 2nd place at the European Rugby Union Championship in the Trophy division of the 2022-2023 season.
Several published studies have described the success and satisfaction of residents enrolled in human radiology training programs, however comparable studies for veterinary radiology residents are ...currently lacking. The purpose of this descriptive, survey study was to evaluate resident perceptions of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (ECVDI) residency training programs. A web-based survey was sent to all listed 114 ECVDI residents and received a 57.0% response (65/114). Of these, 88% of respondents enjoyed their training and 73.5% of finishing respondents agreed they felt ready to work as a veterinary radiologist. First-time pass rates for the theoretical and practical components of the board certifying examinations were >80%. Regarding research and exam preparation, 41.5% and 49.2% of respondents, respectively, did not feel they received appropriate guidance. Eleven percent of respondents felt a lack of mentoring and 7.7% reported not receiving annual appraisals. Findings from this study can be used as background for future studies on perceptions of ECVDI residents and ECVDI residency program directors and for future policy decisions regarding ECVDI residency training programs.

In this cross-sectional analysis, websites of ACGME-accredited Otolaryngology residency programs were analyzed for information on program size, rank, age, and geographic region as obtained through the Doximity platform in 2023. Additional parameters were obtained for programs listing global surgery opportunities such as funding, faculty oversight, location/region, focus, and relationship to the community served. Data were tabulated and analyzed in Microsoft Excel and Stata.
Of the 131 ACGME-accredited Otolaryngology residency programs, 26 (20%) of programs advertised a global surgery opportunity. Nine (35%) of these promoted funding, 15 (58%) offered a clinical focus, one (4%) offered a research focus, and 10 (38%) offered a combined approach. The Midwest region had the most programs with global surgery opportunities (n = 8, 31%). Less than half (42%) of programs had an established partnership with local partners within low and middle-income countries (LMICs). When comparing programs, the average Doximity rank, average program age, and average program size of programs that offered global surgery opportunities was significantly higher than those that did not (37.2 vs. 71.5, 54 vs. 41, 19.5 vs. 13.7; all p < 0.05).
Approximately one-fifth of Otolaryngology training programs have a global surgery opportunity. Programs that offer these opportunities had a higher Doximity ranking, older program age, and a larger trainee cohort. These results highlight potential areas for expanding global surgery opportunities in academic institutions.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Competitive martial arts athletes cannot achieve good results based only on a specific competitive skill in today's intense competition. A specific training program that ...emphasizes the physical fitness required by the characteristics of the sport is necessary. Objective: Study the martial arts training index system to improve athletes’ physical fitness. Methods: The author adopts the research methods such as the literature data method, questionnaire survey method, and mathematical statistics method. The composition of the special indicators related to physical training for martial arts athletes is comprehensively discussed. results: Through interviews and investigations, the contribution rate of morphological indicators proved to be higher, accounting for 37.61% of the total contribution. Considering the index with the highest load, 29 special physical training indicators were determined for martial arts athletes. Conclusion: Martial arts athletes show a solid basis in training regarding the quality of special movements and sports performance. These data provide an important reference for scientific and dedicated martial arts training. Level of evidence II; Therapeutic studies - investigation of treatment outcomes.
RESUMEN Introducción: Las actividades de artes marciales de competición de los atletas no pueden lograr buenos resultados en las intensas disputas actuales basándose únicamente en una habilidad competitiva específica. Es necesario un programa de entrenamiento específico que haga hincapié en la aptitud física requerida por las características del deporte. Objetivo: Estudiar el sistema de índices de entrenamiento de artes marciales para mejorar la aptitud física de los deportistas. Métodos: El autor adopta los métodos de investigación como el método de datos bibliográficos, el método de encuesta por cuestionario y el método de estadística matemática. La composición de los indicadores especiales relacionados con el de la formación física de los atletas de artes marciales se discute exhaustivamente. Resultados: A través de las entrevistas y las investigaciones, la tasa de contribución de los indicadores morfológicos resultó ser mayor, representando el 37,61% de toda la contribución total. Teniendo en cuenta el índice con mayor carga, se determinaron 29 indicadores especiales de entrenamiento físico para los atletas de artes marciales. Conclusión: Los atletas de artes marciales demuestran una sólida base en el entrenamiento cuanto la calidad de los movimientos especiales y en el rendimiento deportivo. Estos datos proporcionan una importante referencia para el entrenamiento científico y dedicado de las artes marciales. Métodos: O autor adota os métodos de pesquisa como o método de dados da literatura, método de levantamento de questionários e método de estatística matemática. A composição dos indicadores especiais relacionados ao de treinamento físico para atletas de artes marciais é discutida de forma abrangente. Resultados: Através de entrevistas e investigações, a taxa de contribuição dos indicadores morfológicos mostrou-se superior, representando 37,61% de toda a contribuição total. Considerando o índice com a maior carga, foram determinados 29 indicadores especiais de treinamento físico para os atletas de artes marciais. Conclusão: Os atletas de artes marciais demonstram uma base sólida no treinamento quanto a qualidade de movimentos especiais e no desempenho esportivo. Objective
To develop and evaluate a training program for diagnosing placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) disorder in obstetrics/gynecology and radiology residents.
Methods
This single‐center prospective ...study was based on 177 ultrasound images of pathologically confirmed PAS extracted from 534 cases of placenta previa suspicious for PAS. First‐ to third‐year residents were evaluated before training to assess experience and ability to diagnose PAS. They attended a principal lecture followed by weekly self‐study exercises over 5 weeks. Post‐course tests evaluated the efficacy of the training program for improving diagnosis of PAS after the program.
Results
Twenty‐three (38.3%) obstetrics/gynecology and 37 (61.7%) radiology residents were trained. Before the training program, 98.3% reported minimal experience and 100% low confidence to correctly diagnose PAS. During the program, the overall accuracy of all participants in diagnosing PAS increased from 71.3% before to 95.2% after training (P < 0.001). Regression analyses showed that ability to diagnose PAS increased 2.52‐fold (P < 0.001) following the program. The retention of knowledge at 1, 3, and 6 months posttest was 84.7%, 87.5%, and 87.7%, respectively.
Conclusion
An antenatal diagnosis of PAS training program can be effective as a residency training program, considering the globally rising cesarean delivery rates.

In the context of Canadian medical education, Distributed Medical Education (DME) plays a crucial role in addressing healthcare disparities, particularly in rural areas. This study focuses on the ...Department of Psychiatry at Dalhousie University, analyzing psychiatrists’ engagement and willingness to participate in research at DME sites in Nova Scotia (NS) and New Brunswick (NB). The cross-sectional study, encompassing data from an environmental scan, surveyed 60 psychiatrists involved in medical education across seven health zones. Results revealed significant associations between gender, type of graduates, and specialist training. A majority of psychiatrists (68.3%) do not currently engage in mental health or translational research, citing barriers such as a lack of protected time and financial incentives. Notably, participants expressed interest in future research areas, including health services/quality improvement and addiction research. Geriatric psychiatry, predominantly female-dominated, lacked current research activities. The study emphasizes the need to address barriers and promote motivators, both intrinsic and extrinsic, to enhance psychiatrists’ research engagement. This strategic approach is essential for fostering active participation in research, thereby contributing to the expansion of DME sites in Atlantic Canada and beyond.
Abstract Background: Mechanical engineering students spend several hours in primitive workshops and laboratories for training as part of their academic curriculum; they are exposed to various types ...of hazards such as machines, flammable materials, and other dangers. These machines are one of the causes of amputation, crushing, and broken bones among these students. This study aims to explore how training in first aid (FA) and basic life support (BLS) helps mechanical engineering students at Sudan University of Sciences and Technology manage risks in such situations. Methods: The current study had a quasi-experimental design, and 100 students were chosen through stratified systematic random sampling. Data were gathered via questionnaire and observational checklist, whose content validity and reliability were confirmed (r = 0.87 and r = 0.82, respectively). Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0 for descriptive and inferential statistics. The program was delivered through a series of 13 lectures conducted over a total of 65 hr. Results: All tests had a maximum mean knowledge score of 50 points. At the pretest, students' overall knowledge of FA and BLS was low (13.82), however, it improved to 49.87 and 48.77 at posttest one and posttest two, respectively, after the intervention. Statistically significant differences were seen between pre- and posttest one (P = 0.000) and between pre- and post-late (P = 0.000). In the pretest, the total proportion of the students' practices related to FA and BLS was low (12.87%). However, when the program was implemented, the total percentage of practices increased in posttest one (95.65%) and posttest two (95.21%). This indicates the effectiveness of training programs. Conclusion: Students lacked knowledge and practice in FA and BLS before the intervention. The training helped enhance their skills. FA and BLS programs should be included in university curricula to help students manage risks in workshops and laboratories.

The recent and large number of Industry 4.0 (I4.0) publications, along with various levels of maturity in practical implementations, make it prone to myths. The objective of this paper is two-fold. ...First, we aimed at identifying the myths and facts related to I4.0 implementation. Second, we examined their pervasiveness between organisations with different I4.0 adoption levels. For that, we conducted a multi-step approach in which semi-structured interviews with twelve experts allowed us to raise these myths and facts. Then, data collected through a survey with 115 practitioners enabled the assessment of their pervasiveness. Ten myths and ten facts of I4.0 were consolidated and categorised according to the five attributes of the Diffusion of Innovation Theory (relative advantage, complexity, compatibility, trialability, and observability). Regarding their pervasiveness, we identified that, while the myths appear to be more prominent from the late adopters' perspective (less mature), the facts are more significantly perceived by the early adopters (more mature) of I4.0. This study helps practitioners to better comprehend the intricacies of I4.0, demystifying false ideas or assumptions and reinforcing real facts about its implementation. As many organisations still struggle to grasp the fundamentals of I4.0, our research provides conceptual clarity, setting expectations and mitigating some potential barriers to the digital transformation. Our findings might have multiple uses such as the design of more realistic I4.0 implementation plans that account for the myths as well as for the design of training programs that might dispel the myths before they spread across the industries.
