  • Bike sharing systems for reducing the number of cars in cities

    As we are aware, the concern for nature, the environment and ourselves is very important in today’s world. For this reason, we resort to various forms of a healthy lifestyle, whether that is a way of ... eating, recreation or means of transportation. When choosing the latter, more and more people are opting for an alternative to a car, such as car sharing, walking, using public transportation, or renting a bicycle from public bike sharing system. With this paper we wanted to introduce the concept, definitions, principles, and essence of bike sharing systems to nonconnoisseurs of this topic. For our research purposes we used various web databases’ search engines, where we searched for published articles with relevant contents. We had no difficulties in finding the right literature – we received thousands of results in online databases. For a more detailed review we only selected the articles we thought were the most relevant. In the results section, we have presented five researched points (two definitions and three principles), whereby we have made a comparison between them to find the differences and similarities, their advantages, and disadvantages.
