The implication and scope of the historical reassessment, or "Historikerstreit," of questions about National Socialism have yet to be determined, nor has the role of moral concepts and memory in assessing National Socialism. Two responses to early Nazism, written in the 1930s by Robert Musil and Emmanuel Levinas, are discussed in light of the recent criticisms.
