We prove Fuglede’s conjecture in Qp which states that a Borel set of positive and finite Haar measure in Qp is a spectral set if and only if it tiles Qp by translations.
"Would there have been a Renaissance without translation?" Karen Newman and Jane Tylus ask in their Introduction to this wide-ranging group of essays on the uses of translation in an era formative ...for the modern age. The early modern period saw cross-cultural translation on a massive scale. Humanists negotiated status by means of their literary skills as translators of culturally prestigious Greek and Latin texts, as teachers of those same languages, and as purveyors of the new technologies for the dissemination of writing. Indeed, with the emergence of new vernaculars and new literatures came a sense of the necessary interactions of languages in a moment that can truly be defined as "after Babel."
As they take their starting point from a wide range of primary sources-the poems of Louise Labé, the first Catalan dictionary, early printed versions of the Ptolemy world map, the King James Bible, and Roger Williams'sKey to the Language of America-the contributors to this volume provide a sense of the political, religious, and cultural stakes for translators, their patrons, and their readers. They also vividly show how the very instabilities engendered by unprecedented linguistic and technological change resulted in a far more capacious understanding of translation than what we have today.

In my text I focus on the problem of translation as one of the postmemorial practices and as a form of resistance. My argument is that the translation (as a process and as a text) may be seen not ...only as an act of resistance against totalitarian regime and occupation but also as an act of multi-faceted "ratification" of the original text. "Lithuanians by the Laptev Sea" by Dalia Grinkevičiūtė was an act of resistance. Translations reinforced this aspect of the book, becoming acts of resistance themselves. Translated text impacts not only the receiving culture (in Poland it provides new context for similar Polish documents), but also the culture that the translated text originates from. Translation "ratifies" the subject of translated book, it's credibility, prestige and influence in original culture. S ometimes it may also lead to a new editorial and scientific approach in the original culture.
A tanulmány az anakronizmus és anatopizmus jelenségét vizsgálja az irodalmi fordításban. A strukturális anatopizmus a legtöbb esetben elkerülhetetlen, hiszen a művek által megteremtett narratív ...univerzum, sőt még a lírai művek beszédszituációi is tartalmaznak a kulturális kontextusra való utalásokat, és a célnyelv kulturális kontextusa szükségszerűen különbözik a forrásnyelvétől - hiszen enélkül nem is volna szükség fordításra. Az anakronizmus veszélyét az időbeli távolság is növeli: ezt az archaizálás ellensúlyozhatja, de a valódi korhűséget célzó fordítások igen ritkák. Bizonyos fordítók szándékosan is előállítanak anakronisztikus vagy anatopisztikus szöveghelyeket: ezek sajátos elidegenítő effektusként működnek. Az anakronizmus súlyossága nem lineárisan nő az időbeli távolsággal, hanem gyakran attól függ, hogy egy meghatározó kulturális változás előtti vagy utáni állapotra mutat-e az adott referencia. A tanulmány Rilke Archaischer Torso Apollos (Archaikus Apolló-torzó) című szonettjének és fordításainak példáján mutatja be ezt a jelenséget.
Based on the interactional translation model, this paper discusses the role of translator’s competence in the success of translation for business. Via complex analysis of translations of advertising ...texts as discourse acts that are pragmatically oriented and relatively uniform in their aims, the authors establish an extralingual criterion for measuring the quality of their translation – the ability to satisfy the same cognitive/communicative needs and exert the same influence as the source texts on the audience with the different cultural background. Arguing that translator’s /interpreter’s qualifications should include awareness of the target community’s ethnical and business culture coupled with the sense of responsibility for the results of translation as an intercultural discourse act, the authors formulate implications for the formation of strategic competence in teaching professional business translators.
