The iconography of the Century of Progress Fair could be a rich jumping-off point for a series of larger investigations into changing historical attitudes and ideologies about gender and technology, work, education, entertainment, or the changing global landscape, to name just a few. Since the first Crystal Palace exhibition in London in 1851, countries and corporations have used industrial goods to demonstrate national superiority and the relationship between progress and consumption.
