  • The impact of innovation of manufacturing trade in OECD countries [Elektronski vir]
    Bojnec, Štefan ; Fertő, Imre
The paper investigates the impact of innovation on manufacturing trade using the gravity equation model. Innovation is positively associated with manufacturing trade for exporters, while results for ... importers are mixed. The sensitivity of the results is investigated, and the model is re-estimated estimating the effect of innovations on distance and the effects of innovations in association with level of economic development. Innovations in technologically advanced products cause to overcome the effects of the distance on manufacturing exports and strengthened import specialization. Innovation is found as the way for exports of manufacturing products from developing to developed OECD countries implying heterogeneity across sectors and countries. Gross domestic product and gross domestic product per capita positively effects manufacturing trade for exporters and importers. The distance cause negatively, while having a common border, common language, and regional free trade agreement membership causes positively manufacturing trade between the eighteen analyzed OECD countries.
