No reader, unaided by the biographical note, would guess that this is a book (published in Slovenia in 1987) by a poet in his midtwenties. Nor, without being told, would she be able to tell from the seamless language of Sonja Kravanja's translation of these poems that they were not originally composed in English. At the same time, the sensibility is clearly not that of a native speaker of English.
