According to transhumanism it is necessary to modify human nature through biotechnology, to eliminate disease, aging and other conditions of hu-man finiteness, all that through the improvement of ...physical and mental capabilities. This article discusses the proposals of super intelligence, super wel-fare and super longevity proposed by transhumanism, as well as the insufficiency of the concept of physical enhancement versus the human perfecting, as a start-ing point to solve, among other anthropological challenges approach posed by transhumanism, if human nature can be modified through biotechnology.
El transhumanismo considera necesaria la modificación de la natura-leza humana mediante la biotecnología, mediante la eliminación de la enfermedad, el envejecimiento y otras condiciones propias de la finitud humana, a través de la mejora de las capacidades físicas y mentales. En este artículo se dis-cuten las propuestas de super inteligencia, super bienestar y super longevidad buscadas por el transhumanismo, así como la insuficiencia de la noción de mejora física frente a la de perfeccionamiento o crecimiento humano, como punto de partida para resolver, entre otros desafíos antropológicos que plantea el trans-humanismo, si es modificable la naturaleza humana mediante la biotecnología.
The paper introduces the transhumanism and cosmic communism of Mao Zedong and discusses its relation to a Marxian conception of human nature and analogous Soviet visions. Having shown that the ...two-sided understanding of human nature in Marx opened doors for its transhumanist interpretations, the article identifies instances of the latter in the ideal of the New Soviet Man, the views of Trotsky, and the communist (or at least Sovietized) cosmism of Tsiolkovsky and Bogdanov. In parallel to and prior to his contact with Marxism, Mao became occupied with the problems of immortality, alternative spaces, the destruction of the Earth, and the power of human will, and his early transhumanism only revived after 1949. It is shown that based on his revision of historical materialism and belief in the limitless potential of human powers, Mao envisaged that technological and cultural revolutions would still and endlessly occur under communism(s), including their cosmic phases, and even after a global nuclear catastrophe. This would be, however, a future of “something more advanced” than humans, free from their current physical limitations.
Si bien existen algunos intentos de repensar el tema de la tecnología desde la filosofía de Søren Kierkegaard, no existe todavía un diálogo directo con la postura transhumanista. En este artículo ...proponemos un acercamiento inédito, entendido como una crítica, desde el pensamiento de Kierkegaard al transhumanismo y su concepto de singularity. Primero, analizamos el modo en el que los transhumanistas entienden el concepto de singularity y sus limitaciones; después, apoyándonos en la filosofía de Kierkegaard, defendemos que la única singularidad posible y real es la persona humana como relación primigenia, fuente de angustia y libertad, pecado y amor, espíritu. Defendemos también que esta relación no puede ser replicada por una creación artificial.

Abstract In this article, we draw on an interdisciplinary seminar at the University of Basel in the spring semester 2023. The seminar firstly discussed technical transhumanism between improving human ...lives through technological innovation and breathtaking advances in artificial intelligence (AI). Secondly, integrative approaches to health such as One Health have a transhumanist dimension, meaning that the interaction of human and animal health contributes to human health and development. As technological and biological dimensions of transhumanism raise philosophical, anthropological and ethical questions, we ask what is specifically human and what kind of future human-technology interactions is societally acceptable. With the rapid recent development of AI, questions arise about algorithms taking over human intellectual functions. Transhumanism can be described as a current of a posthumanist turn that generally asks where the limits of the human body and also of human existence lie. From an anthropological point of view a controversial discussion is held ‘beyond the human’ about blurring of the boundaries between humans, animals and nature. The One Health approach demands that animals should not suffer in place of humans and that the health of humans, animals, plants and the environment must be promoted simultaneously. This places the One Health approach in a tension and dilemma between conflicting ethical and purely human demands for the protection and welfare of animals, as well as the legitimate demands for animal food and sheer survival in many areas of the world. A biological transhumanism certainly has less of a claim to surpass specifically human performance and thus stands less or not at all in the more gnostic technological current of technical transhumanism, which replaces human labour and suddenly achieves the ability to turn against humans. One Health impact statement Integrative approaches to health such as One Health have a transhumanist dimension, meaning that the interaction of human and animal health contributes to human health and development. The One Health approach demands that animals should not suffer in place of humans and that the health of humans, animals, plants and the environment must be promoted simultaneously. This places the One Health approach in a tension and dilemma between conflicting ethical and purely human demands for the protection and welfare of animals, as well as the legitimate demands for animal food and sheer survival in many areas of the world. El artículo parte de la distinción entre diferentes formas de pensar lo posthumano. A partir de la pregunta sobre la posibilidad de una ética posthumana, que vaya más allá del principio precautorio, ...se defiende la siguiente tesis: el posthumanismo, en su interpretación transhumanista, es la postura más acorde a la ética normativa tal como la conocemos, si y solo si el enfoque consecuencialista que caracteriza a sus defensores es complementado con el deontológico. Para esto se asumen dos supuestos: la idea de una continuidad entre los humanos y los posthumanos y el derecho del humano a ejercer mejoramientos sobre sí mismo que lo lleven a un estado calificable como posthumano, siempre y cuando no atenten contra la dignidad humana.

Nos proponemos en este artículo analizar dos obras recientes que tienen como tema común la utopía de la inmortalidad alcanzada a través de los medios tecnólogicos, esto es, la mind uploading, la ...“subida”: el cuento del mexicano Alberto Chimal “La segunda Celeste”, incluido en Manos de lumbre (2018), y la novela escrita en forma de crónica Sinfín (2020) del argentino Martín Caparrós. Nuestro objetivo es demostrar que las dos obras tratan el tema de la “subida” como una utopía en el sentido dado a este término por Matthew Beaumont, es decir, una mirada sobre un presente historizado desde la perspectiva de un futuro fantástico, y reflejan más bien las contradicciones de la presente visión sobre lo humano que una cala real en un futuro implacablemente opaco. Al mismo tiempo, mostraremos que en las dos obras se transparenta la paradoja observada por Fredic Jameson respecto a la imposibilidad de distinguir entre la utopía y la distopía en el momento en que se trata de indagar el futuro. Por fin, intentaremos poner de relieve que, en los dos textos, la utópica “subida”, que es uno de los objetivos fundamentales de la agenda transhumanista, se contempla con el escepticismo derivado de una visión pesimista sobre un sujeto que accede a la tecnología sin ser capaz de superar sus debilidades humanas, por lo cual, fracasa en su intento de convertirse en “post-humano”.
Élie Metchnikoff, ganador del Premio Nobel de medicina en 1908 y sucesor de Pasteur, fue sin duda un hombre intelectualmente muy fértil. Sus investigaciones pioneras en una gran variedad de áreas ...científicas, como la gerontología, la tanatología y la inmunología modernas, constatan lo anterior. Pero ¿es posible considerarlo, además, como el primer transhumanista moderno? El objetivo de este artículo es estudiar la pertinencia de atribuirle tal título. Para ello analizaremos su vida y obra desde un punto de vista transhumanista. En un primer momento examinaremos cómo Metchnikoff concebía la naturaleza de nuestra especie; posteriormente, esbozaremos el modo en que podría presentarse su proyecto de mejoramiento humano; y, por último, expondremos su interesante concepción de la mortalidad humana. Existen dos alicientes para esta investigación: rescatar para los lectores hispanohablantes el pensamiento de Metchnikoff bajo esta novedosa perspectiva, y la necesidad de observar críticamente cualquier propuesta que aspire a superar los límites de la humanidad.
