The use of modern computer aided tools used for the set-up of sheet metal forming technologies demands accurate and reliable input data. Mechanical properties, tribological conditions and forming ... limits are the most important data for precise technological predictions and failure evaluations in digital environment. The experimental tests (e.g. Marciniak or Nakazima test) of determining the forming limit diagram (FLD's) are difficult to perform when tinplate sheet metals with thickness below 0.25 mm are analysed. Special precautions for experimental determination of the forming limit diagram have to be performed in order to omit the undesired stress concentrations of the formed specimen. The paper presents preparations for a successful Marciniak test carried out in digital environment by the program ABAQUS in order to determine the adequate specimen geometries. A redesign of the workpiece was performed when the excessive thinning at the die radius was observed. Last butnot least, the numerically determined geometries were verified by the experiments and the forming limit curve for the analysed material TS-275 was determined.
