•A multi-objective topology optimization method is proposed to design multiphysics cloak.•Based on topological functional cells, the cloak has stronger local regulatory ability.•The method is robust ...and general for arbitrary-shape cloak under different working situations.•A well-designed experiment was carried out to validate the multiphysics cloaking effects.
Transformation theory has enabled the booming development of metamaterials which have offered powerful capability to control different physical fields, and the remaining challenges lie in the robust design of extremely anisotropic material parameters. Such challenges surge for multiphysics metamaterials is more difficult though not impossible. Previous studies on multiphysics metamaterials have neither established a general framework nor tackled the limited shape adaptivity beyond the scattering cancellation technique. Here, those challenges are successfully addressed by the transformation multiphysics cloak (TMC), through which a general design framework is established under the discretion-and-assembly strategy with topology optimization. As proof-of-concept, we design an arbitrary-shape TMC to achieve the simultaneous cloaking of heat and electric current transiently and steadily, which is validated by both numerical simulations and experimental measurements. The proposed method may trigger unprecedented development of multiphysics metamaterials in other physical fields with integration of more functionalities, shape adaptivity, and application scenarios.
•The vibration fatigue behavior of DZ125L alloy under different stress levels were investigated.•A vibration fatigue life prediction model based on the phase transformation theory is developed.•The ...fatigue crack growth mechanism of DZ125L alloy under vibration load is proved by experiments and simulations.
Directionally solidified nickel base superalloy DZ125L is the main material that has been widely used to manufacture aviation gas turbine blades and hot-end structural parts. Aeroengine is under vibration load for a long time in the service process, which makes vibration fatigue become one of the main failure modes of aero-engine structures. In this study, vibration fatigue behavior and excitation frequency response curves of DZ125L alloy under different stress levels were investigated through vibration fatigue tests. The fatigue crack initiation and growth mechanism of DZ125L alloy under vibration load is studied based on the results of the vibration fatigue test and finite element simulation. A vibration fatigue life prediction model based on the phase transformation theory is developed. Each parameter has clear physical significance in the model. The comparison between the model prediction results and the test results shows that the theoretical prediction results have reasonable accuracy.
This open access book presents an alternative to capitalism and state socialism through the modelling of a post-market and post-state utopia based on an upscaling of the commons, feminist political ...economy and democratic and council-based planning approaches. It discusses the left’s need to explore non-capitalist modes of production, the inability of green or socialist market economies to produce real social and ecological change, and the need to look beyond traditional ideas of reform and revolution. The book discusses how a socio-economic organisation beyond money, wage labour, patriarchal division of work and centralised state planning may look like. It develops an approach to societal transformation based on seed forms of commons practices and social movements. This book will be relevant to activists, students and researchers interested in fundamental social change, political economy and feminist and Marxist economics. This is an open access book.
Transformation media provide a fundamental paradigm for field regulation, but their tricky anisotropy challenges fabrication. Though optical conformal mapping has been utilized to eliminate ...anisotropy, two key factors still hinder its development in thermotics, i.e., the distinct diffusion nature and inevitable interface mismatching. Here, we put forth the concept of diffusive pseudo-conformal mapping, overcoming the inherent difference between diffusion and waves and achieving perfect interface matching. The proposed mapping directly leads to heat guiding and expanding functions with anisotropy-free transformation thermal media, whose feasibility is confirmed by experiments or simulations. Besides diverse applications, we provide a unified perspective for two distinct types of prevailing bilayer cloaks by uncovering their profound ties with pseudo-conformal mapping. These results greatly simplify the preparation of transformation thermotics and have implications for regulating other diffusion and wave phenomena.
•Diffusive pseudo-conformal mappings are proposed to design thermal metamaterials.•We realize guiding, expanding and cloaking of heat flux by only isotropic materials.•Interface matching is considered to achieve precise functional design.

What if there is a way to transform society and create a more caring, equitable, and connected world? The Power of Partnership (POP) podcast brings you the people who are working to do just that: ...people who are helping to build a world that values caring, nature, and shared prosperity. They are applying the Partnership ethos, the ground-breaking alternative to Domination systems that are at the root of our most pressing challenges. In this article, POP podcast producer and host Cherri Jacobs Pruitt provides an overview of how the podcast started and what listeners can expect from each episode.
Background: Emerging needs of the 21st century, such as workforce shortages, increasing supply costs, and rising complexity related to chronic disease management, equitable care, and declining health ...outcomes have made it imperative for the health-care industry to form new business, operational, and care models. Many nurses struggle to see themselves as innovators or to find their professional skill sets being used to change the current health-care paradigm. The nursing profession can address the complexity within health care through innovative leadership across the continuum of care. Method: The Planting Seeds of Innovation (PSI) model was created in 2015, by a Doctor of Nursing Practice student working in partnership with a School of Nursing and an academic health center located in the United States. The goal of the PSI model was to empower nurses to lead, develop, adopt innovation, and design principles as a part of their daily practice. A day-long PSI workshop introduced innovation and design principles to practicing hospital nurses with the intent of helping them to learn how to embed innovation into their practice so they can lead new solutions for health care. Evaluation of the PSI event used a mix of qualitative and quantitative methods. In-depth interviews were conducted before and after the event to determine baseline knowledge of innovation and the impact of the PSI event on their awareness and application of innovation principles. Before the PSI event, interview questions invited all participants to share their perceptions, experiences, learning needs, and expectations. After the event participants were asked to assess creativity, design, and innovation at the personal, team, leadership, and organizational levels. They were also asked to evaluate their organization’s culture and observed partnership behaviors. Results: Participants reported feeling empowered when they were given the skills necessary to create intrapreneurial and entrepreneurial solutions. The design of the PSI event which emphasized partnership-based health care and the importance of interdisciplinary teamwork improved participant learning. The event shifted how participants felt about their personal ability to lead change and impact the future of professional nursing practice. Discussion: At every level, health care needs to actualize the potential and ingenuity of every team member. Innovation and interprofessional partnerships are necessary components of nursing education and practice in this new era. Nurses are in an ideal position to design and innovate models of care to transform health care.

The fundamental theoretical framework of the Multisphere Tectonics of the Earth System is as follows: (1) It intends to extend the geotectonic studies from the crustal and lithospheric tectonics to ...the multisphere tectonics of the Earth system as a whole. (2) The global dynamics driven by both the Earth system and the cosmic celestial system: solar energy, multispheric interactions of the Earth system and the combined effects of the motions of celestial bodies in the cosmos system are the driving forces of various geological processes. (3) The Continent‐Ocean transformation theory: the continent and ocean are two opposite yet unified geological units, which can be transformed into each other; neither continent nor ocean will survive forever; there is no one‐way development of continental accretion or ocean extinction; the simple theory of one‐way continental accretion is regarded as invalid. (4) The continental crust and mantle are characterized by multiple layers, with different layers liable to slide along the interfaces between them, but corroboration is needed that continents move as a whole or even drift freely. (5) The cyclic evolution theory: the development of Earth's tectonics is not a uniform change, but a spiral forward evolution, characterized by a combination of non‐uniform, non‐linear, gradual and catastrophic changes; different evolutionary stages (tectonic cycles) of Earth have distinctive global tectonic patterns and characteristics, one tectonic model should not be applied to different tectonic cycles or evolutionary stages. (6) The structure and evolution of Earth are asymmetric and heterogeneous, thus one tectonic model cannot be applied to different areas of the world. (7) The polycyclic evolution of the continental crust: the continental crust is formed by polycyclic tectonics and magmatism, rather than simply lateral or vertical accretion. (8) The role of deep faults: the deep fault zones cutting through different layers of the crust and mantle usually play important roles in tectonic evolution. For example, the present‐day mid‐ocean ridge fault zones, transform fault zones and Benioff zones outline the global tectonic framework. Different tectonic cycles and stages of Earth's evolution must have their own distinctive deep fault systems which control the global tectonic framework and evolutionary processes during different tectonic cycles and stages. Starting from the two mantle superplumes Jason (Pacific) and Tuzo (Africa), the study of the evolutionary process of the composition and structure of the crust and mantle during the great transformation and reorganization of the Meso‐Cenozoic tectonic framework in China and the other regions of Asia is a good demonstration of theory of Multisphere Tectonics of the Earth System.
Blockchain technology is considered to be a disruptive technology that has real potential for change after steam engines, electricity, and the Internet. However, in terms of power generation, the ...current level of hydropower development in my country is only 39%. Compared with developed countries, there is still a big gap and a high development space. This article proposes a research on the application of blockchain technology in smart sustainable energy business models, studies the conversion path of sustainable energy systems, introduces integrated energy service blockchain technology, and builds a sustainable energy transition model. The selection of practical dimensions requires both Quantitative indicators also require cultural and behavioral qualitative indicators; finally, through the analysis of social development trends and government policies, the external variable landscape signals are parameterized. Sustainable energy rather than fossil energy is the energy of the future. Weak landscape signals have significantly weakened the development of the sustainable energy niche: the proportion of coal consumption has declined slowly. Although it has transformed from a system to a niche, it has always been higher than that of other energy types. Only with long-term landscape pressure, positive changes to sustainable energy technologies and infrastructure, and continuous changes in consumer preferences, can sustainable energy ultimately dominate.
