  • Polymeric membranes for the use in high pressure membrane reactors [Elektronski vir]
    Krmelj, Vlasta ...
The aim of our research work was to develop a membrane reactor using polysulphone ultrafiltration membranes, operating at high pressure up to 350 bar in SC-CO2 and propane. The stability of membranes ... was evaluated by exposing them to SC-CO2 and propane atmosphere at 35 oC and 300 bar. The properties of membranes treated with high pressure and the control membrane were determined with measurements of hydrodynamic resistance and "Mw cut off" value and comapred with a not high pressure treated control membrane. The results showed that there was no difference between the membranes exposed to high pressure and the control membrane. The micro-structure of the membranes was examined with electronic microscope. There were no changes in crosscuts which means that the structure of the membrane remained the same which is confirmed by their unchanged pysical properties. The membranes were also tested for pressure change stability. Fast and slow pressure changes were performed and it was found that the physical properties of the membranes did not change. The polymethylmethacrylate membranes were also investigated and itwas found that the properties changed significantly. Therefore it is evident that this type of membranes is not suitable for use in high pressure membrane reactors.
