    Streptococcus agalactiae (group B streptococcus - GBS) is an important pathogen in adult population. Patients with known chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, liver diseases and malignant ... diseases are at highest risk of acquiring this infection. Primary bacteremia is the most frequent manifestation carrying relatively good prognosis. Infective endocarditis is the most severe manifestation with high mortality and serious cardiac and extracardiac complications. Skin and soft tissue infections are also frequent.Other infections (meningitis, osteomyelitis, endophthamitis) are lessfrequent in adult patients. Penicillin remains the antibiotic of choice for GBS infections.
