Lorber, Mateja, 1972- ; Treven, Sonja ; Mumel, Damijan
Introduction: Employeesʹ commitment is a multidimensional construct and can be described as employees believing in the goals of the organization and being determined to stay in it. Some studies have ... shown that the level of education and leadership position affects employeesʹ commitment. The aim of the study was to found out if there are any differences according to the demographic data in commitment of employees in nursing. Methods: Employees in nursing of eight Slovenian public hospitals (medium enterprises) participated in the study. The questionnaire that was used included statements regarding the demographic data and employees commitment. The statistical analysis included Mann-Whitney test and ANOVA analysis. Results: There is no statistically significant difference (Z=-0.849; p=0.396) in the level of commitment between leaders and other employees in nursing. On the other hand there are statistically significant differences in the level of employeesʹ commitment in nursing according to age (F=1.973: p<0.001) and level of education (F=1.447; p=0.026). Discussion and Conclusion: Commitment of employees is important because it correlates with quality, performance of hospitals, and their competitiveness. Only committed leaders can care for commitment of other employees. According to the constantly changing health system, hospitals will have to recognize the importance of employeesʹ commitment. The management has to monitor the commitment of all employees once a year.
