  • Wood warping measurement using laser-based equipment
    Čadež, Janez, 1968- ; Resnik, Jože, 1942-
Wood is an anisotropic and hygroscopic material, so that the dimensions of elements made of this material are, in the case of changes in humidity, apt to change. Due to the way in which wood grows, ... and the frequent faults which occur during this process, deformations occur, which, because of their complexity, are called warping. A new laser measurement techniques, which are used today in many different fields, can provides quick, accurate and computer-based measurements, which permit the use off different processing methods and different interpretations of the results obtained. In the research a laser measurments of warping were performed on glued test specimens made of two layers of spruce wood lamellas *Picea abies Karst.(, which were glued symmetrically using PVAc adhesive and were exposed to a standard climate, a humid climate and a dry climate before measurements. The research results showed that laser measurment equipment is a suitable tool for measuring the warping of solid wood and woodžbased materials and that other factors affected the warping of such test specimens, which can have a greater effect than that of juvenility.
