The article analyzed the last sociological surveys on religious life in Europe. The attention on the large scale was given to the problems of the perceiving by the Europeans of their own religious identity, the significance of the faith in the life of the secular society and its citizens. The author concluded that the religious identity in the context of the migration, social and political crisis preserved its value in the social and political life. The identity becomes the important evidence of the societal attempts to find the answers on the challenges of the modernity
