On June 14, 2001, Senator Dianne Feinstein introduced the Privacy Act of 2001, S.1055. The bill attempts to limit the dissemination of information about consumers and protect consumers from crimes such as identity theft, fraud and, in some cases, stalking and other violent crimes.
