A report on the journey that the author took in 1934 from Beijing to Kashmir, India. The road lead through the Chinese province of Sinciang (these areas were then called Tataria or Chinese Turkmenistan). As Fleming notes in the introduction, this was by no means a scientific expedition, and the book he wrote does not bring anything new to the knowledge of these areas in geography, ethnology or meteorology. The reason that lead the reporter to this trip was the fact that for several years nobody made a similar trip (in 1931-34 the civil war was in Sinciang). The companion of Peter Fleming’s journey was a Swiss sportswoman, reporter and photographer - - Ella Maillart. The book contains numerous photographs and a map. Relacja z podróży, jaką autor – reporter „Times’a” odbył w 1934 z Pekinu do Kaszmiru w Indiach. Droga wiodła przez chińską prowincję Sinciang (tereny te zwano wówczas Tatarią lub chińskim Turkmenistanem). Jak zauważa Fleming we wstępie, nie była to w żadnym razie ekspedycja naukowa, a napisana przez niego książka nie wnosi do stanu wiedzy na temat tych obszarów nic nowego w zakresie geografii, etnologii czy meteorologii. Powodem, który skłonił reportera do tej wyprawy był fakt, że od kilku lat nikt nie odbył podobnej podróży (w latach 1931-34 trwała w Sinciang wojna domowa). Towarzyszką podróży Petera Fleminga była szwajcarska sportsmenka, reporterka i fotograficzka - - Ella Maillart. Książka zawiera liczne fotografie i mapę.
