    Journal Article

Identifies and elaborates on the various historical incidents or circumstances which have instigated what can be termed contemporary Māori society and culture, primarily beginning with the Hui Taumata of 1984. Considers the revival of te reo Māori and the growth of the Kohanga Reo movement, Māori inroads into communications media such as radio and television, the emergence of political and societal movements and organisations, legislative milestones and treaty settlements, intellectual repositioning, and the emergence of kaupapa Māori over the past 25 years.
