Formal academic education has a significant impact on the quality professional work of jour- nalists, but not enough for gender-sensitive approach, the basic conclusion of the research. The importance of non-formal education is of great importance the last two decades when it comes to technological progress which is reflected most precisely in the media, through the process of digitizing and creating new distribution platforms of media content. The survey was conducted by the method of oral life stories (oral history), which is one of the possible ways of recording, analyz- ing and interpreting the experience of women as a testimony to the social circumstances in a given period of time. For sample consisted of eight journalists from media reporting in the lan- guages of different ethnic communities, different professional experience and social activism. The idea of this work was to demonstrate how the formal and informal education affects the formation of the professional identity of the journalist, the correlation of professional and gender identity, and how education can contribute to a more equal position of women in society.
